There are many different types of manufacturing methods for heat sink fins in the current market. The aim of this study is to design an extrusion die for a radial-finned heat sink using a commercial finite element package, DEFORMTM 3D. We then conduct a series of simulation analyses with different variables such as friction factor, ram velocity, and fin gate stage of the die to evaluate the methods of decreasing the warping in the extrusion process. The die is assumed as a rigid body in the analyses. The results confirm the suitability of DEFORMTM 3D to design an extrusion die achieving a lower warping behavior of the radial-finned heat sink.

Thermal design and analysis of a satellite borne FPGA is described in this paper. Thermal-conductive glue, vias and an aluminum bar were used to the FPGA and the PCB under the FPGA in order to help conduct the heat of the FPGA to heat sink. The results of finite element analysis showed that the case temperature of the FPGA decreased from 132.5°C to 55.4°C and the junction temperature decreased from 136.1°C to59.0 °C after the thermal design, which matches the requirements of thermal design.

This paper used finite element analysis of metal forming to study the forging process and die design of aluminum alloy brake parts. According to the process parameters and die design, the brake parts were forged by experiment. First, the die design is based on the product size and considering parting line, draft angle, forging tolerance, shrinkage and scrap. Secondly, the finite element analysis of metal forming is used to simulate the forging process of aluminum alloy brake parts. Finally, the aluminum alloy brake levers with dimensional accuracy and surface hardness were forged.

In order to improve the modeling efficiency for finite element analysis pre-processing, a parametric modeling method of underground powerhouse for finite element analysis is proposed. By inputting the basic geometric parameters, different types of underground powerhouse models are built by using this method. The basic ideas, basic principle and the process of this parametric modeling are presented. And the parametric modeling procedure is coded by using VC++, interactive interface and display window are designed by using MFC and OpenGL. Finite element model of Houziyan underground powerhouse which is built by using the procedure proves that this method greatly improves the efficiency and precision of modeling.

Die design was optimized for suppressing the void growth in multi-pass drawing. The void index to evaluate the void fraction in multi-pass drawing was first proposed, based on the well-known equation to predict the fracture limit in cold working. Using finite element analysis, the influence of die geometries on the void index was investigated and dies were designed to have the effect of suppressing void with the least minimum die length. A series of experiments was then carried out to verify the validity of the numerical analysis. The densities of drawn bars were measured and voids in microstructures were observed to verify the validity of the proposed void index.
