Porous pavements are used to allow infiltration of water for increasing ground water storage. Bio char (Charcoal) is a low cost adsorbent used for the removal of heavy metals and other contaminants. This project examines the possibility of using bio char in porous asphalt mixes and efficiency of the asphalt layer modified with charcoal in removing contaminants from typical storm water. Bio char is added by partial replacement of fine aggregates of size less than 2.36 mm. Preliminary Marshall tests indicated that bio char content of about 1to 2 % is not seriously affecting the properties of porous asphalt mix. Marshall test without charcoal has given the optimum binder content as 5 %. Therefore for the study, samples for Marshall tests were prepared keeping the optimum binder content as 5 % and varying the charcoal content as 1, 1.5 & 2 %. From the drain down, air void, flow and stability requirement it was seen that 1.5 % of charcoal is the optimum. Subsequently for the water quality analysis of water infiltrating through the porous asphalt layer samples are prepared using 1.5 % charcoal. Typical storm water is prepared by adding nitrate & chromium to deionized water. Water quality analysis revealed that charcoal modified asphalt layer can remove 97.2 % nitrate, 56 % of chromium from the storm water, and improve the quality of ground water.

A study was carried out to find out the water quality ofByramangala lake of Ramanagara district. The water quality of Byramangala lake water and ground water from bore wells situated in the area within 600 meters surrounding the lake was analyzed. The quality analysis of various parameters such as BODs, COD, DO, E-Coli, and pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Solids and Total Hardness were tested. In addition, the presence of metals such as Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb), and Iron (Fe) in the lake water and ground water samples were tested. Results for the various tests conducted showed similar trends for both lake water and ground water. It was observed that certain parameters such as BOD5, and COD were beyond permissible limits as per the BIS standards for drinking water. A few remedial measures have been proposed that may help in mitigating the pollution in the selected project area Byramangala Lake.

The measurement of 2D geo-electrical using Wenner Alpha configuration was conducted in the shore line of northern part of Ternate island, in order to know the depth of interface and to analyze the aquifers in conjunction with estimation of ground water potential. Water quality analysis is also conducted in some dug wells, such as in situ water temperature, electrical conductivity, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and salinity.Due to laboratory analysis, the values of measured parameters of water quality from some dug wells meets to the standards referred, especially for drinking water. The result of interpretation from geo-electrical data showed the depth of interface less than 10m.  From a drilled well data near shore line, indicate about 5m deep of interface. Base on geo-electrical survey, water quality analysis and field observation can be concluded that Ternate Island has limited potential of ground water, especially related to amount of fresh ground water. Which is now days, no alternative source yet of clean water for domestic use.

In a few decades backwards in the city of Kraljevo occur certain problems with water quality, as well as with water supply. Based on the analysis of the present environmental state, the authors identified certain influences on the quality of the surface and ground water. Considering significant quantity of water recourses on this territory, as well as its threatened quality, it is necessary to pay attention much more on the problem of the pollution and protection of the surface and ground water.
