Taxonomic studies in the Disinae. VI. A revision of the genus Herschelia

The genus  Herschelia (Disinae, Orchidaceae) is revised. Sixteen species, one subspecies and one variety are recognized. Two new species from tropical Africa (H. chimanimaniensis Linder and H. praecox Linder) and a new variety from the Cape Province H. lugens (H. Bol.) Kraenzl. var. nigrescens Linder are described. Three new combinations are made by transferring the two species of Forficaria and  Disa sect. Microperistera (one species) to Herschelia. Thirteen species are illustrated, and the nomenclature and the available information about the habitats of the taxa are discussed. The species are grouped into two subgenera, one of which is further divided into two sections and four series. This classification is based on the putative phylogeny, as determined by the method devised by Wagner (1962).

The Australian, New Zealand and Papua New Guinean representatives of Hypogymia are reviewed. Photographs, keys and descriptions are given for the 11 species and five varieties. Two new species are described, H. enteromorphoides and H. kosciuskoensis, as well as a new variety, H. subphysodes var. austerodioides and six new combinations are made, namely H. lugubris var. sublugubris, H. lugubris var. compactior, H. pulchrilobata, H. pul- verata, H. tubularis and H. turgidula. Distribution of these taxa is discussed and maps have been provided. The species included in this revision are H. billardieri, H. enteromorphoides, H. kosciuskoensis, H. lugubris, H. mundata, H. pulchrilobata, H. pulverata, H. subphysodes, H. tubularis, H. turgidula and H. vittata.

In this study, we describe two new Halamphora species (Halamphora subfontinalis and H. hezhangii) and identify three species newly recorded in China (H. elongata, H. submontana and H. tenella) and two others previously recorded from China (H. montana and H. dusenii), as well as make preliminary observations on three interesting and unnamed Halamphora species. For all ten taxa observations were made using light microscopy and for the new taxa scanning electron microscopical observations were also made. Comparisons of morphological features are made with similar, previously-described taxa. All of these Halamphora species were found in alkaline waters (7.2 < pH < 9.7) in the mountainous regions of southwest China, including Tibet, Yunnan and Guizhou Provinces. In addition, we list in Halamphora twenty taxa previously recorded from China in the genus Amphora, resulting in two new combinations.

Two new species of Brownanthus, B glareicola Klak and B fratemus Klak and one new species of Scopelogena, S. bruynsii Klak are described. S. gracilis L.Bolus is reduced to synonymy under S. verruculata (L.) L Bolus. Three new combinations are made: Antimima excedens (L.Bolus) Klak. Erepsia dunensis (Sond.) Klak and Hammeria meleagris (L.Bolus) Klak and full synonomy is given  Lampranthus maximilianii (Schltr. A.Berger) L Bolus is transferred back to Braunsia maximilianii (Schltr. A Berger) Schwantes and the identity of Ruschia polita L Bolus is discussed. The taxonomic position of Mesembryanthemum purpureostylum L.Bolus is clarified.

Abstract Raunolina Gnezdilov & Wilson, 2006 erected as a subgenus of Perissana Metcalf, 1952 is upgraded to generic level. Raunolina remanei sp. nov. is described from northeastern Sudan, which is the first record of the genus and the tribe Adenissini Dlabola, 1980 from tropical Africa, and R. jeddahica sp. nov. is described from western Saudi Arabia. Two new combinations are provided: Raunolina circularis (Linnavuori, 1952), comb. nov. and Raunolina arabica (Gnezdilov & Wilson, 2006), comb. nov.; R. arabica is recorded for the first time from Yemen. A key to separate the genera Perissana and Raunolina as well as a key to species of Raunolina are given. The global distribution of Adenissini is discussed.

Elongationa gen. nov., a new leafhopper genus (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Ledrinae) with one new species, E. hyalina sp. nov., is described and illustrated in detail. A checklist and key to species in the genus Midoria are provided including a new species, Midoria curvidentata sp. nov., described in this paper.

Abstract. The stratigraphic distribution of the Late Callovian to Early Oxfordian dinoflagellate cyst Stephanelytron Sarjeant 1961 emend provides new evidence pertaining to its evolution. Middle and Upper Callovian times favoured the development of speciations to a short-ranging Stephanelytron community with corona(s) in ventral–posterior position (Stephanelytron brontes, S. callovianum, S. ceto and S. tabulophorum) from eurytopic species with antapical coronas (S. caytonense, S. membranoidium, S. redcliffense and S. scarburghense). The former group of species (except S. tabulophorum) may represent an example of peripatric speciation from an unfavourable mutation. The reduced stratigraphic range gives the appearance of an endemic population. The genus Lagenadinium Piel, 1985 is a junior synonym of Stephanelytron Sarjeant, 1961. A new emendation of Stephanelytron, two new combinations (S. callovianum and S. membranoidium) and two new species (?S. brontes and S. ceto) are proposed.

A new variety of Agalmyla tuberculala Hook. f. is described; it extends the range of the species from Mt Kinabalu, Sabah, to Mt Murud, N Sarawak. Five new species and four new varieties of Cyrtandra are described from Mt Kinabalu; there are also two new species of Cyrtandra from Sarawak.

The taxonomy and distribution of Pacific Annonaceae are reviewed in light of recent changes in generic delimitations. A new species of the genus Monoon from the Solomon Archipelago is described, Monoon salomonicum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., together with an apparently related new species from New Guinea, Monoon pachypetalum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. The confirmed presence of the genus in the Solomon Islands extends the generic range eastward beyond New Guinea. Two new species of Huberantha are described, Huberantha asymmetrica I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. and Huberantha whistleri I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., from the Solomon Islands and Samoa respectively. New combinations are proposed: Drepananthus novoguineensis (Baker f.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov., Meiogyne punctulata (Baill.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov. and Monoon merrillii (Kaneh.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. nov. One neotype and four lectotypes are designated. The geographic patterns exhibited by nine native Annonaceae genera, that range in the Pacific beyond New Guinea, are discussed.
