The main thrust of this paper is to appraise the need for the teaching of occupational health and safety education as seen by secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Occupational safety education is an advocated subject that emphasizes on developing knowledge, skills and attitude of safety practices in any defined work environment. This has been reemphasized by the International Labour Organization (ILO), to be taken as a matter of urgency in order to enable its elementary introduction in the school system. To ascertain its relevance in secondary schools, descriptive research design was adopted and the random and systematic sampling techniques were utilized to obtain 242 students from the selected secondary schools in the Local Government Area. Self-structured questionnaires to gather information about the need for occupational safety education among students of Egor Local Government Area were used. It was revealed that the secondary schools students demonstrated a positive desire towards occupational safety education as school subject to enable them have better career choices and to practice safety measures effectively in order to avoid injuries and other work environment related hazards. It was therefore recommended that the school curriculum reform should advocate and present to the Ministry of Education and National Education Research and Development Commission the need to implement the introduction of occupational safety education in secondary schools.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to find out the level of the listening comprehension strategies that junior secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State use in learning English Language. From a population of six thousand five hundred and thirty four (6534) Junior Secondary 3 students in public schools, a total of six hundred and sixty two (662) students constituted the sample size drawn through the stratified sampling and simple random techniques from six (6) sampled schools. Two instruments titled Listening Comprehension Proficiency Test (LCPT), developed by TOEFL and Listening Comprehension Strategy Questionnaire (LCSQ) adopted from Oxford (1990) Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) were used to collect the data for the study. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation). Results indicated that among the six strategy categories, Metacognitive (M=2.16, SD= .46), had the highest mean, followed by the Cognitive (M=1.97, SD= .34), Compensation (M=1.97, SD=.46), Social (M=1.95, SD=.47) and Memory (M=1.89, SD=.41). Affective (M=1.84, SD=.43) had the lowest mean. On the average, all the variables put together the findings from research question 2 indicates that the subjects had a mean score of 1.96 which is lower than the theoretical mean of 2.0. This indicates that students′ use of listening strategies is low. As a result, the study proposed that learners should be exposed to listening strategy instruction.

The study assesses the attitude of senior secondary school students towards agriculture as a profession in some selected secondary schools in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State. One hundred respondents were randomly selected from five senior secondary schools purposively selected due to their questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed with the aid of frequency count, percentages and cumulative percentage while correlation analysis was used to test the hypothesis. The findings reveal the personal characteristic of the respondents sampled as well as their level of interest in agriculture as a profession. The statistical analysis performed on the respondents’ attitude towards agriculture as a profession revealed that there was significant relationship to the respondents’ gender, educational level father and mother’s occupation respectively while age and religion were statistically insignificant.

This study examined the errors of pronoun usage among Nigerian Secondary School Students. The study looked specifically at pronoun types, and identified and examined the errors that secondary school students make in their use. The research subjects were students of public secondary schools in Oyo West Local Government Area. There are fifteen (15) public secondary schools in the Local Government Area. However, out of the fifteen (15) public secondary schools, five (5) were chosen. The researcher made use of stratified sampling technique in order to classify the respondents’ view into different characteristics for clear and better results. A total of one hundred (100) students were selected for the study, with twenty (20) students selected from each school. Test questions with options were designed specifically for the students in the selected schools. The test questions focused on all the aspects of pronoun usage, especially the areas where students make errors such as subjective case pronouns, objective case pronouns, possessive case pronouns and tactic pronouns. The test was adequately supervised to see that the respondents did not consult their mates for any assistance before they could respond to the test. It was administered in the classroom for their convenience and proper supervision. There were twenty (20) questions in the test, four questions each were on the subjective case, objective case, possessive case, problematic pronouns usages and unique pronouns types (indefinite pronoun and reciprocal pronouns). At the end, the test scripts were collected and marked. The errors made were identified and categorised and examined. The study clearly showed that secondary school students in Nigeria use pronouns that are inaccurate or incorrect in their expressions. In this vein, the study showed that these errors occur because the students have not fully learned the correct use of the pronouns. The study also found that the teaching method applied in the teaching of English grammar in secondary schools is not very effective and English language teachers need to set up a workable teaching and evaluation method that will show how well a learner has learned. The study concluded that the students need constant exposure to the English language to fully develop communicative competence in it.

Computer education around the globe has taken new dimension and countries that have been able to key into the developmental stride have succeeded to bridging the deficit of traditional classroom teaching in the late 80s and early 90s education. 21st century children have different educational mentality to that of 19th century children and this has been the advancement in technology has changed the narrative. However, there are serious setback in the manner developing countries teaches computer in schools. To a great extent, the quest to make the secondary school students use computer the same way as their counterpart around the globe has over the years surfer serious setback in Oredo Local Government Area. This paper examined and conducted a survey on the use of computer in Oredo Local Government Area Secondary School through structured questionnaires. From the survey, it was observed that the Secondary Schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State are yet to comply with the 1987 initiative of the then Federal Government of Nigeria to make computer available in all school which in turn led to the National Computer Policy of 1998. As at today, the Secondary schools student are still being taught computer classes without having computer to demonstrate the nitty-gritty.
