The distribution grid communication network is an important part of electric power communication system. But it has became a limit of distribution network for the absence of effective communication method. This paper first introduces the characteristic and information requirement of smart distribution network, then makes a deep research and comparison on the communication technology such as PONWireless Network and PLC. Finally it presents a technology application scheme and system structure of distribution communication network.

This paper proposes a general overview of distribution network automation technology. With the continuous development of society and economy, the distribution network automation has become the trend and developing direction of electric power system. As the end part of the electric power system, the distribution network is directly connected to the consumers and plays a vital role in improving the quality and reliability of power supply. In order to provide reference for improving the reliability of distribution network and to speed up the development of distribution network automation, this paper analyses the system structure, development status and trend of distribution network automation technology.

Increasing distributed generation and intermittency, along with the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, impose a serious challenge for the electric power supply security. Understanding the costs of interruption is vital in terms of enhancing the power system infrastructure and planning the distribution grid. On the other hand, customer rights and demand response techniques are further reasons to study the worth of power reliability. In this paper, the authors make use of directional distance function and shadow pricing method for a case study from Finland. The aim is to calculate the cost of one minute of power interruption from the distribution network operator perspective. The sample consists of 78 distribution network operators from Finland with cost and network information between 2013 and 2015.

Electric power should deliver a predicable per condition for the technological, economic, and political development of any countries and it is vital for each individual. Power outage is series problem in Ethiopia at the hole of distribution network. This is due to frequent interruptions and much time service restoration. That is why most customers of Ethiopia have their day-to-day activities highly affected and they are strongly complaining to Ethiopia electric utility daily. But this power outage affected customer cost and the Ethiopian utility. In most developing countries including Ethiopia, distribution systems have received considerably less of the attention to reliability modeling and evaluation than have generating and transmitting systems. Life is directly or indirectly dependent on electric power so a utility should deliver reliable power every day for 24 hours and each year for 8,760 hours to satisfy human needs and to perform their works as much as possible with less economy.

With the development of communication technology, the increasing scale of power communication network is bigger and bigger. Based on the important significance of electric power communication network to establish an alarm information acquisition system is necessary. CORBA, as a distributed processing environment interconnect solutions in hardware and software, is widely used in the field of network management for its high versatility. In this paper we use real-time CORBA platform TAO as a network management platform to develop a kind of electric power communication network alarm acquisition system.

Aided equipment statistics & analysis platform can solve several problems for electric power communication equipment statistics, such as, large amount of statistics, long cycle of analysis, low degree of automation and low level of intelligent evaluation. The statistics & analysis model of communication equipment with the features of advanced, safe and efficient, allows for rapid response to dynamic altering of the network traffic and the equipment operation state, as well as the comprehensive analysis of evaluation index. So the operational status of communication equipment and the health status of communication network can be reflected scientifically. Scientific analysis and effective assessment on forecasting and diagnosing the network will help make an intelligent analysis on the weak link of communication network, which can also obtain reasonable optimization of network system structure, eliminate the hidden danger and provide a guidance for the planning and readjustment on next year’s operation mode. It also seeks to establish an analysis & design system for electric power communication equipment, which can solve the problem of equipment analysis and design. And the system would meet the growing demand of power communication operation in Smart Grid.
