Applying CI in Biology through PSO

Conventional computing methods face challenges dealing with real world problems, which are characterised by noisy or incomplete data. To find solutions for such problems, natural systems have evolved over the years and on analysis it has been found these contain many simple elements when working together to solve real life complex problems. Swarm Intelligence (SI) is one of the techniques which is inspired by nature and is a population based algorithm motivated by the collective behaviour of a group of social insects. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is one of the techniques belonging to this group, used to solve some optimization problems. This chapter will discuss some of the problems existing in computational biology, their contemporary solution methods followed by the use of PSO to address those problems. Along with this several applications of PSO are discussed in few of the relevant fields are discussed having some future research directions on this field.

In recent years, the scientific community has begun to model and solve complex optimization problems using bio-inspired methods. Such problems cannot be solved exactly by traditional methods within a reasonable complexity in terms of computer capacities or computational times. However, bio-inspired methods provide near optimal solutions in realist conditions such as cost, capacity, and computational time. In this chapter, the authors propose a new population-based algorithm called the Bees Life Algorithm (BLA). It is applied to solve the cloud computing services selection with quality of service (QoS) requirements. It is considered as swarm-based algorithm, which closely imitates the life of the bee colony. It follows the two important behaviors in the nature of bees, reproduction and food foraging. Bees life algorithm can be applied to the combinatorial optimization problems as well as to the functional optimization problems. An experimental study has been conducted in order to demonstrate the performance and the efficiency of the proposal and its robustness. After comparisons with genetic algorithm (GA) as referential algorithm in this field, the obtained results showed the BLA performance and effectiveness. Finally, promising future research directions are examined to show the BLA usefulness for research in the cloud computing and computational intelligence areas.

Harmony search algorithm is the recently developed metaheuristic in the last decade. It mimics the behavior of a musician producing a perfect harmony. It has been used to solve the wide variety of real-life optimization problems due to its easy implementation over other metaheuristics. It has an ability to provide the balance between exploration and exploitation during search. In this paper, a systematic review on harmony search algorithm (HSA) is presented. The natural inspiration and conceptual framework of HSA are discussed. The control parameters of HSA are described with their mathematical foundation. The improvement and hybridization in HSA with other metaheuristics are discussed in detail. The applicability of HSA in different problem domains is studied. The future research directions of HSA are also investigated.

Management from Islamic Perspectives (MIP) is an emerging field that has begun to attract scholarly attention. However, the research undertaken so far has been rather fragmented and lack a clear agenda. This paper presents a literature review of the field and the areas of current focus. Although the field has a huge growth potential, I argue that it faces several challenges and problems as it develops further. I outline these potential pitfalls, suggest how to develop MIP as a formal discipline, and explain how to integrate it within real-life business practices. The article closes with a call for research to be conducted in a more organized fashion through an international consortium of researchers as well as recommendations for future research directions.

AbstractThe global collaboration and integration of online and offline channels have brought new challenges to the logistics industry. Thus, smart logistics has become a promising solution for handling the increasing complexity and volume of logistics operations. Technologies, such as the Internet of Things, information communication technology, and artificial intelligence, enable more efficient functions into logistics operations. However, they also change the narrative of logistics management. Scholars in the areas of engineering, logistics, transportation, and management are attracted by this revolution. Operations management research on smart logistics mainly concerns the application of underlying technologies, business logic, operation framework, related management system, and optimization problems under specific scenarios. To explore these studies, the related literature has been systematically reviewed in this work. On the basis of the research gaps and the needs of industrial practices, future research directions in this field are also proposed.

AbstractThis study presents the modeling of the multiobjective optimization problem in an intuitionistic fuzzy environment. The uncertain parameters are depicted as intuitionistic fuzzy numbers, and the crisp version is obtained using the ranking function method. Also, we have developed a novel interactive neutrosophic programming approach to solve multiobjective optimization problems. The proposed method involves neutral thoughts while making decisions. Furthermore, various sorts of membership functions are also depicted for the marginal evaluation of each objective simultaneously. The different numerical examples are presented to show the performances of the proposed solution approach. A case study of the cloud computing pricing problem is also addressed to reveal the real-life applications. The practical implication of the current study is also discussed efficiently. Finally, conclusions and future research scope are suggested based on the proposed work.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of crowd events must facilitate physical distancing in environments where attendees previously enjoyed being close with ingroup members, encourage accurate perception of health risks and close adherence to safety guidance, and stop expected normative behaviors that may now be unsafe. Research from crowd psychology demonstrates how group processes are integral to each of these issues. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has created an extreme case environment in which to evaluate the collective findings from previous research and identify future research directions. This paper outlines how organizers of crowd events and researchers can work together to further develop our understanding of social connectedness in crowds, reasons for risk-taking behavior, and level of engagement in new collective behaviors. By working together to address these issues, practitioners and researchers can develop our understanding of crowd processes and improve safety at future crowd events.

This article addresses the 3-dimensional mixed intuitionistic fuzzy assignment problems (3D-MIFAPs). In this article, firstly, the author formulates an assignment problem (AP) and assumes the parameters are in uncertainty with hesitation. Secondly, based on the nature of the parameter the author defines various types of solid assignment problem (SAP) in uncertain environment. Thirdly, to solve 3D-MIFAP the PSK method for finding an optimal solution of fully intuitionistic fuzzy assignment problem (FIFAP) is extended by the author. Fourthly, the author presents the proofs of the proposed theorems and corollary. Fifthly, the proposed approach is illustrated with three numerical examples and the optimal objective value of 3D-MIFAP is obtained in the form of intuitionistic fuzzy number and the solution is checked with MATLAB and their coding are also given by the author. Sixthly, the author presents the comparison results and their graphical representation, merits and demerits of the proposed and existing methods and finally the author presents conclusion and future research directions.
