INTRODUCTION: Prevalence of occupational overuse syndrome (OOS) is not new in computer professionals. Occupational overuse syndromes are diseases of the modern era and rank first among the health problems in the frequency with which they affect the quality of life. As the IT has been developed in a rapid way the different health problems are emerging in the same way which is of great concern. Some are caused by occupational exposures, and are marked with direct professional relation, or the action of harmful effects in the workplace.MATERIAL & METHODS: A descriptive study was conducted in software professionals of Rupandehi district, Nepal. Data was collected as per pretested structured Performa from 270 respondents randomly and analyzed by using SPSS, MS-excel and Chi-square test to determine associations between categorical variables.RESULTS: The results of the study showed that majority of respondents belonged to 20-30 years of age, 74.4 per cent of respondents were male and 25.6 per cent were female, major occupational overuse syndrome was headache, back pain and neck pain. Majority of respondent's (56.3%) working duration was 3-6 years and increased health problems are observed with increase in work duration.CONCLUSION: The present study concluded that majority of respondents had health problems and the major occupational overuse syndromes were headache, back pains, neck pain. Study also concludes that there is a relation between working duration and health problems, and the problems increase as the duration at work increases.Journal of Universal College of Medical Sciences, Vol. 5, No, 2, 2017, Page: 26-30

Chronic neck pain is a common human health problem. Changes in scapular posture and alteration of muscle activation patterns of scapulothoracic muscles are cited as potential risk factors for neck pain. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of neck exercise training (NET) with and without scapular stabilization training (SST) on pain intensity, the scapula downward rotation index (SDRI), forward head angle (FHA) and neck range of motion (ROM) in patients with chronic neck pain and scapular dyskinesia. A total of sixty-six subjects with chronic neck pain and scapular dyskinesia were randomly divided into three groups: neck exercise training, n = 24, combined training (NET + SST), n = 24 and a control group, n = 24. Pain intensity, SDRI, FHA and ROM were measured by the numerical rating scale, caliper, photogrammetry and IMU sensor, respectively. When the combined intervention group consisting of NET and SST was compared with NET alone at six weeks, there was a statistically significant difference in pain intensity, SDRI, FHA and cervical ROM for flexion and extension (p ≤ 0.05). Adding scapular exercises to neck exercises had a more significant effect in decreasing pain intensity, SDRI, FHA and increased cervical ROM than neck exercises alone in patients with chronic neck pain. These findings indicate that focus on the scapular posture in the rehabilitation of chronic neck pain effectively improves the symptoms.

Objective: “La maladie de Grisel” (Grisel's syndrome) is a spontaneously occurring atlantoaxial subluxation with torticollis. We present a case of atlantoaxial subluxation occurring in a 20-year period of pharyngoplasty surgery. The occurrence of a “spontaneous” atlantoaxial subluxation after oral cavity or pharynx operations is rare. Because some neck pain and stiffness are commonly seen after these kinds of operations, we would like to draw attention to this unusual complication. Symptoms associated with a torticollis after an operation in the oral cavity or pharynx requires additional investigation to exclude this rare complication. A review of the available literature concerning etiology and treatment of la maladie de Grisel is presented.
