Dielectric properties of materials play a significant role in design of microwave assisted processing system. This paper is focused on the dielectric properties of ε-caprolactone (ε-cap) which is the monomer for the biodegradable polymer, Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL). The dielectric properties of ε-cap were measured across a wide range of frequencies (0.1 GHz5.0 GHz) and temperatures (20-150oC). Then the measured dielectric properties data was modelled using Debye model in order to relate quantitatively the dielectric properties to microwave heating mechanisms. The analysis carried out gives a clear picture of interaction of ε-cap with microwave energy and its heating mechanism in microwave assisted polymerisation process. This study concluded that microwave heating mechanism of the ε-cap in the measured range may be dominated by the dipole reorientation.

In the present study, the structure evolution under direct reduction of a Minh-Son magnetite iron ore/carbon composite pellets in a microwave-heating kiln under different microwave wattage of 60 and 90 % (with the firing time from 15 to 120 min.) was investigated. The microstructure of the pellets was characterized by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The phase formation was indexed using MDI Jade from the peaks matching the reference sample. At the microwave’s wattage of 60 %: the wustite (FeO) has appeared after firing time of 60 min., the metallic iron and fayalite have appeared in the reduced samples after firing time of 90 min. to 120 min. with retained phases of Fe203, Fe304, FeO and Si02– While at the microwave’s wattage of 90 %, the metallic iron has appeared in the reduced samples after firing time of 30 min. to 120 min and fayalite has appeared in the reduced samples after firing time of 60 min. to 120 min. The final reduced pellet, under microwave’s wattage of 90 % and firing time of 120 min., shows the only phases of metallic iron and fayalite according to the XRD resolution. The present work could provide a scientific understanding to illustrate iron ore/carbon composite pellet behavior during solid-state carbothermic reduction under a microwave-heating.

AbstractGypsophila perfoliata L. is a maritime sand-dune species naturally occurring in Asia and southeastern Europe. In Europe it also is found in ruderal habitats rarely, mainly along railway lines. In Poland the species was first recorded in the 1950s; it was found only at railway stations where iron ore was offloaded from the Kryvyi Rih region, Ukraine. Recently it was found in a new type of habitat: the roadside of a main road in the Carpathians. The paper characterizes the current status, distribution and habitat spectrum of this alien species in Poland.
