The extremely fast topology has created new requirements for the geographic routing protocol, which has been the most efficient solution for Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). The frequent disconnection of links makes the choice of the next routing node extremely difficult. Hence, an efficient routing algorithm needs to deliver the appropriate path to transfer the data packets with the most relevant quality of service (QoS). In this work, the weight-aware greedy perimeter stateless (WA-GPSR) routing protocol is presented. The enhanced GPSR protocol computes the reliable communication area and selects the next forwarding vehicle based on several routing criteria. The proposal has been evaluated and compared to Maxduration-Minangle GPSR (MM-GPSR) and traditional GPSR using strict metric analysis. Our experimental results using NS-2 and VanetMobiSim, have demonstrated that WA-GPSR has the ability to enhance network performance.

Video streaming is one of the challenging issues in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) due to their highly dynamic topology and frequent connectivity disruptions. Recent developments in the routing protocol methods used in VANETs have contributed to improvements in the quality of experience (QoE) of the received video. One of these methods is the selection of the next-hop relay vehicle. In this paper, a QoE-aware geographic protocol for video streaming over VANETs is proposed. The selection process of the next relay vehicle is based on a correlated formula of QoE and quality of service (QoS) factors to enhance the users’ QoE. The simulation results show that the proposed GeoQoE-Vanet outperforms both GPSR and GPSR-2P protocols in providing the best end-user QoE of video streaming service.

The highly dynamic nature of MANETs results in frequent and unpredictable changes in the network topology, which add to the difficulty and complexity to routing among the mobile nodes within the network. Thus, establishing communication among mobile nodes is a great challenge in itself, resulting in network overloading & discarding of data packets. Nodes can change position quite frequently, which means we need a routing protocol that quickly adapts to the topology changes which is our objective.  In this paper focus has been put on the strategy to address the packet drop ratio which is an integral and important factor of communication in MANETs by minimizing the request zone. In Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, as the coverage area increases the packet drop ratio also increases which degrades the network performance and Quality of Service (QOS).Location Aware Routing  will be used as a base protocol for the proposed work which is a class of Reactive protocol to design optimized routing algorithm.

Vehicular ad hoc networks is an emerging area for researchers to provide intelligent transportation system to the society. It is due to the wide area of applications of VANETs interest is developed among the people from different countries to be a part of it. Therefore many projects had been started and also presently working to implement VANETs in real world scenario. The main challenge in its implementation is to provide a secure mechanism against the various attacks and threats that have the capability to bring the network performance significantly down. In this paper to overcome different types of authentication based attacks in VANETs an ECDSA based secure routing protocol SE-AODV is proposed with security features incorporated in already existing AODV routing protocol. The performance of SE-AODV is evaluated and compared with original AODV and AODV with black hole attack (BH-AODV). The SE-AODV shows better performance with the parameters used for comparison with the variation in vehicle density, speed of vehicles and simulation time.

Vehicular ad-hoc networks or VANETs are a new method of training an ad-hoc network in traffic. The authors have numbers of routing algorithms on a MANET. But none of them works efficiently in a VANET with respect to being a safe and secure transport system. The authors have proposed a modification on an AODV routing algorithm for VANET with the introduction of the double-ended queue or dqAODV in a request packet header. A comparable good result was found in the throughput. In the present work, the authors introduce a modification of an original AODV by applying a partial re-broadcast of the request packet (RREQ) of an AODV. They found a comparable result in the throughput of the packet delivery aspect for this work with the original algorithm and dqAODV. This is compared to the complexity in the original AODV algorithm.

<p>Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are one of the most important types of networks which are widely used in recent years. Along with all the benefits of Quality of Service (QoS) improvements, vulnerability analysis for this type of networks is an important issue. For instance, a Gray-hole attack decreases network performance. We proposed a novel solution to help to secure these networks against this vulnerability. The proposed method can detect and prevent the Gray-hole attack. Anywhere in the network, each node (vehicle) can distinguish between the Gray-hole attack and the failed link. Some topology related information helps us to detect attacks more accurately. Also, the proposed method uses the most reliable path in terms of link failure when there is no malicious node. In this paper, we used the TOPSIS method for choosing the most trusted node for routing intelligently. We validated our proposal using a simulation model in the NS-2 simulator. Simulation results show that the proposed method can prevent Gray-hole attack efficiently with low overhead.</p>

In tactical ad-hoc networks, the importance of various tactical sensors and mission-critical data is increasing owing to their role in determining a tactical situation and ensuring the viability of soldiers. In particular, the reliability of mission-critical data has to be ensured for accurate situation determination and decision making. However, managing the network and trustworthiness in an environment where malicious nodes exist and a large amount of mission-critical data occur is a challenging issue. To solve these issues, a routing protocol is needed that can effectively detect malicious nodes and ensure the reliability and quality of service (QoS) of mission-critical data. In this paper, we propose a trust-based multipath QoS routing protocol (called MC_TQR) for tactical ad-hoc networks that can detect malicious nodes and satisfy the requirements of mission-critical data. The proposed scheme is verified using an OPNET simulator, and the results confirm the improved network performance when compared with existing schemes.

The high-speed dynamics of nodes and rapid change of network topology in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) pose significant challenges for the design of routing protocols. Because of the unpredictability of VANETs, selecting the appropriate next-hop relay node, which is related to the performance of the routing protocol, is a difficult task. As an effective solution for VANETs, geographic routing has received extensive attention in recent years. The Greedy Perimeter Coordinator Routing (GPCR) protocol is a widely adopted position-based routing protocol. In this paper, to improve the performance in sparse networks, the local optimum, and the routing loop in the GPCR protocol, the Weighted-GPCR (W-GPCR) protocol is proposed. Firstly, the relationship between vehicle node routing and other parameters, such as the Euclidean distance between node pairs, driving direction, and density, is analyzed. Secondly, the composite parameter weighted model is established and the calculation method is designed for the existing routing problems; the weighted parameter ratio is selected adaptively in different scenarios, so as to obtain the optimal next-hop relay node. In order to verify the performance of the W-GPCR method, the proposed method is compared with existing methods, such as the traditional Geographic Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) protocol and GPCR. Results show that this method is superior in terms of the package delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, and average hop count.
