The aim of this article is to present the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) as a support tool for cartographical mapping related to the Orienteering Sport, as a contribution for the enhancement of the currently used techniques, which result will be spread between the members of the Quadro de Mapeadores da CBO (Brazilian Federation of Orienteering), which gathers the main cartographers of the sport in Brazil and regulates the main aspects related to the production of maps for Orienteering. Therefore, the Campus of UFMS (Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul) was mapped, according to the ISSOM 2007 (International Specification for Sprint Orienteering Maps), on the scale of 1:4.000 using orthophotographs with ground sample distance of 10 cm and vectorial files (contour lines with equidistance of 1 metre and urban zoning) of Campo Grande city distributed freely by Prefeitura Municipal de Campo Grande as data source for the base map. The data was processed using the software QGIS (QGIS Development Team 2016), a free and open source Geographical Information System (GIS), and the Original Computer File was developed using OCAD software, an specific program for Orienteering maps, being validated by its utilisation on the final stage of the II Campeonato Sul-Mato-Grossense de Orientação (2nd Orienteering Championship of Mato Grosso do Sul). To ratify, in official ways, the obedience to the international specifications, it was sent to the evaluation of the Quadro de Mapeadores da CBO (the official cartographers group of CBO) and, as a result, it was approved and included in the data base of the confederation, under the register number 232.

ABSTRACT Forest fires are a permanent threat in urban-forest interface areas and cause considerable environmental damage, especially in protected areas. An efficient way to assist decision-making to prevent an increase in forest fires is risk assessment using geographical information systems (GIS). The objective of this study was to evaluate the risk of forest fires in the municipality of Bodoquena, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, using remote sensing data and spatial analysis techniques implemented in a GIS. The procedures of the methodology are based on spatial analysis techniques to prepare maps of the likelihood of fire based on calculations of the Euclidean distance, the Kernel statistical method and fuzzy transformation and to combine these maps via the increasing diffuse overlay method. The results showed a high risk of forest fires on the margins of the urban area, rural settlements and main roads that cross the municipality, as well as the surrounding areas. It is concluded that the municipality of Bodoquena has a high risk of forest fires in areas with high biodiversity, especially the areas surrounding the Serra da Bodoquena National Park and Mato Grosso do Sul Pantanal.

The universal access to electricity is a very important issue for the country because it is directly related to economic and social development. In this context, Energisa Mato Grosso do Sul, which holds the power concession and distribution for the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, is looking for technical solutions economically viable to universalize the rural area at the Pantanal Sul-Matogrossense that presents challenges due to its extremely peculiar geographical, climatic and environmental characteristics. Therefore, this paper aims to subsidize the planning stages and cadastral survey of individual properties from the South Pantanal area, using geospatial techniques. These techniques include the cartographic mapping of the study area, the spatial analysis of georeferenced data and the development and customization of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The results are almost 35 thousand linear kilometers of access roads and more than 16 thousand buildings have been mapped, of which at least 29% are still not served by the electricity distribution network. Systems to subsidize the navigation and cadastre the isolated properties were also customized and developed. All of these inputs that allowed the planning and survey steps in the field are carried out with greater efficiency and assertiveness

To develop a protocol to guide pasture sampling for estimation of paddock pasture mass in hill country, a range of pasture sampling strategies, including random sampling, transects and stratification based on slope and aspect, were evaluated using simulations in a Geographical Information Systems computer environment. The accuracy and efficiency of each strategy was tested by sampling data obtained from intensive field measurements across several farms, regions and seasons. The number of measurements required to obtain an accurate estimate was related to the overall pasture mass and the topographic complexity of a paddock, with more variable paddocks requiring more samples. Random sampling from average slopes provided the best balance between simplicity and reliability. A draft protocol was developed from the simulations, in the form of a decision support tool, where visual determination of the topographic complexity of the paddock, along with the required accuracy, were used to guide the number of measurements recommended. The protocol was field tested and evaluated by groups of users for efficacy and ease of use. This sampling protocol will offer farmers, consultants and researchers an efficient, reliable and simple way to determine pasture mass in New Zealand hill country settings. Keywords: hill country, feed budgeting, protocol pasture mass, slope

Abstract—A synopsis of Dicliptera (Acanthaceae) for Brazil is presented. Six species are recognized: Dicliptera ciliaris, D. sexangularis, and D. squarrosa, widely distributed in South America; D. purpurascens, which ranges from the North Region of Brazil (in the state of Acre) to eastern Bolivia; D. gracilirama, a new species from the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil; and D. granchaquenha, a new species recorded in dry and semideciduous forests in Bolivia and western Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Furthermore, we propose new synonyms and designate lectotypes for eleven names. An identification key to the six accepted Dicliptera species in Brazil is provided.
