AbstractGypsophila perfoliata L. is a maritime sand-dune species naturally occurring in Asia and southeastern Europe. In Europe it also is found in ruderal habitats rarely, mainly along railway lines. In Poland the species was first recorded in the 1950s; it was found only at railway stations where iron ore was offloaded from the Kryvyi Rih region, Ukraine. Recently it was found in a new type of habitat: the roadside of a main road in the Carpathians. The paper characterizes the current status, distribution and habitat spectrum of this alien species in Poland.

Food Packaging material requires an excellent barrier ability to humidity and oxygen.SiOx barrier thin film deposited on high polymer substrate can compare beauty with aluminum foil in the barrier quality, even more SiOx barrier thin film is obviously allowing microwave permeating directly and it also provide a chance for merchant to vision their production in shelf life.SiOx film as barrier packaging material is becoming a high light. The current status and research progress of new type high barrier thin film packaging material were overviewed and production technology was introduced. The various influencing factors were discussed, including background vacuum, reactive gases, and pretreatment of the substrate surface and properties.

Blood transfusion therapy is often under-utilised in feline practice in South Africa. However, it is a technique that can be safely and effectively introduced in practice. Cats have naturally occurring allo-antibodies against the blood type that they lack, which makes blood typing, or alternatively cross-matching, essential before transfusions. Feline blood donors must be carefully selected, be disease free and should be sedated before blood collection. The preferred anticoagulant for feline blood collection is citrate-phosphatedextrose-adenine. Blood can either be administered intravenously or into the medullary cavity, with the transfusion rate depending on the cat's hydration status and cardiac function. Transfusion reactions can be immediate or delayed and they are classified as immunological or non-immunological. Indications, methods and techniques to do feline blood transfusions in a safe and economical way are highlighted.

The role of rivers and streams in the migration of alien plants into the Polish CarpathiansThe Carpathians are among the regions of Poland that are generally less susceptible to invasive alien plants. The factor limiting the spread of the species of this group is, above all, the mountain climate. Even species originating from other mountain regions, e.g. the HimalayanImpatiens glandulifera, have their localities only at low elevations, in the Carpathian foothills. In most cases, alien plant species migrate into the Carpathians from the lowlands. The river valleys provide the migration corridors used by alien species in the course of their progress into new territories of the upper mountain localities. The situation along some mountain rivers, where invasive alien species dominate the native vegetation, is dramatic. Their spread is facilitated not only by easy diaspore transport but also by some anthropogenic factors, such as, river engineering and the transformation of riparian habitats and progressing devastation. Currently, we can observe some invasive alien plants "in statu nascendi", developing a new, secondary range in the Carpathians (e.g.Chaerophyllum aureum) or at the foothills, along the Wisła (Vistula) and San river valleys (e.g.Eragrostis albensis). For some species, cities were the destination for the first stage of future migration, e.g.Acer negundo. In the Carpathians, where many national parks and nature reserves are located, the continuous monitoring of the spread of invasive alien plants should be one of the principal activities of botanists.

Focusing on the current urban environmental sanitation facilities, this paper analyzes the current status of environmental sanitation facilities. Combining with various objects and life patterns in daily life, it discusses about the wide application of landscape environmental sanitation facilities in real life and particularly studies the landscape property of garbage containers. The advanced technologies are employed in the garbage disposal containers to design the environment-friendly, green and energy-saving new-type landscape environmental sanitation facilities. Moreover, it points out the significance of creating new technology and new concept in the urban landscape facilities, and adopts the innovative idea and new concept to realize the harmonious and wonderful human settlement.

Geomechanics model test can simulate the real excavation process of geotechnical engineering and the mechanics deformation properties of the rockmass prototype on the condition of meeting the similar principles. In order to conducting geomechanics model test, similar material which can meet similar mechanical properties must be used. It is only after conducting a massive mechanics experiments that a new-type similar materials called iron crystal sand is developed in this paper. This material consists of iron ore powder, blanc fix, quartz sand, gypsum powder and rosin alcohol solution which are evenly mixed in certain proportion and pressed together. The iron ore powder, blanc fix and quartz sand among them are main materials. The rosin alcohol solution is the cementing agent and gypsum powder the regulator. The material mechanics experiments show that this material has following outstanding characteristics: high volume-weight, wide variable mechanical parameters, stable performance, low price, quick drying, simple processing and innocuity. It can simulate most rockmass material from soft to hard ones and can be widely used in geomechanics model tests in fields of energy sources, transportation, water conservancy and mining.

Iridescent colours have been fascinating to humans throughout history; they are flashy, shimmering, dynamic, and examples surround us, from the commonly seen iridescent sheen of oily street puddles to the exotic, gaudy displays of birds-of-paradise featured in nature documentaries. Iridescent colours and the structures that produce them have unique properties in comparison with other types of colourants found in nature. Scientists from a variety of disciplines study the optics, development, heritability, chemical make-up, origin, evolution, functions and biomimetic technological applications of naturally occurring iridescent colours. For the first time, graduate students at Arizona State University brought together these scientists, along with educators and artists, at ‘Iridescence: more than meets the eye’, a conference to promote interdisciplinary communication and collaboration in the study of iridescent coloration from all of these perspectives. Here, we summarize the outcomes of this conference, introduce the papers that follow in this special journal issue and briefly review the current status of our understanding of iridescence.
