The impurities and gas-liquid inclusions in quartz sand, which are from our country and UNIMIN Corporation respectively, were analyzed by Inductive Coupling Plasma Emission Spectrograph(ICP-AES)and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The results showed that the biggest difference between them was the content of gas-liquid inclusions. Thus, in order to improve the quality of our country high purity quartz sand, development of new technology to remove gas-liquid inclusions has been imperative. Method for removal of gas-liquid inclusions, using microwave radiation, was studied in this project. Meanwhile, the change of microscopic morphology of gas-liquid inclusion was observed by polarizing microscope. And the change of water content in gas-liquid inclusion was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Our results showed that micro-crack could be produced on the surface of gas-liquid inclusion under microwave treatment. The results also showed that new water molecules and liquid inclusions could be generated in the process. Furthermore, these liquid inclusions could be removed and H2O could be reduced by HF acid leaching.

A two-sided wooden icon from a monastery in Transylvania was submitted for multidisciplinary investigations involving X-Ray Fluorescence, Radiographic Photographyand Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. The most important part of the icon is St. Nicholas wooden icon, painted over forty years ago. The spectroscopic methods used revealed the painting materials composition, the status of the wooden stage, and the presence of resins as varnish (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). On one side, the St Nicholasicon was painted over an old icon, St. Arch. Michael, which was evidenced by X-Ray Photography. The obtained data can serve for the preservation and the restoration of these wooden icons.

Background: Possessions of components, described by their shape and size (S&S), are certainly attractive and has formed the foundation of the developing field of nanoscience. Methods: Here, we study the S&S reliant on electronic construction and possession of nanocrystals by semiconductors and metals to explain this feature. We formerly considered the chemical dynamics of mineral nanocrystals that are arranged according to the S&S not only for the big surface area, but also as a consequence of the considerably diverse electronic construction of the nanocrystals. Results: The S&S of models, approved by using the Fractional Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FFTIR), indicate the construction of CdSe and ZnSe nanoparticles. Conclusion: In order to study the historical behavior of the nanomaterial in terms of S&S and estimate further results, the FFTIR was used to solve this project.
