AbstractThe generalized binomial function can be obtained as the solution of the equation y = 1 +zyα which satisfies y(0) = 1 where α ≠ 1 is assumed to be real and positive. The technique of Lagrange inversion can be used to express as a series which converges for |z| < α-α|a — l|α-1. We obtain a representation of the function as a contour integral and show that if α > 1 it is an analytic function in the complex z plane cut along the nonnegative real axis. For 0 < α < 1 the region of analyticity is the sector |arg(—z)| < απ. In either case defined by the series can be continued beyond the circle of convergenece of the series through a functional equation which can be derived from the integral representation.

SummaryThe problem considered is the diffraction of an electromagnetic wave by a perfectly conducting wedge embedded in a plasma on which a uniform magnetic field is impressed. The plasma is assumed to behave as an anisotropic dielectric and the problem is reduced, by employing a contour integral representation for the solution, to solving a difference equation. Surface waves are found to be excited on the wedge and expressions are given for their amplitudes.

The eigenvectors of q-deformed creation operator [Formula: see text] are discussed for q being real or a root of unity by using the contour integral representation of δ function. The properties for the eigenvectors are also discussed. In the case of qp = 1, the eigenvectors may be normalizable.

We suggest a contour integral representation for the on-shell T matrix in nonrelativistic N-body potential scattering with strong short range interactions. Results of a numerical calculation in the two-body system using a short range separable interaction of the Yamaguchi type are presented and show fast convergence towards the reference value.

In this paper the projection iterative method is used for solving the generalized Carleman problem A(t) F+(t) + B(t) F+(-t) + C(t) F-(t) = h(t), tÎR Where R is the real axis; A(t), B(t), C(t) are Holder continuous functions;  h(t)ÎL2, and  F+(t), F-(t) is a boundary value of analytic function upper (lower) half-plane.

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>We give analytically explicit solutions for the distribution of the number of customers served during a busy period for the <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\begin{document}$ M^X/PH/1 $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> queues when initiated with <inline-formula><tex-math id="M2">\begin{document}$ m $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> customers. When customers arrive in batches, we present the functional equation for the Laplace transform of the number of customers served during a busy period. Applying the Lagrange inversion theorem, we provide a refined result to this functional equation. From a phase-type service distribution, we obtain the distribution of the number of customers served during a busy period for various special cases such as exponential, Erlang-k, generalized Erlang, hyperexponential, Coxian, and interrupted Poisson process. The results are exact, rapid and vigorous, owing to the clarity of the expressions. Moreover, we also consider computational results for several service-time distributions using our method. Phase-type distributions can approximate any non-negative valued distribution arbitrarily close, making them a useful practical stochastic modelling tool. These distributions have eloquent properties which make them beneficial in the computation of performance models.</p>
