In this article we study the properties, inference, and statistical applications to a parametric generalization of the truncation positive normal distribution, introducing a new parameter so as to increase the flexibility of the new model. For certain combinations of parameters, the model includes both symmetric and asymmetric shapes. We study the model’s basic properties, maximum likelihood estimators and Fisher information matrix. Finally, we apply it to two real data sets to show the model’s good performance compared to other models with positive support: the first, related to the height of the drum of the roller and the second, related to daily cholesterol consumption.

A new univariate extension of the Fréchet distribution is proposed and studied. Some of its fundamental statistical properties such as stochastic properties, ordinary and incomplete moments, moments generating functions, residual life and reversed residual life functions, order statistics, quantile spread ordering, Rényi, Shannon and q-entropies are derived. A simple type Copula based construction using Morgenstern family and via Clayton Copula is employed to derive many bivariate and multivariate extensions of the new model. We assessed the performance of the maximum likelihood estimators using a simulation study. The importance of the new model is shown by means of two applications to real data sets.

In this paper, a system of nonlinear equations for the maximum likelihood estimators as wel as the exact forms of the Fisher information matrix for Crovelli's bivariate gamma distribution and bivariate gamma beta  distribution of the second kind are determined. An application of the results to the rainfall data from the city of Passo Fundo are provided.

In this work, a new extension of the Inverse Rayleigh model is proposed and studied. We derive some of its fundamental properties. We assess the performance of the maximum likelihood estimators via a simulation study. The importance of the new model is shown via two applications to real data sets. The new model is better fit than other important competitive models based on two real data sets.

In item response theory (IRT) modeling, the Fisher information matrix is used for numerous inferential procedures such as estimating parameter standard errors, constructing test statistics, and facilitating test scoring. In principal, these procedures may be carried out using either the expected information or the observed information. However, in practice, the expected information is not typically used, as it often requires a large amount of computation. In the present research, two methods to approximate the expected information by Monte Carlo are proposed. The first method is suitable for less complex IRT models such as unidimensional models. The second method is generally applicable but is designed for use with more complex models such as high-dimensional IRT models. The proposed methods are compared to existing methods using real data sets and a simulation study. The comparisons are based on simple structure multidimensional IRT models with two-parameter logistic item models.

In this article, we introduced a new extension of the binomial-exponential 2 distribution. We discussed some of its structural mathematical properties. A simple type Copula-based construction is also presented to construct the bivariate- and multivariate-type distributions. We estimated the model parameters via the maximum likelihood method. Finally, we illustrated the importance of the new model by the study of two real data applications to show the flexibility and potentiality of the new model in modeling skewed and symmetric data sets.

In this article, a new three parameters lifetime model called the Topp-Leone Generalized Inverted Exponential (TLGIE) Distribution is introduced. Various properties of the model are derived, including moments, quantile function, survival function, hazard rate function, mean deviation and mode. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the unknown parameters. The properties of the maximum likelihood estimators using Fisher information matrix are studied. Three real data sets are applied for illustrative purpose of this study.

In this paper, two new distributions were introduced to model unimodal and/or bimodal data. The first distribution, which was obtained by applying a simple transformation to a unit-Birnbaum–Saunders random variable, is useful for modeling data with positive support, while the second is appropriate for fitting data on the (0,1) interval. Extensions to regression models were also studied in this work, and statistical inference was performed from a classical perspective by using the maximum likelihood method. A small simulation study is presented to evaluate the benefits of the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters. Finally, two applications to real data sets are reported to illustrate the developed methodology.
