<abstract><p>Clean energy potential can be used on a large scale in order to achieve cost competitiveness and market effectiveness. This paper offers sufficient information to choose renewable technology for improving the living conditions of the local community while meeting energy requirements by employing the notion of q-rung orthopair fuzzy numbers (q-ROFNs). In real-world situations, a q-ROFN is exceptionally useful for representing ambiguous/vague data. A multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) is proposed in which the parameters have a prioritization relationship and the idea of a priority degree is employed. The aggregation operators (AOs) are formed by awarding non-negative real numbers known as priority degrees among strict priority levels. Consequently, some prioritized operators with q-ROFNs are proposed named as "q-rung orthopair fuzzy prioritized averaging (q-ROFPA<sub><italic>d</italic></sub>) operator with priority degrees and q-rung orthopair fuzzy prioritized geometric (q-ROFPG<sub><italic>d</italic></sub>) operator with priority degrees". The results of the proposed approach are compared with several other related studies. The comparative analysis results indicate that the proposed approach is valid and accurate which provides feasible results. The characteristics of the existing method are often compared to other current methods, emphasizing the superiority of the presented work over currently used operators. Additionally, the effect of priority degrees is analyzed for information fusion and feasible ranking of objects.</p></abstract>

Aim of study: The utilization of agricultural residues may become one of the major sources for production of energy from biomass. The objective of this paper was to analyse the type and quantity of agricultural residues and to determine their energy potential.Area of study: The Međimurje County (north Croatia).Material and methods: The paper analyses three models of sustainable agricultural residues management applying the multi-criteria analysis. The assessment included potentially available quantities of residues in crops, fruit, viniculture and livestock production. For determining the most appropriate model of residues utilisation the multi-criteria analysis was applied.Main results: The results show that total quantities of agricultural biomass amount to 323,912 t with energy potential of 1,092 TJ annually. The largest sustainably available potential of agricultural biomass consists of biomass from arable crops production, with total quantity of 33,670 t followed by 281,233 t of manure from livestock production. The lowest share of potential biomass are pruning residues in fruit and grapevine production with total available residual quantity of 8,109 t. Also, it results from the multi-criteria analysis that a central large scale plant for biogas production is the most feasible facility for such production.Research highlights: The results of this paper provide ground for further development of the models for assessing the sustainability of using agricultural residues, and they can also serve as a basis for assessments of bioenergy projects in specific regions of the European Union.

Abstract Access to affordable clean energy source as stipulated in UN SDG goal number 7 is important for the development and socio-economic well-being of people, the need for proper assessment of resources to achieve this goal is indisputable. The goal of this study is to assess the economic feasibility of utilizing organic fraction of Municipal Solid Wastes (MSWof) using a case study of 21 Local Government Areas (LGA) or Authority for Anambra State of Nigeria for waste to energy project. The quantity of organic fraction of MSW, energy recovery and optimum number of plants at the various LGAs was estimated. The result of the study indicates that about 198 tons maximum value of MSWof can be generated daily in Aguata LGA, with electric energy potential value of 545MW. The number of plants for the LGAs ranged from 10 to 50 and from 3 to 12 for small and medium scale plants. A large scale plant of about 50m3 can possibly be installed at all the LGAs, with a maximum of 4 plants in Idemili and Aguata LGA. The economic assessment based on Net Present Value (NPV) criteria shows poor economic feasibility for small scale plant, while NPV was positive for medium and large scale plants. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) ranged from 0.32 to 0.94, with a general increase from small scale to large scale economic feasibility. It is suggested that the autonomy of the various LGAs in the country should serve as a major motivation in adopting bio-energy projects independently, and this study will serve as a decision toolkit in the appropriate scale to be adopted.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how a legacy of event hosting competencies from one event can contribute to advancing the overall hosting capacity of a nation for future events. More specifically, the project focuses on determining the event hosting capacity legacies from the Men’s Under-20 2007 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) event in Canada and how they contributed toward winning the rights for the Women’s FIFA World Cup 2015 event. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative case study design focusing on FIFA events held in Canada in 2007 and 2015 was used. Findings Four broad event hosting capacity legacies from the U-20 2007 event that potentially impacted Canada’s ability to secure the WWC 2015 were identified. These legacies included: exemplifying success, advancement of hosting concepts, staff and leadership experience and development and enhancement of sporting infrastructure. Research limitations/implications The findings formed the basis of a discussion on the increasing formalization of event organizing committees, the need to consider collective (i.e. multiple events) legacies in the development of hosting strategies as well as the importance of developing the trust of the local community to support future sport event bids and hosting. Originality/value The originality and value of this research paper lies in its use of empirical case study findings to illustrate the potential for hosting capacity legacies of sporting events as well as the level and type of event under investigation (i.e. large-scale, football/soccer).

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present evidence to the heated debate “whether Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model should be introduced into the hospitals” and, if so, how to promote the social sustainability of such PPP projects.Design/methodology/approachThis paper has established an analytical framework to analyse the social sustainability of PPP projects. Using content analysis method, a single case study was carried out on the Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney, Australia.FindingsThe results show that there are many problems related to social sustainability in the project, due to which employees and patients were exposed to most of them. Some recommendations are provided, including to strengthen the supervision of the project, provide sufficient information, establish communication channels and stakeholder participation, improve hospital policies and procedures, and strengthen government support.Practical implicationsThis paper can provide guidance for the stakeholders in a partnership, including the public and private sectors, to analyse the social sustainability implications, and then plan and implement hospital PPP projects to achieve social sustainability goals. Meanwhile, it can also provide important reference for the employees, patients, local community and society to assess social sustainability issues, and provide relevant inputs to inform decision-makers in the development, delivery and management of hospital projects.Originality/valueThe research will contribute to knowledge of social sustainability of hospital PPP projects. The proposed analytical framework can be used to analyse and assess the social sustainability of such projects from the perspective of stakeholders.

Wind data collected of the three synoptic sites for the period of Jul 2006 to Jun 2008 at the height of 40 m has been used to study the wind characteristics, monthly and annual wind energy potential for three agricultural districts in Kerman ( 30°15/N, 56°58/E ), Iran. Two statistical methods (Meteorological and Weibull) have been applied to determine the wind characteristics. Wind energy density, mean wind speeds and wind speed directions have been investigated. A technical assessment has been done and the electricity generation from five different wind turbines having capacity of (26 kW, 100 kW, 300 kW, 600 kW and 660 kW) has been calculated. The results show that all the locations studied are not suitable for electric wind application in a large-scale.

The family described in this article provides an unusual opportunity to relate findings from genetic, histological, electrophysiological, psychophysical, and rehabilitative investigation. Although the total number evaluated is large (49), the known, living affected population is smaller (14), and these are spread from age 20 to age 59. As a result, the findings described above are those of a large-scale case study. Clearly, more data will be available through longitudinal study of the individuals documented in the course of this investigation but, given the slow nature of the progression in this disease, such studies will be undertaken after an interval of several years. The general picture presented to the audiologist who must rehabilitate these cases is that of a progressive cochlear degeneration that affects only thresholds at first, and then rapidly diminishes speech intelligibility. The expected result is that, after normal language development, the patient may accept hearing aids well, encouraged by the support of the family. Performance and satisfaction with the hearing aids is good, until the onset of the speech intelligibility loss, at which time the patient will encounter serious difficulties and may reject hearing aids as unhelpful. As the histological and electrophysiological results indicate, however, the eighth nerve remains viable, especially in the younger affected members, and success with cochlear implantation may be expected. Audiologic counseling efforts are aided by the presence of role models and support from the other affected members of the family. Speech-language pathology services were not considered important by the members of this family since their speech production developed normally and has remained very good. Self-correction of speech was supported by hearing aids and cochlear implants (Case 5’s speech production was documented in Perkell, Lane, Svirsky, & Webster, 1992). These patients received genetic counseling and, due to the high penetrance of the disease, exhibited serious concerns regarding future generations and the hope of a cure.
