Information retrieval systems built with a service-oriented architecture have numerous advantages, and portlets are a key technology to implement services which interact with each other in the presentation layer. This work presents an efficient approach for the communication between the components of an information retrieval system based on multiple portlets in a single user interface. It also presents the architecture and the main methods of the system implemented as a case of use for this approach. It is shown that the proposed solution yields the best inter-portlet communication mechanism in each situation, while possessing the ability to deliver aggregated search and superior user experience.

Information retrieval is the activity to organize information in a certain way, and according to the users demand to find out the related information from a collection of resources. Retrieval process and technology can be based on metadata or full-text indexing. Most of the relevant information retrieval systems are devised on the computer. However, with the highly development of the embedded technology, some popular application have been developed on the platform. In this paper, we will introduce an information retrieval system on the iOS platform which is more convenient, practical, and effective compared with the traditional system. And we will introduce an application based on this system design. The experiments shown that this system was exactly effective utilized to retrieval audio information.

In this paper, the authors propose a method for lexical enrichment of Arabic queries in order to improve the performance of the information retrieval systems SRI. This method has two types of enrichment: linguistic and contextual. The first one is based on the linguistic analysis (lemmatization, morphological, syntactic and semantic analysis), whose goal is to generate a descriptive list (list-desc). This list contains a set of linguistic lexicon assigned to each significant term in the query. The second enrichment consists in integrating contextual information derived from the corpus documents. It is based on statistical analysis using Salton weighting functions: TF-IDF and TF-IEF. The TF-IDF function is applied on the list-desc and documents in the corpus in order to identify relevant documents. TF-IEF function is made between the list-desc and sentences belonging to the relevant documents to identify relevant sentences. Then, terms in these sentences are weighted, and those with highest weights are considered rich in terms of informative and contextual importance are added to the original query. The authors' lexical enrichment method was evaluated on a corpus of documents belonging to a specialized domain and results show its interest in terms of precision and recall.

<p><span>Stemmer is used for reducing inflectional or derived word to its stem. This technique involves removing the suffix or prefix affixed in a word. It can be used for information retrieval system to refine the overall execution of the retrieval process. This process is not equivalent to morphological analysis. This process only finds the stem of a word. This technique decreases the number of terms in information retrieval system. There are various techniques exists for stemming. In this paper, a new web-based stemmer has been proposed named as “Mula” for Odia Language. It uses the Hybrid approach (i.e. combination of brute force and suffix removal approach) for Odia language. The new born stemmer is both computationally faster and domain independent. The results are favourable and indicate that the proposed stemmer can be used effectively in Odia Information Retrieval systems. This stemmer also handles the problem of over-stemming and under-stemming in some extend.</span></p>

Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) have dramatically changed the ways how people acquire information for their need. Information Retrieval (IR) enables user to find relevant document from collection of countless resources. This article presents an overview of IRS. Objectives of this article is to answer all the basic and specific questions related to IRS. In contrast to other review papers, the authors provide a complete understanding of IR in single paper. Starting from definition and importance it covers retrieval process, performance issues, and comparison among various approaches. This article also includes description of different models along with analysis of their merits and demerits. This article proposes a list of challenges, still unanswered by existing systems. Before offering a conclusion, the major applications of IR are also listed.

This short review discusses the outcomes of the 3 rd Workshop of the International and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Children & Recommender and Information Retrieval Systems (KidRec 2019) , co-located with the 2019 ACM Interaction Design and Children (IDC) Conference, which took place June 12-15 in Boise, Idaho, USA. The goal for the workshop was to explore the characteristics of a "good" information retrieval system for children. The diversity of attendees - including industry representatives, undergraduate and graduate students, and senior scholars in various areas of computer science - made it possible to continue to build community around this important topic and further discuss and outline the salient concerns and the next steps to promote further exploration in this area.

The search for information is one of the main components of human activity. The ideal information retrieval system should issue only documents that are relevant to the request. Today, real information retrieval systems provide a completeness factor of 70%, and a search accuracy factor – at a level sometimes even 10%. Thus, the well-known information retrieval systems are currently unable to meet the modern needs of users. The global trend in the processing of large arrays of information, which allows you to solve new classes of problems based on available information resources, is the intellectualization of information and data processing. As a standard of knowledge engineering in the development of information retrieval systems, it is worthwhile to use ontologies that are widely used in the work of search engines and information retrieval systems, as ontologies are an effective tool for organizing a semantic search. The use of ontologies as part of information retrieval systems helps to solve a number of methodological and technological problems that arise during the development of such systems. Given the fact that software is the basis of all modern areas of business, and achieving high values of its quality is a key factor in ensuring the effective use of software and one of the main requirements of users and stakeholders for modern software, the purpose of this study is to develop an effective information retrieval system (based on ontologies) for the software quality industry. The paper proposes the concept of information retrieval system (based on ontologies) for the field of software quality, in particular, the ontology of the subject area of software quality is developed, which reflects the semantic relationships between the concepts of the subject area and will form the basis of a search of information about software quality, in particular, the basis of the thesaurus of the future information retrieval system.

Today's digital library is a necessity. A system that provides all-digital information and services requires that all aspects of it should be accessed effectively. In the context of information retrieval in digital libraries, the information retrieval systems are important instruments. The system becomes a link between relevant information and its users. Evaluation of the information retrieval system to determine its effectiveness is important to ensure that users receive good retrieval services. Recall and precision are approaches to measure the effectiveness of information retrieval systems that are widely used. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the ISI Yogyakarta digital library retrieval system based on recall and precision approaches. This study will provide benefits for librarians in knowing the effectiveness of the information retrieval system and the extent of their accuracy in indexing. This research uses an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The researcher chose a sample of the searching keywords purposively and then tested them by searching on the portal http://digilib.isi.ac.id/. The data obtained were analyzed using the formula recall and precision. In this study the subjects tested were interior design subjects. The precision measurement of 10 keywords on the subject of interior design gets 92.37% results while the recall measurement gets 80.79% results. The result stated that precision is higher than recall, it showed that the information retrieval system of ISI Yogyakarta’s digital library is quite effective.

Nowadays, different types of content in different languages are available on World Wide Web and their usage is increasing rapidly. Cross Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) deals with retrieval of documents in another language than the language of the requested query. Various researchers worked on Cross Language Information Retrieval systems for Indian languages using different translation approaches. There is still CLIR system to be developed which allow user to retrieve Marathi documents when English query is given. In the proposed English to Marathi Cross Language Information Retrieval system, translation is based on query translation approach. The proposed system retrieves Marathi documents depending on matching terms in query. The performance of the proposed system is improved by query pre-processing and query expansion using WordNet.

The paper proposes the concept of an information retrieval system (based on ontologies) for the field of medical law, which consists of: an internal ontology of semantic search, which will contain knowledge about the basic elements of the search process; taxonomies of information objects, information about which the user is looking for (this taxonomy will integrate existing ontologies of multimedia information resources, Web-services, and organizational structures); ontologies of the subject area, which will be used for the accumulation of knowledge, as well as for the construction of thesauri, dictionaries, taxonomies; linguistic ontologies designed for semantic analysis of natural information resources.

In this paper we explore issues surrounding the design of systems that will effectively support community information seeking and use. We discuss the need for information retrieval systems to move away for the single user paradigm to one that recognizes the collaborative nature of information seeking and use. We also examine the collaborative information retrieval literature and derive implications for community informatics. The paper also explores the unique challenges of designing systems to support information seeking and use in a community context, and attempts to provide design guidelines that will enable researchers and practitioners to develop such systems.
