Electronic commerce (e-Commerce) has exploded on the Internet over the past few years and is expected to continue growing at an exponential rate (Kannan, Chang and Whinston, 1998; Fellenstein and Wood, 2000). According to the GVU’s 8th WWW User Surveys (1997), the most important issues facing online users are privacy (31%), censorship (24%) and navigation (17%). Since user interface design directly impacts navigation and affects the user’s interaction with a Web site, this chapter will explore a number of different factors that affect user interface design on the World Wide Web. In all there are six factors that we explore in this chapter. They are the user’s mental model as newly defined and focused upon perception and conception (Haynes and Mahfouz, 2001), the level of expertise of the user, the user’s learning style, the richness of the media used, the organizational image and message, and the user’s intentions. All these factors involve internal (to the Web page design) and external (to the user’s environment) implications that impact user interface design on the Internet. Since all factors are external with the exception of the richness of the media used and, to some extent, the organizational image and message, it follows that we have chosen to emphasize in this chapter the external factors, namely those factors that directly relate to the user.

The study aims to describe the guidelines to support user interface design for develop technology centered in the specific learning style, abilities and needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This research study describes the conclusions drawn following a process of interactive design of software, ASD Module, In-TIC PC. Four groups of participants were involved in the process: specialists with experience in the intervention with people with ASD, specialists with experience in the development and design of technology for people with disability, children with ASD and their families (n = 39). The techniques used to formalize the collection of information from different groups of participants were observation, interview, group discussions and a questionnaire. The results of the study target the development of a design guide that includes the evidence, the basic ideas and suggestions deduced from the design and development process of the ASD Module. This translates into a list of rules with suggestions to consider in the design and adaptation of technology for children with ASD. These guidelines of interface design provide useful information for researchers, developers, social and healthcare professionals and families, with the aim of offering alternatives for children with ASD and facilitating the understanding of daily life.

AbstractWebsite is an integrated media delivery of information provided through the Internet network so that it can be accessed by anyone and anywhere very easily. The utilization of the website not only in small and large commercial companies but also in educational institutions in this case is the University of Sriwijaya, its own website has been very rapidly growing from User Interface sessions to feature features provided which progressively grows to follow the needs of the User. In this study the authors conducted an analysis on the Website of Sriwijaya University to measure the feasibility of User Interface on the website by using UCD method (User centered Design). UCD is a user interface design process that focuses on interface, accessibility, and Usefulness in user interface design that involves the user as the center of the process by providing input or assessment in the form of questionnaire. The final result of this study is the User Interface assessment of the UNSRI website (Sriwijaya University) conducted by the user. And from the results of this study found that 43.8% of students expressed satisfaction on the Interface of the UNSRI’s website.  Keywords: UCD, User Interface, User Centered Design, website.
