Two species of ichneumon wasps (Ichneumonidae),Gelanes horstmanniKhalaim,sp. n.(Tersilochinae) andIdiogramma elbakyanaeKhalaimsp. n.(Tryphoninae), are described from the pine forest at 2800–2900 m from the State of Tlaxcala in Central Mexico; a third species,I. comstockii(Ashmead), is found to occur in the State of Nuevo León in Northeast Mexico. The generaGelanesHorstmann andIdiogrammaFörster are associated with xyelid sawflies (Xyelidae), and both, as well as the tryphonine tribe Idiogrammatini, are recorded from Mexico for the first time. An identification key to the twoIdiogrammaspecies occurring in Mexico is provided.

We document the first records of Gerrhonotus parvus in the state of Coahuila, México. From March 2012 to March 2017, 6 males and 2 females were found in pine forest and submontane scrubland plant communities in the Sierra de Zapalinamé Natural Protected Area, which is located in the municipalities of Saltillo and Arteaga. These records extend the known distribution of the species 28–44 km west of the nearest occurrences in the state of Nuevo León.

Three new species of Otostigmus Porat, 1876 from Brazilian Atlantic Forest are described. Otostigmus beckeri sp. n. andO. lanceolatus sp. n. are described from the state of Bahia and O. giupponii sp. n. from the state of Espírito Santo. InBrazil, the otostigmine scolopendrid genus Otostigmus comprises 22 species. A summary of Brazilian Otostigmus speciesis presented with new distribution records, taxonomic remarks when appropriate and an identification key. Otostigmus sul-catus Meinert, 1886 is recorded for the first time from Brazil; the Andean Otostigmus silvestrii Kraepelin 1903, previouslyrecorded from Brazil, is here considered not to be present in this country. Eight nominal species are regarded here as newsynonyms. Five of them—Otostigmus pradoi Bücherl, 1939, O. longistigma Bücherl, 1939, O. longipes Bücherl, 1939,O. langei Bücherl, 1946 and O. dentifusus Bücherl, 1946—are based on females of O. tibialis Brölemann, 1902. O. latipesBücherl, 1954 is conspecific with and is considered a junior synonym of O. sulcatus Meinert, 1886; O. limbatus diminutusBücherl, 1946 is a junior synonym of O. limbatus Meinert, 1886 and O. fossulatus Attems, 1928 is a junior synonym of O. goeldii Brölemann, 1898. A lectotype is designated for O. goeldii.

The Praxelinae comprises two genera—Praxelis and Chromolaena—and 19 species in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost State of Brazil. This is the first taxonomic treatment of these genera in the state according to their current circumscriptions. Chromolaena squarrosoramosa is formally reported for the first time for the flora of the state. The names C. callilepis and C. paraguariensis are used for the first time to refer to species previously known as Eupatorium polyanthum and E. angusticeps. Eupatorium angusticeps, considered in previous studies endemic to Rio Grande do Sul and probably extinct, is synonymized under C. paraguariensis and has its geographical range extended. Two neglected names, C. elliptica and C. latisquamulosa, are re-established, and C. umbelliformis is synonymized under C. elliptica. Furthermore, C. rhinanthacea is recollected for the first time after 40 years, and C. gentianoides is rediscovered in the state after almost 200 years of the original collection. Identification key and morphological descriptions, as well as distribution maps, field photographs, illustrations and general comments on the biology, ecology and identification of the species are provided.

The orchid bee fauna of Estação Ecológica de Murici (ESEC Murici), in the state of Alagoas, one of the largest remnants of the Atlantic Rain Forest in northeastern Brazil, was surveyed for the first time. Seven hundred and twenty-one orchid-bee males belonging to 17 species were collected from the 3rd to the 10th of September, 2009. Besides the recently described Eulaema (Apeulaema) felipei Nemésio, 2010, three other species recorded at ESEC Murici deserve further attention: Euglossa amazonica Dressler, 1982b, recorded for the first time outside the Amazon Basin; Euglossa milenae Bembé, 2007 and Euglossa analis Westwood, 1840, both recorded for the first time in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil north to São Francisco river. These results together with previous samplings in the state of Alagoas reveal that at least 22 orchid-bee species are now known to occur there. Three other species not recorded for Alagoas yet are known from the neighbor states of Sergipe, Pernambuco, and Paraíba. An identification key to all 25 species of Euglossina known to occur in the states of Alagoas, Sergipe, Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Norte is provided.

Virulence of isolates of Puccinia coronata collected during 1992 to 1998 from Sonora, Chihua-hua, Nuevo Leon, and five states in Central Mexico were compared on a set of 27 differential oat (Avena sativa) lines with different genes for race-specific resistance. Frequencies of virulence and the presence of specific pathogenic races were compared among the four regions of Mexico and between Mexico and the adjoining states of California and Texas in the United States. The P. coronata populations in Mexico were highly diverse even though the sexual stage of the fungus is not known to occur there. Overall virulence frequencies were most similar between Chihuahua and Nuevo Leon, but there were more races in common between Central Mexico and Chihuahua than between any other pair of regions of Mexico. No races found in Sonora were found in other regions of Mexico. More races found in Texas also occurred in Nuevo Leon than in any other region of Mexico. Mean virulence complexity was lowest in isolates from central Mexico; greatest in Sonora, California, and Texas; and intermediate in Chihuahua and Nuevo Leon. Significant (P < 0.05) associations of virulences occurred for 24 pairs of virulence genes in at least three of the four regions of Mexico. Virulences to 19 of the 24 pairs were also significantly associated in Texas; virulences to 13 were also significantly associated in California.

El Censo de Población y Vivienda del 2010 destacó a Nuevo León como la entidad con la mayor proporción de migración municipal en relación al total de su población (10.6%), superando inclusive al Estado de México y al Distrito Federal. El objetivo de este artículo consiste en analizar la dinámica migratoria reciente en la Zona Metropolitana de Monterrey a escala municipal. Los resultados remiten a tres hallazgos principales: los municipios de origen y destino indican un flujo del centro a la periferia; el patrón migratorio predominante es intrametropolitano; y el perfil sociodemográfico de los inmigrantes presenta diferencias por municipio.AbstractThe 2010 Population and Housing Census cites Nuevo León as the state with the largest proportion of municipal migration in relation to the total population (10.6%), surpassing the State of Mexico and Mexico City. The aim of this paper is to analyze the recent migration dynamics in the Monterrey metropolitan area at the municipal level. The results yield three main findings: the municipalities of origin and destination indicate a flow from the center to the periphery; the predominant migration pattern is intrametropolitan; and the socio-demographic profile of immigrants differs by municipality.

Resumen: Se reportan cincuenta y cinco especies de mamíferos pertenecientes a 8 órdenes y 19 familias para la región del Cañón del Huajuco, Municipio de Santiago, Nuevo León, México. Para cada especie se presentan observaciones sobre su historia natural, medidas somáticas y/o craneales y registros de ocurrencia. El zorrillo listado (Mephitis mephilis) es considerado como nuevo registro para el Estado.Abstract: Fifty five mammal species belonging to 8 orders and 19 families are recorded in the Huajuco Canyon, Santiago county, Nuevo León, México. Natural history observations, somatic and/or cranial measurements, and distribution records are given for each species.
