Objective: Radiotherapy is a one curative method for prostate cancer. Ionizing radiation can cause inflammation of tissues in and around the irradiated sites. But it is also suggested that low-dose radiation has anti-inflammatory effects. The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of radiotherapy on some inflammatory markers in prostate cancer patients. Material and Methods: A total of 42 patients with prostate cancer and 30 healthy subjects were included in the present study. The day prior to radiotherapy (pre radiotherapy group) and the day radiotherapy was completed (post radiotherapy group) venous blood samples were collected. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet, mean platelet volume (MPV), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) levels were detected. Results: Neutrophil values of the pre radiotherapy group were higher than the control group (p<0.05), and values of the post radiotherapy group were lower than the pre radiotherapy group (p<0.001). Lymphocyte values of the post radiotherapy group were lower than the control, and the pre radiotherapy groups (p <0.001 for both). Platelet values were decreased in the post radiotherapy group compared to the pre radiotherapy group (p <0.01). MPV values of the pre radiotherapy group were higher than the control group (p<0.05), and were lower in the post radiotherapy group than the pre radiotherapy group (p <0.001). NLR and PLR values were decreased in the post radiotherapy group compared to the control group (p <0.001 for both), and were increased in post radiotherapy group compared to the pre radiotherapy group (p<0.001 for both). Conclusion: Our findings showed that neutrophil, and MPV were increased in the pre radiotherapy group compared to the control group. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet, and MPV were decreased, NLR and PLR were increased in the post radiotherapy group compared to the pre radiotherapy group.

ABSTRACT Objective: Studies have shown that neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet / lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and mean platelet volume (MPV) can be used in CSU to evaluate inflammation marker and response to treatment. In our study, we aimed to compare the NLR, PLR and MPV values in the control group and pre-treatment patient groups, and to investigate the changes with antihistamine treatment and omalizumab treatment in the CSU patient group and control group. Materials and Methods: 146 patients who applied to Manisa Celal Bayar University Dermatology and Venereal Diseases outpatient clinic, with a diagnosis of chronic spontaneous urticaria, using antihistamine or omalizumab were included in the study. Results: The neutrophil and NLR values of the antihistamine and omalizumab treatment group with CSU diagnosis were found to be significantly higher than the pre-treatment control group, but there was no significant difference between each other. Platelet count was found higher and MPV value was found lower in omalizumab group compare to control group. In the omalizumab group, a significant decrease in neutrophil count and platelet count was measured at 3rd months. Conclusion: Neutrophil count, platelet count, NLR values were higher and MPV values were found to be low compared to the control group, these values can be used to measure disease activity. After the treatment, a significant decrease in neutrophil count and platelet count was detected in the omalizumab group. In addition to its anti-IgE effect, omalizumab can show its anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the neutrophil count and platelet count to be within the normal range.

Aim: Our aim was the evaluation of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume levels in the patient and control groups with hypothyroidism. Methods: Our study was conducted with 111 participants; 68 patients and 43 healthy individuals as the control group. Thyroid hormones, lipid panel and hemogram levels of the participants were examined. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume levels were calculated. Results: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume levels were similar between the patients with subclinical and overt hypothyroidism and the control group. A positive correlation was found between neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and platelet lymphocyte ratio. A negative correlation was found between platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume. While there was no relationship between thyroid stimulating hormone and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume; a negative correlation was found between neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and free thyroxine. Conclusion: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume levels were similar in the hypothyroidism and control groups. We believe that prospective studies that evaluate neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume together with other inflammatory parameters are needed to predict the risk of microinflammation and cardiovascular disease in patients with hypothyroidism. Keywords: Neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, mean platelet volume, hypothyroidism

Abstract Background:Patients who have evidence of disease progression (eg, increase in serum prostate-specific antigen [PSA], new metastases, progression of existing metastases) while being managed with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) are considered to have castration-resistant disease. Docetaxel (75 mg/m2) given every three weeks in combination with daily prednisone (5 mg twice a day) significantly prolonged overall survival compared with mitoxantrone plus prednisone in the TAX 327 phase III trial [3]. Based upon those results, docetaxel plus prednisone has become the standard initial regimen when chemotherapy is indicated for CRPC Methods: Inflammation-based markers, such as the Neutrophile/Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), are widely available and inexpensive measurements that are easy to integrate into pretreatment evaluation. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a marker of activated platelets is associated some types of cancer including ovarian, gastric cancer. We retrospectively evaluated the predictive impact of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and MPV as a marker for in men with progressive metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) following docetaxel. Results: A significant correlation was not observed between NLR and PSA response. A significant correlation was not also observed between MPV and PSA response. There no correlation was found between MPV and NLR with total PSA level and response (p:0.355, p:0.673 respectively)Conclusion: . In our study; We didn’t show any correlation between MWP level, NLR ratio and response to Docetaxel therapy A significant correlation was not also observed between NLR , MPV and PSA response.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory, systemic disease. In response to therapy in psoriasis patients, the psoriasis area severity index (PASI) is used to evaluate the disease activity. However more objective laboratory tools should be developed besides PASI. In various inflammatory diseases, mean platelet volume (MPV), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are inflammatory biomarkers that are known to be evaluated. The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of platelet activation and leukocyte infiltration by measuring MPV, NLR, and PLR.

Methods: This was a case-control observational study conducted at department of dermatology and venereology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University from July 2016 to December 2017. A total of 55 psoriasis cases and 55 healthy controls were included according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Results: We have investigated a total of 55 psoriasis patients and another 55 age-sex matched control. There were 31 males (56.36%) and 24 females (43.44%) psoriasis patients in the study. The mean age of the patient was 34.27±13.44 years. Mean±standard deviation (SD) value of MPV, NLR, and PLR in our study cases were 9.92±1.21, 4.32±8.53, and 292.96±88.80 whereas in the case of control values were 9.46±0.636, 4.54±8.51, and 162.26±103.38 respectively.

Conclusions: In conclusion, we suggest MPV is a strong indicator of psoriasis severity. MPV and PLR should be followed up routinely to take preventive measures against psoriasis-related micro and macro vascular thrombotic complications.
