scholarly journals Stagnation Point Flow through a Porous Medium towards Stretching Surface in the Presence of Heat Generation

In this work, the permeable system of a viscous fluid which impacts a porous stretching surface by heat generation, an investigation has been conducted on a steady laminar flow. Governing equations are converted into nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using the similarities and the solutions are obtained by using the shooting technique. The influences of the dimensionless parameters on the momentum and energy equations. Impacts on together flow and heat transfer from porosity, stretching of the medium of the velocity of the surface and heat generation /absorption factor are exhibited through graphs and deliberated.

In recent decades, micropolar fluid has been one of the major interesting research subjects due to the numerous applications such as blood, paint, body fluid, polymers, colloidal fluid and suspension fluid. However, the behavior of micropolar fluid flow over a permeable stretching surface of another quiescent fluid with a heavier density of micropolar fluid under the condition of mixed convection is still unknown. Thus, the current work aims to investigate numerically the mixed convection of micropolar fluid flow over a permeable stretching surface of another quiescent fluid. In this research, the similarity transformation is implemented to reduce the boundary layer governing equations from partial differential equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Then, this model is solved numerically using shooting technique with Runge-Kutta-Gill method and applied in Jupyter Notebook using Python 3 language. The behavior of micropolar fluid in terms of velocity, skin friction, microrotation and temperature are analyzed.

An analysis is made of the steady laminar axisymmetric stagnation point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid in a porous medium impinging on a permeable radially stretching sheet with heat generation or absorption. A uniform suction or blowing is applied normal to the plate which is maintained at a constant temperature. Similarity transformation is used to transform the governing partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations. The finite difference method and generalized Thomas algorithm are used to solve the governing nonlinear momentum and energy equations. The effects of the uniform suction/blowing velocity, the stretching parameter and the heat generation/absorption coefficient on both the flow field and heat transfer are presented and discussed. The results indicate that increasing the stretching parameter or the suction/blowing velocity decreases both the velocity and thermal boundary layer thicknesses. The effect of the stretching parameter on the velocity components is more apparent for suction than blowing while its effect on the temperature and rate of heat transfer at the wall is clearer in the case of blowing than suction.

Convective heat transfer for steady laminar flow between two concentric circular pipes with walls heated and/or cooled independently and subjected to uniform heat generation is presented in analytical closed form utilizing the linearized Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The flow field is hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed. The effect of heat generation is depicted in Fig. 1 where the ratio of the Nusselt number with heat generation to without heat generation is plotted against the radius ratio, the core size ω. It is seen that heat generation may have positive as well as negative effect on the Nusselt number.

A 2-D computational analysis is carried out to calculate heat transfer and friction factor for laminar flow through a rectangular duct with using fan–shape ribs as a turbulator. The types of rib shapes are imported on the heat transfer rate and fluid flow in heat exchangers. The present study makes use of fan-shaped ribs with two arrangements. The first arrangement was downstream fan–shape ribs (case 1) and upstream fan–shape ribs (case 2) is investigated. A commercial finite volume package ANSYS FLUENT 16.1 is used for solving the meshing process with continuity, momentum, and energy equations respectively to investigate fluid flow and heat transfer across the ribs surface. The Reynolds number (Re) range of (400 – 2250) with different relative roughness pitch (p/H= 0.17, 0.22, 0.27 and 0.32) at constant rib high (e/H). The results show that the heat transfers and friction increase with using ribs also, the results show that heat transfer Directly proportional to pitch ratio and Reynolds number. The Nusselt number enhancement by (12% -29%).

Abstract The effects of thermal radiation and mass transfer on an unsteady hydromagnetic boundary layer mixed convection flow along a vertical porous stretching surface with heat generation are studied. The fluid is assumed to be viscous and incompressible. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity variables. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by using the Runge-Kutta fourth order method along with the shooting technique. Velocity, temperature, concentration, the skin-friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number for variations in the governing thermo physical parameters are computed, analyzed and discussed.
