Clinical Safety and Quality Management in Health IT

This chapter describes the principle risks that are associated with the supply of healthcare information systems, services, and technologies and the emerging best clinical safety and quality management practices that are being adopted by both users and suppliers in order to mitigate or remove these risks. It states that there are two principle sources of risk: one derived from the potential harm that could be caused to patients and users in a care environment and the other derived from possible failures to achieve the specifications and service levels demanded by a buyer. It argues that for a health IT supplier, implementing industry best practices in an effective way not only provides a high level of protection from both sources of risk but has in any event now become a minimum expectation on the part of users such as the NHS Connecting for Health programme. The chapter concludes that although quality, safety and performance standards in health IT still lag behind other, more established sectors of healthcare innovation—such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices—new standards for clinical safety and quality management are rapidly emerging, introducing a new dimension into informatics standardisation and substantially but necessarily raising the barriers to entry into the health IT market place.

This is a descriptive study which determined and analyzed the quality management practices of public secondary school heads. The study included the school heads and teachers in all Schools Division in Pangasinan. The identified quality management practicesare based on the parameters of APPES Manual. Kendall’s tau correlation coefficient was utilized to identify the significant relationship in the quality management practices of public secondary school heads to the performance of their respective schools. The researcher used questionnaire, interview and google form to gather the needed data. Same set of questionnaire was utilized for the teachers and school heads as respondents of this study. Findings of the study revealed that stakeholders were truly a great agent in improving the public secondary schools. Therefore, school heads must be eager to do this to have a strong partnership and participation of the stakeholders in the school. They contribute a lot for the direction leading to greater learning outcomes. Also, it was found out that weak correlation was hardly related to the quality management practices of the school heads with regard to the performance of their respective schools. Further, a proposed plan of action with regard to the indicators that were found out moderate would be presented to public secondary schools for them to better identify the risk and opportunities so to attain and maintain quality management practices of school heads and school perfomance in the Department of Education.

Performance is measured and done, the quality represents a key element to achieve the performance, especially customer service quality. In response to the pressure of globalization, the market increasingly competitive and volatile market dynamics that, many organizations actively seeking ways to add value to their services and improve their quality of service. Organizations usually tend to make their operations efficient priority. This process begins with the assessment of nevojave customers, their requirements and assessing the performance of domestic human resources in organization and performance depends on the outcome of the estimated earlier. Since this process can proceed in different directions. The causes of these results may be the lack of information and support of high-level management, performance standards unclear, inaccuracies assessors, very large number of forms to be completed and the use of software for the opposite purpose.

The purpose of this study was to explre the relationship between total quality management and firm performance, i.e. quality, business and organizational performance in Jordanian private airlines. The design of this study has a quantitative approach. Data was obtained by questionnaire instrument. The respondents of this study are all employees in quality department, maintenance department, human resource department, and operation department. The number of population was 480 employees. Random sampling was used in the study. 340 completed questionnaires were analyzed as a final sample. Three hypotheses have been developed through literature review and tested using descriptive statistical analysis performed by SPSS. The results show that total quality management practices have a positive and significant impact on business, quality, and organizational performance in Jordanian private airlines. The study reports that effective implementation of total quality management practices results in enhancing airline performance. The major limitation of this study is that the study asked for perceived data about actual TQM practices and performance measures, but the respondents might have given desired data, which made their companies sound good, most of the respondents were non managers and from different departments in addition to the quality department, who might not understand to answer the questions accurately. Another limitation was that business performance tenets were measured by using one question per each tenet. Future research may investigate those TQM practices and performance measures in another Jordanian industry.

Measurement of quality management practices (QMP) is one of requirements which should be emphasized by the organizations to be competitive in challenging market. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between quality management practices and performance in the manufacturing industry using constructs namely management commitment, quality tools, continuous improvement, process management, training and organisational performance. A framework was developed based on the literature review and assessed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS software used for modeling analysis. A total of 480 questionnaires were distributed, and 210 questionnaires were valid for analysis. The findings show significant relationship by the management commitment to process management and training. Also, training affects the quality tools, continuous improvement and process management. Similarly, quality tools influence on continuous improvement and process management. Furthermore process management affects the continuous improvement Next, continuous improvement gives impact to organisational performance. The results of the study can be used by managers in manufacturing companies to consider and adapt their QMPs and performance assessments toward increasing competitiveness.

Purpose This paper aims to present an analysis of the perception of performance management practices and transformations by investigating what devolved governments of Kenya are doing and ought to do after which the approaches of performance and performance management are evaluated. Design/methodology/approach A descriptive assessment of five devolved governments of Kenya is carried out. This study covered 518 respondents across the above-sampled governments. Findings The outcomes demonstrated that there are guidelines established by the counties to measure the performance of workers where tested variables about setting performance standards and performance review information against their effect on performance improvement and performance measurement, respectively, are statistically significant, and therefore have a positive impact on the eventual performance of devolved governments. Practical implications The results support scholars, practitioners and social scientists in development studies for the planning and management of public organizations. The thought of factors that enhance or impede devolved government workers’ performance can be explored in future research. Originality/value The thought of performance management perception, especially in a developing country, is a theoretical milestone.

This study aims to assess the perceived impact of Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) music students' engagement in music making outside school on their teaching. Fifty-one students training to become secondary school music teachers in England were asked to report on the perceived impact that their participation in music making outside school had on their lives during their training and on its expected impact as a qualified music teacher. They believed that being musically involved outside school has both personal and professional benefits for them as it has the potential to increase their anticipated job satisfaction as qualified teachers and help them become better teachers. They all expressed a desire to be involved in such musical activities as qualified music teachers because they felt that these can help them maintain their enthusiasm, be more confident and motivated, and keep their technique and performance standards to a high level.
