SANTOS, R. D. S.; SOUZA, M. H. H.METHOD-COMPARISON STUDY TO ESTIMATE THE REFERENCE EVAPOTRANSPIRATION IN PETROLINA, PE  2 ABSTRACT The knowledge on evapotranspiration is vital in determining the water requirements of a crop. Therefore, this paper aims to compare the performance of seven of estimation methods for the reference evapotranspiration in relation to the Penman-Monteith method, adopted as standard, for the municipality of Petrolina, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. We used daily climatic data from 2004 to 2015 to estimate the ET0 coefficient, obtained in the automatic weather station of the Test Field in Bebedouro, Embrapa in the Semi-arid climate. The statistical indicators used in the evaluation were: coefficient of determination (r²), correlation coefficient (r), agreement index (d) and performance index (c). The r2 values showed that the estimation method that best fitted to the Penman-Monteith method was Ivanov's (0.73), followed by Jensen-Haise (0.64), Makkink and Priestley-Taylor (0.63), Villa Nova (0.62), Hargreaves and Samani (0.53) and Hamon (0.45) methods. However, in relation to the index "c", Hamon was classified as "very poor"; Makkink as "poor"; Hargreaves and Samani and Villa Nova as "tolerable"; Ivanov and Priestley-Taylor as "medium"; and Jensen-Haise as "good". The last one was considered as the best performance rating method. Keywords: Penman-Monteith, correlation, semi-arid climate.

In the current century, a suitable strategy is concerned for optimal consumption of energy, due to limited natural resources and fossil fuels for moving towards sustainable development and environmental protection. Given the rising cost of energy, environmental pollution and the end of fossil fuels, zero-energy buildings became a popular option in today's world. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the design of zero-energy buildings, in order to reduce energy consumption and increase productivity, including plan form, climatic characteristics, materials, coverage etc. The present study collects the features of zero-energy building in Isfahan, which is based on the Emberger Climate View in the arid climate, by examining the books and related writings, field observations and using a descriptive method, in the form of qualitative studies. The results of the research showed that some actions are needed to save energy and, in general, less consumption of renewable energy by considering the climate and the use of natural conditions.

The objective of this study was to determine crop coefficients (KC) for Ligustrum japonica growing in three container sizes using the Penman equation to calculate reference evapotranspiration (ETR). Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 3-liter containers and upcanned as needed into 10- and 23-L containers. Production was scheduled such that a series of plants in each container size were about 2 months from commercial marketable size every 4 months. Beginning 1 Jan. 1995 until 31 Dec. 1996, three uniform plants of each size were suspended in weighing lysimeters and surrounded by similar size plants filling an area 3.7 by 4.9 m. Plants within each area were overhead irrigated at 2000 h as needed, based on a 30% moisture allowed deficit. Plants were exchanged every 4 months such that the annual mean size was that of a marketable plant. Actual evapotranspiration (ETA) was calculated from half-hour measurements of each plant's weight and adjusted for rainfall. From these and daily calculated ETR, KC were determined for each size of container. KCs ranged from 1.06 to 1.50 when ETA was converted to mm/day based on allocated bed space. Comparisons of volumes of supplemental irrigation to ETA and effects of assumptions required in converting ETA to mm/day will be discussed.

This paper presents a comparative study of two experimental systems, stabilization ponds without macrophytes and macrophytic ponds, to purify wastewater under arid climate of Marrakesh. Organic load (COD, TSS), bacterial load (SF, CF) and parasitical load (helminth eggs) are significantly reduced in both systems. Even though water loss was more important at the macrophytic ponds (evapotranspiration reaches 60% of influent flow), this system shows generally the best efficiency in purifying wastewater. In summer time, TSS and COD depletion is better on macrophytic ponds (TSS: 95%, COD: 87%). The stabilization ponds are more efficient to reduce nutrients: NH4+: 72%. PO4: 63% at the same period. Fecal streptococci and fecal coliforms are reduced more in stabilization ponds (CF: 99.4%, SF: 99.7%) than macrophytic ponds (CF: 96.2%, SF: 94.7%). No helminth eggs were found in the effluent from either system. The two systems ensure optimal removal of parasites allowing the eventual reuse of the treated effluents for agricultural purposes.
