Thirty-nine species of sawfly (Symphyta) are recorded for the first time in Bulgaria. Most of these were collected during early spring of 2018, in the south-east of the country (Burgas and Varna Provinces). Empriaaridicola Macek & Prous, sp. nov. is described as new to science from specimens collected in several central, east and south European countries. Lectotypes are designated for Poecilosomaparvula Konow, 1892, Empriapravei Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1925 and E.pseudoklugi Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1929. Empriapravei and Sciapteryxbyzantina Benson, 1968 are at present only known in Europe from the coastal zone of the Black Sea. The new Bulgarian records of Hoplocampacantoti Chevin, 1986 and Neomessasteusloffi (Konow, 1892) represent large extensions in their recorded ranges, previously comprising respectively only northern France, and north-eastern Germany. Possible host plant associations are noted for several species, based on observations of adults.

Two New Families and a New Species of Myxosporeans (Myxozoa, Myxosporea) of the Mediterranean and Black Sea FishesDescriptions of two new families — Polysporoplasmidae fam. n. (Syn. Sphaerosporidae Davis, 1917 in Sitja-Bobadilla, Alvarez-Pellitero, 1995) and Gadimyxidae fam. n. (syn. Parvicapsulidae Schulman, 1953 in Kie et al., 2007), and one new species of myxosporeans —Gadimyxa ovalesp. n. — parasites of fishes of the Mediterranean and the Black Seas are presented. Species of the genus Gadimyxa is found for the first time in the Black Sea.

Overall results of several spider mite surveys performed in the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve (Ukraine) during the 1990s to 2015 are presented. A total of 20 species were found, belonging to 11 genera, from 58 different host plant species, of which one mite genus, Mesobryobia (Wainstein, 1956), and three species, M. terpoghossiani (Bagdasarian, 1959), Georgiobia richteri (Bagdasarian, 1954) and Tetranychus lonicerae Beglyarov & Mitrofanov, 1973, are new mite records to the Ukrainian acarofauna. Moreover, 15 new host plant species were also recorded as new hosts for 10 spider mite species. In addition, thanks to the newly collected material and a taxonomical historical review, and according to morphological data, we restore the genus Georgiobia Wainstein, 1960, and provide a new diagnosis of this genus. Therefore, a list of several new and reinstated combinations is provided. Finally, a new species, G. skuthiae n. sp., collected in the reserve on Agropyron sp., is described and illustrated, increasing the number of species that belong to the genus Georgiobia to nine.

Two new species of marine fungi have been found in the coastal zone of the Black Sea: ascomycete Corollospora intermedia (I. Schmidt) E. B. G. Jones 1969 and basidiomycete Nia globospora Barata & Basilio 1997 [as ’Nia globispora’ Barata & Basilio 1997]. The article focuses on morphological descriptions of the fungi, and summarizes the data on the areas of these species. Morphometric parameters of fungi from the Black Sea do not differ from those in other regions of areas. N. globospora was registered in the seas of Russia for the first time.

The subfamily Sericothripinae Karny (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is recorded for the first time from the Saudi Arabian fauna. Four species belonging to two genera, Hydatothrips Karny and Neohydatothrips John, are recognized, and H. bahaensis Rasool, sp. n. is described from Al Baha region (southwestern of Saudi Arabia). Host-plant associations are given for the new species and also N. amygdali Minaei, and the male and larvae of N. amygdali are reported for the first time. An illustrated key to the genera and species is provided.

A new species of the genus Cimmerites Jeannel, 1928, C. maximovitchi sp. nov., is described from the Akhunskaya Cave and Labirintovaya Cave, both located in the Akhun Karst Massif on the Black Sea Coast of the West Caucasus (Krasnodar Territory, Russia). The new species is rather isolated within the genus Cimmerites and occupies an intermediate position between species related to C. kryzhanovskii Belousov, 1998 and species close to C. vagabundus Belousov, 1998. Though both C. maximovitchi sp. nov. and C. kryzhanovskii are still known only from caves, these species are quite similar in their life form to other members of the genus which are all true endogean species.

We describe a new species, D. sonorae Heed and Castrezana from Sonora, Mexico in the repleta species group of Drosophila (Drosophilidae, Diptera). This species is morphologically similar to other members of the newly established D. longicornis complex, and the well-established D. longicornis cluster. Host plant associations, biogeography, and distributions of species in both the longicornis and mulleri species complexes are discussed here.

Abstract. The Black Sea coastal nowcasting and forecasting system was built within the framework of EU FP6 ECOOP (European COastalshelf sea OPerational observing and forecasting system) project for five regions: the south-western basin along the coasts of Bulgaria and Turkey, the north-western shelf along the Romanian and Ukrainian coasts, coastal zone around of the Crimea peninsula, the north-eastern Russian coastal zone and the coastal zone of Georgia. The system operates in the real-time mode during the ECOOP project and afterwards. The forecasts include temperature, salinity and current velocity fields. Ecosystem model operates in the off-line mode near the Crimea coast.

The Sasyk Reservoir is one of the largest seaside reservoirs in Ukraine, artificially maintained as a freshwater area including various floodplain areas. The Reservoir originated from an estuary to now being an almost freshwater reservoir. The diatoms (Bacillariophyta) in benthos were investigated for analyzing the coastal zone diversity of the Black Sea inside the borders of Ukraine. The indicated diatom composition was formed by 97 species (100 infraspecies taxa). Some rare marine and freshwater taxa were noted, as well as three species reported in Ukrainian territory for the first time (Navicula vandamii Schoeman et R.E.M. Archibald, Sellaphora difficillima (Hustedt) C.E. Wetzel, L. Ector et D.G. Mann, and Mastogloia laterostrata Hustedt). The bioindicative characteristics of the diatom composition testified to the freshwater condition of the reservoir. Changes to the salinity level of the Sasyk Reservoir were exposed due to the composition of benthic diatoms. The presence of mesohalobous species (7 taxa) acknowledges conditions that are typical for estuaries and mouths of rivers and reveals the salinity changes in the Sasyk Reservoir. Likewise, the prevailing number of oligohalobous diatoms (61 taxa) reveal presence of freshwater in the reservoir. The implementation of the Polish phytobenthos lake assessment method for the nearby Ukrainian Reservoir was conducted for the first time. The multimetric Diatom Index for lake values varied from 0.39 to 0.76, and revealed alterations in the status over the Sasyk sites, ranging from good, moderate, to poor. Thus, it may be concluded that the current ecological status relating to the composition of benthic diatoms of the reservoir located in the coastal zone of the Black Sea is evaluated as having a moderate status class with some exceptions.
