Antennae light fuscous; distal end of the basal joint of antennae, palpi, head, patagia, thorax, and ground color of fore wings yellowish wood-brown. Terminal joint of palpus with a broad fuscous annulation. Fore wings variously marked with blackish fuscous; near base a fuscous patch which fades distally and becomes fused with ground color; a large fuscous discal spot which in some specimens (females) is almost black which gradually fuses with the ground color on all sides; before this, two small black spots; beyond, one black spot; costa somewhat spotted with fuscous; from costa near apex around termen to the inner margin 11 small black spots. In some specimens these are somewhat obscured. Cilia light grayish fuscous tipped with buff. Hind wing light fuscous, darker toward apex. Cilia light grayish fuscous, buff tipped. Abdomen yellowish wood-brown below with two fuscous longitudinal stripes ; above, brownish fuscous, some scales tipped with the light yellowish wood-brown. Legs yellowish, wood-brown; above more fuscous, tarsi especially so; spurs fuscous.

A new species of wrasse, Macropharyngodon pakoko, is described from the Marquesas Islands, bringing the total number of species of the genus Macropharyngodon to 12. Macropharyngodon pakoko was found at depths from 0-42 m and is endemic to the Marquesas Islands. Macropharyngodon pakoko is similar to M. meleagris, which is widely distributed from the central and western Pacific to Cocos-Keeling in the Indian Ocean, but differs genetically and in several coloration characters: males with irregularly curved black humeral blotch with incomplete iridescent blue border; inverted irregular “U”- shaped band on the cheek; a small black spot at the upper base of the pectoral fin; and background color of the body greenish with faint bluish black spots on each scale. Females lack black pigment on the chest posterior to the ventral attachment of the gill membranes; reddish black blotches on the body are widely spaced, particularly on the head where they are more reddish and half the size of those on body; caudal fin with small, bright yellow spots arranged in narrow vertical bands with pale interspaces; pelvic fins pale with three reddish yellow cross-bands; a small black spot at the upper base of the pectoral fin; and small reddish spots along the base of the anal fin. Juveniles have irregular black blotches on the body, a small black spot instead of an ocellus posteriorly on the dorsal fin and lack large black spots and ocellus on the anal fin.

Male. Palpi extremely short and stubby. Antennae slightly compressed laterally but not particularly thickened. Primaries light smoky gay, sprinkled with deeper smoky. Basal space light gray, bordered outwardly by a strong black oblique line which is angled rather sharply below costa and then somewhat concave outwardly to vein I, ending in a small black spot on inner margin.

Avocado (Persea americana L.) production for export markets has increased in Mexico during the past 10 years. The production system, however, is affected by several sanitation factors, including diseases. During the spring of 2009, smooth, black, circular spots were noted on the surface of avocado fruit. A study was conducted during the winter of 2010 to ascertain the etiology and identify the fungus associated with black spot symptoms on avocado fruit in orchards of Nuevo Parangaricutiro County (19°25′00″ and 102°07′43″) in Michoacan, Mexico. Several fungal isolates were obtained on potato dextrose agar (PDA) from the margin of lesions on immature fruit. The internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of the rDNA from representative isolates was sequenced with universal primers ITS5 and ITS4 (2). BLAST searches in GenBank showed 100% similarity of the nucleotide sequences with Neofusicoccum parvum (Pennycook & Samuels) Crous, Slippers & A.J.L. Phillips, GenBank Accession Nos. GU188001 to GU188007 and GU187985 to GU187987. A representative nucleotide sequence of this region was deposited in GenBank under the Accession No. JN203129. Strains of N. parvum produced aerial and compact mycelium on acidified PDA, the anamorph state of Botryosphaeria parva. Mycelium was initially white, turning gradually gray to black. Conidia were one celled, hyaline, ellipsoidal to fusiform, externally smooth, thin walled, nonseptate, with one or two septa with age, and an average length and width of 14.5 (9.5 to 19) × 5.8 (4.0 to 7.2) μm (n = 100). Pathogenicity tests were conducted with six avocado fruit cv. Hass. Fruit were inoculated at three evenly spaced locations on the fruit surface, either by wounding the tissue with a needle that had been dipped in a conidial mass from an 8-day-old monoconidial culture of N. parvum strain CIAD-021-11 or by placing 5 μl of 1 × 106 conidia ml–1 suspension on each inoculation site. Inoculated fruit were maintained in a moist chamber at 25°C for 2 weeks. Black lesions appeared on all wounded sites 2 days postinoculation (dpi) and on unwounded sites 4 dpi. The delay of symptom development was likely due to penetration through the lenticels, which took longer to initiate infection. No symptoms were observed in the control fruit. The pathogen was reisolated from the lesions of all inoculated fruit, thus fulfilling Koch's postulates. The results confirmed the pathogenic potential of this fungus and indicated its possible involvement in the etiology of black spot on avocado fruit. N. parvum is a cosmopolitan, plurivorous pathogen causing disease in several hosts of economic importance, such as grapes and kiwi, as well as causing stem-end rot of avocado fruit in New Zealand (1) and avocado twigs in Spain (3). The new species, Stenozonium leonardi, the northernmost representative of the Polyzoniidae in western North America and the only one north of the Columbia River, is described from the Olympic Peninsula of Washington; it is isolated by some 180 mi (288 km) from S. benedictae Shelley, 1998, in coastal Oregon. Stenozonium alone among the four polyzoniidan genera in western North America consists of entirely allopatric and widely separated species, with one apiece in California, Oregon, and Washington-evidence that it diversified earlier than its ordinal counterparts.

Two new species of the genus Sphingonotus Fieber, 1852, namely Sphingonotus taiwanensis sp. nov. and Sphingonotus zhongningensis sp. nov. are described in this paper from China. The new species Sphingonotus taiwanensis sp. nov. is similar to Sphingonotus nebulosus (Fiescher-Waldheim, 1846), but differs from the latter by interspace of mesosternum wider, width 1.8 times the length; hind femur pale red on inner side; hind tibia pale red, with 13 spines on inner side and 10 spines on outer side; hind wing pale yellow at base. The new species Sphingonotus zhongningensis sp. nov. is similar to Sphingonotus salinus (Pallas, 1773), but differs from the latter in: vertical diameter of eye 1.3 times horizontal diameter; metazona of pronotum is 2.0 times prozona in length; hind tibiae with 13 spines on inner side and 12 spines on outer side; black band of hind wing wider in the middle, apical part not narrowed; black band of hind wing in the apical part larger, not divided into two.        The type specimens are deposited in the Taiwan Agricultural Research of Institute (TARI), Taichung Taiwan, China and in the College of Plant Protection, China Agricultural University, Beijing, China respectively.

The milliped genus Amplaria Chamberlin 1941 was synonymized with Striaria Bollman 1888 by Hoffman (1980). Examination of a much wider range of materials of nominal Striaria species both from eastern North America and the Pacific coastal states shows that some species occurring from California to Washington (state) represent a distinct phyletic line, for which Amplaria Chamberlin 1941 is the oldest available generic name. Speostriaria Causey 1960 is a synonym of Amplaria. Amplaria muiri n. sp. and A. adamsi n. sp. are two new, recently discovered species from caves in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, California. Illustrations are provided of a specimen that may represent the type species, Amplaria eutypa (Chamberlin) 1953.

The diversity of Cobitis in the Middle East is reviewed, resulting in the recognition of 30 species, of which eight are described herein as new. Two species, C. amphilekta and C. kellei, seem to be extinct. Hypotheses on species-level diversity derived from distance and Poisson tree process analyses of DNA barcode data are tested against morphometric and morphological characters including colour patterns. For species pairs separated by small K2P distances in COI sequence data we follow a practitioner-oriented diagnostic species concept, in which we recognise species only if differentiated morphologically (including by colour pattern). For all 30 species we provide diagnoses and identification keys. Cobitis afifeae, new species, from the Büyük Menderes River drainage in the Aegean Sea basin, is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, a row of blotches below Z4, a small, roundish or comma-shaped black spot at the upper caudal-fin base, and elevated mental lobes. Cobitis aliyeae, new species, from the lower Seyhan and Ceyhan River drainages, is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, the blotches in Z2 and Z4 anterior to the dorsal-fin origin usually well separated from each other, and the pigmentation in Z1 well distinguished from the pigmentation in Z2. Cobitis anabelae, new species, from the lower Orontes River drainage, is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, the pigmentation in Z2 formed by small, brown spots, always much smaller than blotches in Z3, much smaller than the pupil diameter, Z2 and Z3 well separated, and no pigmentation below Z4. Cobitis erkakanae, new species, from the Gölbasi Lakes, adjacent to the Ceyhan River drainage, is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, no blotches below Z4, the blotches in Z2 and Z4 being horizontally elongated and often fused with adjacent ones, and the caudal fin with 4–6 wide, regularly-shaped, brown bands. Cobitis emrei, new species, from the Lake Sapanca basin is distinguished by having one lamina circularis in the male, a large black spot at the upper caudal-fin base, and Z3 fully covered by very small spots forming a sand-like pattern. Cobitis joergbohleni, new species, from the Sultan marshes in Central Anatolia is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, and the flank colour pattern being completely disorganised, not following the Gambetta zones. Cobitis pirii, new species, from the endorheic Lake Eğirdir basin and the Mediterranean Aksu and Köprü Rivers, is distinguished by having two laminae circularis in the male, a simple external part of the suborbital spine and two distinct rows of small blotches in Z4, one along the lateral midline and one distinctly below. Cobitis troasensis, new species, from the Tuzla River drainage, is distinguished by having one lamina circularis in the male and 25–36 small, comma-shaped brown blotches in Z4. A lectotype is designated for Cobitis battalgilae. As First Revisers, priority is given to Cobitis fahireae over C. kurui. Cobitis damlae and C. kurui are treated as synonyms of C. fahireae. Cobitis strumicae and C. taenia are recorded for the first time from Anatolia and C. saniae is newly documented from the Black Sea basin in Georgia. The Poisson tree process analysis of COI data proposed 31 groups, most of which could be distinguished by morphological characters. Cobitis troasensis is described based on morphological data alone.

Betta nuluhon, new species, is described from a hill stream habitat in western Sabah. This species is allied to both B. chini and B. balunga, and differs from rest of its congeners in the B. akarensis group in having the following combination of characters: yellow iris when live; mature males with greenish-blue iridescence on opercle when live; mature fish with distinct transverse bars on caudal fin; slender body (body depth 22.1–25.2 % SL); belly area with faint reticulate pattern (scales posteriorly rimmed with black); absence of tiny black spots on anal fin; lateral scales 29–31 (mode 30); predorsal scales 20–21 (mode 20). Notes on a fresh series of B. chini are also provided.

Leafhoppers of the Eupteryx-complex differ from other members of the tribe Typhlocybini in having the posterior branch of hind wing vein R separate from the anterior branch of M (Young 1952). The complex now includes 9 known genera of which 5 genera, Aguriahana Distant 1918, Eurhadina Haupt 1929, Eupteryx Curtis 1833, Caknesia Dworakowska 1994, Almunisna Dworakowska 1969 and Bellpenna Chiang et al 1989, have been reported from China. Here we propose a new genus Comahadina Huang and Zhang which shares the hind wing character with other genera in the complex, based on a new species, Comahadina angelica Huang and Zhang, here designated as the type-species. The new genus and species are described and illustrated and a key to all genera of the Eupteryx-complex is provided.

A new species of Haploglenius Burmeister, 1839 from Colombia (H. abdominevittatus Ardila & Jones sp. nov.) is described.This species is unique among members of Haploglenius—which are newly diagnosed here under a slightly revised definitionby the presence of three rows of anal cells in the hind wing—in having both a well-developed axillary angle and a highly exca-vated posterior margin at the base of the forewing, characters normally distinctive of other Neotropical genera of Haploglenii-nae. This species also exhibits unique color patterning on the abdomen. The male genitalia are illustrated, a first for species in the genus.
