Greece has been severely affected by the global financial and economic crisis, with far-reaching economic, social and political consequences. In 2013, the country was already experiencing its fifth year of recession and was operating within suffocating tax measures. Prior to the crisis, the Greek healthcare system suffered from a wide range of problems. Therefore, it was vulnerable to economic fluctuations and was not properly prepared to meet the changing needs of the population. The aim of this study was firstly to investigate the effect of the economic crisis on the quality of health care in Greece and secondly to propose methods to improve the quality policy of the Greek Health System. A literature review was carried out in order to collect all available information of the relevant literature sources in both Greek and international English-language bibliography. The effects of the economic crisis on the Greek national healthcare system were recorded extendedly. In particular, the effects of the economic crisis on access to health services, the effectiveness of hospital care, the quality of health care provided, the transparency and oversight are analysed. In summary, the need to re-examine and promote a public debate on the health budget, not only in economic terms, but as a development tool for the well-being of citizens, is emphasized. In conclusion, restoring the social values that govern the health care system is a prerequisite for creating a new model for sustainable development

The quality of health care is a very complex feature of the condition and functioning of the health care system, and one of the elements of quality is the satisfaction of the users (patients) provided with health care. In order to evaluate patient satisfaction, there are many opportunities that are provided in order to obtain information about what they think and feel about the healthcare provided. In some institutions there are books of impressions, cases for remarks and praise, nursing surveys, telephone surveys, etc. In this paper, the questionnaire examined the satisfaction of patients with the work of nurses in the Rosulje Family Medicine Clinic. The results of the study show that the patients are very satisfied with the work of the staff in APM Rosulje. Positive attitude towards the work of the clinic is contributed by the long-standing placement of nurses and doctors in the outpatient clinic, the knowledge of patients, their habits and thus better communication and recognition of the patient and family problem.

AbstractThe Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) maintains databases to report independently on the health of Canadians and the performance of their healthcare system. CIHI recently received funding to improve indicator development for tracking quality, because in Canada we really have very few data that allow us to make comparable observations down to a regional or institution-specific interest level. We have a long way to go, and we recognize that collaboration and partnership is the only way that this development will move ahead.

Abstract Background People prefer to age in place and not move into a nursing home as long as possible. The prevention of cognitive and functional impairments is feasible to support this goal. Health services play a key role in providing support for underlying medical conditions. We examined differentials in nursing home admissions between patient sharing networks in Germany and whether potential variations can be attributed to indicators of health care provision. Methods We conducted an ecological study using data of patients of 65 years and above from all 11 AOK statutory health insurance companies in Germany. Nursing home admissions were observed in a cohort of persons becoming initially care-dependent in 2006 (n = 118,213) with a follow-up of up to 10 years. A patient sharing network was constructed and indicators for quality of health care were calculated based on data of up to 6.6 million patients per year. Community detection was applied to gain distinct patient populations. Analyses were conducted descriptively and through regression analyses to identify the variation explained by included quality indicators. Results The difference in the proportion of nursing home admissions between identified clusters shows an interquartile range (IQR) of 12.6% and the average time between onset of care-dependency and admission to a nursing home an IQR of 10,4 quarters. Included quality indicators attributed for 40% of these variations for the proportion of nursing home admissions and 49% for the time until nursing home admission, respectively. Indicators of process quality showed the single highest contribution. Effects of single indicators were inconclusive. Conclusions Health services can support persons in their preference to age in place. Research and discussion on adequate health care for care-dependent persons and on conditions, where nursing home admission may be beneficial, is necessary.
