Experimental Research on the Liquefaction Potential of Tailings Silt in Zhuziqing Tailings Dam

The particle composition, physical and mechanical properties of tailings silt in Zhuziqing tailings dam were tested by means of field survey and lab test. And the liquefaction potential of tailings silt in Zhuziqing tailings dam were investigated based on field-performance data using standard penetration test (SPT) and wave velocity test (WVT) methods. Results show that the liquefaction potential of tailings silt in Zhuziqing tailings dam can be evaluated by means of SPT and WVT. Results also show that there is almost non liquefaction at the places in Zhuziqing tailings dam where are under the seventh sub-dam, and there is serious liquefaction in the new sub-dam and deposited beach, which locate at the places above the eleventh sub-dam.

In this paper, it has been studied that types and mechanical properties of tailings silt in Zhuziqing tailings dam based on the Zhuziqing tailings’ deposition characteristics, particles size distribution test, physical and mechanical properties test. Then it has been studied subsequently by the dynamic triaxial test, wave velocity test and standard penetration test for tailings silt that the dynamic characteristics, dynamic strength and vibration liquefaction of the tailing silt. Results show that the tailings silt in tailings pond is graded well. Under the condition of isotropic or anisotropic consolidation, dynamic shear modulus of tailings silt increase as the dynamic shear strain decreasing and increase as the increase of confining pressure or consolidation ratio. But the variation law on damping ratio of tailings silt is just opposite to that of dynamic shear modulus. Results also show that there is more liquefied possibility over the seventh sub-dam in the tailings dam, and the liquefied possibility position locates at the place from new sub-dam to deposited beach in tailing pond.

Nowdays, Alumunium is widely used and utilized in industrial activities because of light properties and having well mechanical strengths. The use of alumunium does not only limit on the use of new alumunium, but also the used one. The main purpose of this research, i.e., (1) testing of physical and mechanical properties of Al-Zn7 from the fussion of Crucible furnace; (2) analyzing crucible furnace of the Al-Zn7 fussion by comparing to the result of the first and second fussion. The method of this research was experimental research with the average value of each the first casting was 49,2 HRB and the second one was 50,3 HRB. Based on the test result showed that the quality of crucible furnace was good because it did not experience the significant changes.

The centrifugal model test system is utilized to reappear the breaching process of a tailings dam. The results show that there are significant differences in breaching processes between tailings dams and earth-rockfill dams. Influenced by the special physical and mechanical properties of tailings, the breaching processes of tailings dams are of short duration, and the flood flow through the breach increase rapidly. Based on the centrifugal test results, considering the special physical and mechanical properties of tailings, a mathematical model for tailings dam breaching is established. In the model, the vertical undercutting and horizontal expansion are simulated utilizing the erosion rate formula which is derived from shear stress principle of water flow; limit equilibrium method is used to analyze the breach slope stability. In addition, the model adopts iterative calculation method to simulate the whole breaching process. The analysis results show that, the proposed model is applicable in modeling the dam breaching process for tailings dam due to overtopping.

AbstractTunnel water burst is among the common severe geological hazards in deep buried tunnel projects in China and throughout the world. Asphalt grouting is an effective method to block seepage channels in macroporous strata under the condition of flowing water, but it has defects such as a high heating temperature, complex high-temperature construction technology, and poor controllability during the grouting process. A type of “water-in-oil” low-thermal asphalt was developed in this study. It can cool and solidify and not be diluted when encountering water, and its construction temperature can be below 80°C. Experimental research on the physical and mechanical properties of the low-thermal asphalt leakage-blocking material was completed, including proportion experiments, fluidity, sensitivity to temperature, one- and two-dimensional indoor diffusion experiments, and impact experiments, which presented its physical and mechanical properties and can provide guidance for the application of the material in site projects.

With the same recipe and technological conditions, experimental research on fill factor about rubber compound of all-steel radial tire was conducted in four types of X(S)M-1.7L mixers: intermeshing rotor mixer, variable intermeshing clearance mixer, shearing rotor mixer and variable shearing clearance mixer. Based on the summary and analysis of experiments, the authors discussed the influence of fill factor on performance of internal mixers and physical and mechanical properties of the rubber compound. And the optimal values of fill factor of different types mixer were determined.
