As the lack of topsoil resources, and the shortage of water resources, the ecological environment is extremely fragile in the pasture opencast coal mine area of China. Therefore, that the way to achieve the most efficient use of the limited topsoil resources in pasture area, plays a crucial role in land reclamation and ecological restoration. East II opencast coal mine in Datang, Inner Mongolia was taken as an example to analyze topsoil quality variation under different dump platform and slope reclamation modes in the pasture opencast coal mine area. The field investigation method was used in this paper. The study found that the mode "covering topsoil, overlying grass, grass grid, N fertilization, planting vanguard vegetation" in dump platform and "covering topsoil, overlying grass, grass grid, planting vanguard vegetation " in dump slope can lead to the best topsoil quality, though it still less than the original landscape topsoil quality level. The research can provide technical support and scientific basis for the pasture reclamation and ecological restoration.

By conducting field investigation and tests, such as groundwater pumping test and rock mechanics test, and building numerical models to simulate damage of coal mining to aquifers, it was proved that coal mining in some coal mine area caused impacts to groundwater environment, including impact on water cycle, the structure of aquifers, and groundwater flow field, as a result of which some water supply sources in coal mine area become unavailable. In addition, a couple of solutions are presented to mitigate the impacts.

This paper aims to study on the landscape future of a large number of coal-mines distributed around the border of resource-based cities in China, which have been abandoned or semi-abandoned, lacking of features, with scattered settlements separated by the industry. Taking the coal-mine region around the city of Taiyuan in Shanxi province as an example, seeing from the perspective of urban economics, landscape ecology and sociological, finding landscape transformation ways to solve the threat of industrial collapse, the suffering from social problems, the seriously polluted waste, the loss of social cultural issues and other series of problems in the region, so as to get economic recovery, land reclamation, and ecological restoration. Special mention is also given in these urbanized areas on how to increase employment, how to establish urban features and how to make a pleasant community

Land reclamation in mine area starts later in China than developed countries, land reclamation rate is also lower, it urgently requests to explore land reclamation technology suitable for China's national conditions, in order to improve land reclamation rate and the production potential. This paper will systemicly analyzes ecological effects of mining exploitation and summarizes typical technology of ecological restoration in order to promote the further development of land reclamation in China.
