In this research we study optical absorption and morphology of silver films prepared with a sputtering method. Silver granular films are obtained on a glass substrate for films with thickness smaller than about 60 Å. Superficial silver clusters of around 100 nm in diameter are clearly seen in the atomic force micrographs. The absorption of these samples are characterized by plasmon excitation in the 450-650 nm spectral range, which differs from the known excitation of silver nanoparticles fabricated by different techniques. The optical absorption of silver granular films depend on sputtering conditions like substrate temperature or deposition rate and correlates with the surface morphology.

AbstractA series of guanidinium chloride derivatives have been synthesized by condensation of 1,3-diaminoguanidine monohydrochloride with heteroaromatic formaldehydes in good yields. All compounds were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonances and infrared spectroscopies, and the molecular structures of four compounds were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The optical properties of these guanidinium chloride derivatives with fluoride anions were investigated, showing selective color changes from colorless to yellow or orange, red-shifted in the ultraviolet/visible absorption spectra.

The present paper considers prospects for application of various nanoparticles in biology and medicine. Here are presented data on preparation of gold and silver nanoparticles, and effects of shape of these nanoparticles on their optical properties. Application of these nanoparticles in diagnostics, for drug delivery and therapy, and preparation of magnetic nanoparticles from iron and cobalt salts are also discussed. Application of these nanoparticles as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents and as vehicles for drug delivery, and preparation of quantum dots and their application as prospective nanoparticles for multiplex analysis and for visualization of cellular processes will be tackled. Finally, prospects for new types of nanocomposites (metallic nano-shells) will be not overlooked.
