Annual Performance of a Commercial Building with Liquid Desiccant Based Independent Humidity Control HVAC System in Guangzhou

Based on a new type of sprayed liquid desiccant total heat recovery device, a liquid desiccant system combined refrigeration system with the independent humidity control (IHC) strategy is presented, in which the entire latent load and part of the sensible load are removed by liquid desiccant fresh unit combining heat pump (LFUH). The air-conditioning cooling load of a commercial building is simulated by DEST software. And the energy consumption is calculated respectively for conventional air conditioning system and IHC system. Compared with ordinary systems, IHC system can achieve savings of about 20% of the power consumption per annum. In addition, the average coefficient of chiller performance (COP) can increase about 13.5%. The result sows that IHC system has better application prospects.

The desiccant based hybrid air conditioning system can control temperature and humidity separately, which consists of adsorption desiccant system and compression type refrigeration system. The adsorption desiccant system obtains the moisture power, and the compression type refrigeration can obtain sensible heat load. Generally, the regenerated energy consumption of the desiccant wheel is very large in the total energy consumption, using electric power, waste heat or renewable energy (solar etc). Heat recovery from the condenser considered as only regenerated energy in the new type adsorption desiccant based hybrid air conditioning system is proposed and discussed in this paper. This method can reduce much energy consumption, and make the air conditioning system structure simple.

In this paper a new type of open absorption the liquid desiccant, air conditioning system will be introduced. The dehumidifier and regenerator play the most important role in this system.For liquid-gas contact, packed towers with low pressure drop provide good heat and mass transfer characteristics for compact designs. Thus, this analysis considers the packed tower liquid desiccant systems. The experimental data have been obtained from a built prototype of liquid desiccant system in a packed bed unit with a surface area per unit volume ratio of 125m2/m3, the liquid desiccant, viz lithium chloride. The result showed that the mean mass transfer coefficient of the packing dehumidifier was 0.02kg/m2s. Also the absorber characteristic parameter, the packing size or number of transfer units (NTU), and air-to-desiccant solution mass flow rate ratio (ASMR) are crucial parameters. These parameters affect humidity and enthalpy effectiveness and will be introduced and defined in this paper.
