A large amount of surveillance videos and images need sufficient storage. In this article, an architecture of cloud-based surveillance systems and its modules will be designed, the Cloud-based Visual Surveillance System (CVSS) will be implemented on a private cloud using a Virtual Machine (VM). The users are able to link their cameras to the CVSS system so that the goal of this design can be achieved. The authors' CVSS system is able to push notification messages of captured videos to receivers, and their users could receive a surveillance video along with its events. The CVSS system fully makes use of the merits of cloud computing, which make it more advanced as stated in the evaluation section of this article. The contributions of this article are to be implemented in the CVSS system with: (1) video stream input, (2) intelligent visual surveillance, (3) real-time video transcoding and storage, (4) message pushing and media streaming output.

Even though public cloud providers already exist and offer computing and storage services, cloud computing is still a buzzword for scientists in various fields such as engineering, finance, social sciences, etc. These technologies are currently mature enough to leave the experimental laboratory in order to be used in real-life scenarios. To this end, the authors consider that the prime example use case of cloud computing is a web hosting service. This paper presents the architectural approach as well as the technical solution for applying elastic web hosting onto a private cloud infrastructure using only free software. Through several available software applications and tools, anyone can build their own private cloud on top of a local infrastructure and benefit from the dynamicity and scalability provided by the cloud approach.

Fog computing is an extension of cloud computing, and it is one of the most important architypes in the current world. Fog computing is like cloud computing as it provides data storage, computation, processing, and application services to end-users. In this chapter, the authors discuss the security and privacy issues concerned with fog computing. The issues present in cloud are also inherited by fog computing, but the same methods available for cloud computing are not applicable to fog computing due to its decentralized nature. The authors also discuss a few real-time applications like healthcare systems, intelligent food traceability, surveillance video stream processing, collection, and pre-processing of speech data. Finally, the concept of decoy technique and intrusion detection and prevention technique is covered.

Cloud computing is an effective approach for organizing computing resource and improving computing capability. In this paper, we designed and contstucted a private cloud computing platform based on ubuntu enterprise cloud. The cloud computing platform supports various clients dynamicly connet to cloud server and get cloud computing service via interface platform provided. Various kinds of virtual machine instance of different settings running on physical servers provide users computing and storage capability on demand. A series of high level functions guarantee computing service provision of platform.

Cloud-based video surveillance systems, as a new cloud computing service model, are an emerging research topic, both at home and abroad. Current research is mainly focused on exploring applications of the system. This paper proposes a design and implementation method for cloud-based video surveillance systems using the characteristics of cloud computing, such as parallel computing, large storage space, and easy expandability. The system architecture and function modules are built, and a prototype cloud-based video surveillance system is established in a campus network using key technologies, including virtual machine task access control, video-data distributed storage, and database-active communicationmethods. Using the system, the user is able to place a webcam in a location that requires monitoring so that video surveillance can be achieved, and video data can be viewed through a browser. The system has the following advantages: low investment and maintenance cost, high portability, easily extendable, superior data security, and excellent sharing. As a private cloud server in the campus network, the system is able to not only provide convenient video surveillance services, but it can also be an excellent practical experimental platform for cloud computing-related research, which carries outstanding application value.

Video surveillance is one of the most active research topics in the computer vision due to the increasing need for security. Although surveillance systems are getting cheaper, the cost of having human operators to monitor the video feed can be very expensive and inefficient. To overcome this problem, the automated visual surveillance system can be used to detect any suspicious activities that require immediate action. The framework of a video surveillance system encompasses a large scope in machine vision, they are background modelling, object detection, moving objects classification, tracking, motion analysis, and require fusion of information from the camera networks. This paper reviews recent techniques used by researchers for detection of moving object detection and tracking in order to solve many surveillance problems. The features and algorithms used for modelling the object appearance and tracking multiple objects in outdoor and indoor environment are also reviewed in this paper. This paper summarizes the recent works done by previous researchers in moving objects tracking for single camera view and multiple cameras views. Nevertheless, despite of the recent progress in surveillance technologies, there still are challenges that need to be solved before the system can come out with a reliable automated video surveillance.

In recent years, everyday objects and locating of people become an active area in IoT-based visual surveillance system. Internet of things (IoT) is basically transferring data with numerous other things. In visual surveillance systems, conventional methods are very easily susceptible to the environmental changes (i.e., illumination changing, slow motion in the background due to waving tree leaves, rippling of water, and variation in lightening condition). This chapter describes the current challenging issues present in literature along with major application areas, resources and dataset, tools and advantages of IoT-based visual surveillance systems.

Visual surveillance in dynamic scenes is currently one of the most active research topics in computer vision, many existing applications are available. However, difficulties in realizing effective video surveillance systems that are robust to the many different conditions that arise in real environments, make the actual deployment of such systems very challenging. In this article, we present a real, unique and pioneer video surveillance system for boat traffic monitoring, ARGOS. The system runs continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, day and night in the city of Venice (Italy) since 2007 and it is able to build a reliable background model of the water channel and to track the boats navigating the channel with good accuracy in real-time. A significant experimental evaluation, reported in this article, has been performed in order to assess the real performance of the system.

Abstract Automated and intelligent video surveillance systems play important role in the modern world. Since the amount of various video streams that must be analyzed grows, such artificial intelligence systems can assist humans in performing tiresome tasks. As a result, the effectiveness of response to a dangerous situations is increasing (detect unexpected movement or unusual behavior that may pose a threat to people, property and infrastructure). Video surveillance systems have to meet several requirements: must be accurate and not produce too many false alarms, moreover it must be able to process the received video stream in real-time to provide a sufficient response time. The work presented here focuses on the selected challenges of scene analysis in video surveillance systems (object detection/tracking, effectiveness of the whole system). The aim of the research is to design a low-budget surveillance system, that can be used for example in a home security monitoring. Such solution can be use not only to surveillance but also to monitor elderly person at home or provide new ways of interacting in human-computer interaction systems.
