Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) has attracted lots of research efforts these years, mainly due to its appealing applications in no infrastructure situations such as battle fields and disaster recovery operations [1]. In this paper, we explore wireless Ad Hoc network focusing on its Routing Protocol AODV, we in depth analyze its operation principles and the problems exist in AODV routing protocol. AODV routing protocol is vulnerable, it is always exposed to many attacks, such as DoS, black hole, etc. [2] Through exhaustive researching the behaviors of black hole attack in NS2 simulation platform, and we finally propose a new routing security strategy to defense the black hole attack in AODV. Simulation results show that the strategy we proposed can not only effectively defense the black hole nodes, but also has better routing performance for moderate or small scale Ad Hoc Networks.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are upcoming prominent technology in the field of communication with vehicles. It is a combination of mobile and sensor network features. The random change in position of vehicles in VANET made the system more vulnerable to attacks. The most important attack in VANETs to be considered is Black hole attack which increases the chances for packet loss and in turn to accidents. There is a necessity to develop the techniques to detect Black hole attacks and reduce number of accidents. In this paper, a technique called “Detection of Black hole in VANET using AODV (DBVANETuAODV)” is proposed to find and prevent Black hole attack and thereby reducing occurrence of accidents. The proposed solution is implemented using AODV Routing protocol in VANET.The experiments are conducted with SUMO and NS2 simulators to depict network environment in an inexpensive way. The proposed method “DBVANETuAODV” is compared with AODV with black hole and the result shows the proposed method provides a significant improvement.

With the advancement of wireless technologies, Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) has been an important field of study. MANETs find useful applications in the real world, for example in military battlefield and disaster management. Since MANET is dynamic in nature, it must be represented by dynamic graph. Evolving graph, a form of dynamic graph, may be used for the purpose. When we talk about a network, a routing protocol comes into the question, and one of the most popular routing protocols is AODV. However, since AODV suffers from a drawback that it may be a victim of black hole attack, we need to find a technique to eliminate the possibility of the phenomenon. This paper makes a study of MANET and an efficient way of representing MANET by dynamic graph. It explains the AODV routing technique and the black hole attack. It then extends the idea of dynamic graph to propose a technique to solve the problem of black hole attack in AODV.

The security of the data which is transferred from source to destination is of prime importance in the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) or any kind of network to be very precise. If the data gets lost then the entire purpose of deploying and creating the network fails. Mobile ad hoc networks suffer from various attacks out of which black hole attack is considered the most dangerous one because in this attack the venomous node release all the packets received by it. The authors in EAODV has used the concept of fake route request packets to identify the black hole nodes in the grid. The proposed technique detects the malicious black hole node using the sequence numbers. The performance of the network has been examined based on end to end delay, packet delivery ratio, detection time, throughput and remaining energy. These parameters have shown improvement over the existing scheme.

Security is a vital requirement in mobile ad hoc networks to provide secured communication among mobile nodes. Due to different characteristics of MANETS, it creates a number of consequential challenges to its security design. To overcome the challenges, there is a need to build a powerful security solution that achieves both broad protection and desirable network performance. Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) has emerged as a new leading edge of technology to provide communication wherever and whenever required. As the wired network needs established infrastructure for communication but the mobile ad hoc network does not need any infrastructure, centralized management and control. Due to movable nature of nodes in Mobilead hoc network difficult routing between nodes are not very easy task. For this purpose many reactive routing protocols have been implemented like AODV, DSR, and DSDV. In the first part of this work, we propose a new algorithm AODV-BTR to improve existing on demand routing protocol and an attempt has been made to compare the performance of proposed algorithm (AODV-BTR) with existing algorithm AODV. Ad hoc networks are susceptible to many types of attacks; due tomovable nature of nodes it is very difficult to provide security at each node. This paper introduces the black hole attack; in this type of attack mischievous node announce that he is having the shortest path to all nodes in the environment by sending fake route reply message. This paper proposes an easiest way to detect Black hole attacks using DLM technique. DML method presents the solution to detect & remove blackhole attack in reactive protocol called AODV-BTR.
