Introduction: Hypertension is an overwhelming global challenge. Appropriate lifestyle modifications are the cornerstone for the prevention and control of hypertension. In this regard, lack of knowledge and poor attitude toward lifestyle modification have been a major setback. Objective: To assess knowledge, attitude and practice of lifestyle modification recommended for hypertension management and the associated factors among adult hypertensive patients in Harar, Eastern Ethiopia. Methods: Hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 274 hypertensive patients in Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital, from 1 March to 30 May 2019. The pre-tested structured questionnaire was used, and the data were collected through an interview. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. A multivariate logistic regression model was fitted to determine independent predictors of knowledge and practice of lifestyle modifications among hypertensive patients. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) at 95% confidence interval (CI) was used for predicting the independent effect of each variable on the outcome variables. Results: From the total participants, 200 (73.0%) of participants had good knowledge, 182 (66.4%) had favorable attitude and 136 (49.6%) had good practice on lifestyle modification recommended for hypertension management. Regarding factors associated with lifestyle modification, being in age range of 46–64 years (AOR: 4.08, 95% CI: 1.14–14.56); having formal education (AOR: 3.93, 95% CI: 1.27–12.23); being government employee (AOR: 8.06, 95% CI: 1.40–46.32) and being housewives (AOR: 5.10, 95% CI: 1.26–20.79) were factors significantly associated with good knowledge of lifestyle modification, However, favorable attitude was found to be the only factor associated with good practice of lifestyle modification (AOR: 9.20, 95% CI: 2.60–32.24). Conclusion: In the current study, knowledge and attitude toward lifestyle modification recommended for hypertension management was fairly good but practice level was poor. Concerted strategies are required to increase the knowledge, attitude and practice of the lifestyle modification measures in this population group.

Objectives: The prime objective of this study is to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward medications in a community of Davangere city. Methods: This community-based study was conducted for 6 months using medication therapy management aspects. Ethical clearance was obtainedfrom the Institutional Ethical Committee. Patients above 18 years of age who were willing to participate were included in the study. The data werecollected using specific data collection forms, and KAP toward medications of each patient was assessed using KAP questionnaire. Medicationadherence was analyzed using Morisky Medication Adherence Scale 4. Patient counseling about disease, medication, and lifestyle modification wasgiven, and the orally taking household drugs were segregated according to class and specific clinical uses. Results: Out of 129 patients, 58.1% were male. Out of 19 diseases encountered during the study, diabetes mellitus (32.56%) and hypertension(25.58%) were most prevalent. Majority of patients (63.57%) were prescribed with cardiovascular agents. Paracetamol was found as a commonhousehold drug. Sixty-nine percent of patients were procuring medication directly from the pharmacy and the remaining 31% were procuring theirmedication after consulting the physician. Mean scores of KAP in basal and endpoint assessment were compared using Student’s t-test. p value wasfound to be <0.000.Conclusion: The study tried to entitle the name of pharmacist as a patient educator who gives proper guidance to the patient and family membersabout the disease, domestic drug management, lifestyle modification, etc. The result of efficient patient counseling will be reflected on the properadherence of patient toward the medication and improved quality of life. Keywords: Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP), Medication therapy management (MTM), Morisky medication adherence Scale – 4 (MMAS-4),patient education.

BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder amongst women of reproductive age associated with various clinical and psychological manifestations. Promoting awareness and lifestyle modifications is essential to empower the female PCOS population to take health care decisions for the treatment and management. OBJECTIVE Assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice(KAP) among PCOS population is significant in behavioral and lifestyle modification. Thus, the present study was undertaken to develop a KAP tool. METHODS An observational, non-controlled study was conducted using random sampling in the age range of 15-25 years. A total of 600 subjects were screened with the help of a standardized screening questionnaire and the presence of PCOS was confirmed using the Rotterdam criteria (2003).A KAP tool validated by an expert panel was given to the subjects confirmed for PCOS to assess knowledge, attitude and practices. The validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis. The Spearman-Brown correlation coefficients helped to assess reliability for knowledge, attitude and practice domains, which were found to be 0.83, 0.63 and 0.47 respectively. RESULTS Significant knowledge was found among confirmed PCOS subjects, but had low attitudes and their practices did not commensurate with their knowledge about PCOS and Nutrition. CONCLUSION The present research contributes to the understanding of a growing PCOS epidemic in urban India and document the need to screen knowledge, attitude and practice, to develop supportive interventions addressing quality of life issues to reduce the distress among women with PCOS.

Herein, a relatively rare case is reported in which a knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) health education model was applied in a young female patient with metabolic syndrome (MS) and acute pancreatitis (AP), with a satisfactory effect. The purpose of this report is to provide a reference for a viable health education program in clinical practice for intervention of MS with concurrent AP in the absence of clinical trials. The patient’s unhealthy lifestyle led to obesity, diabetes mellitus, severe fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, and AP. We used a KAP health education model in a nursing intervention and evidence-based multidisciplinary cooperation to develop a personalized diet, exercise plan, education plan, and continuous care of the patient after discharge from the hospital. Within 2 months, the patient achieved weight loss, stable blood lipids, controlled blood sugar levels, and decreased glycated hemoglobin level from 9.0% to 5.4%. This KAP-based health education model has clinical importance as an intervention for lifestyle modification in patients with MS and AP. This approach can be adopted to help other patients to effectively control and prevent the recurrence of diseases.
