I propose a close reading on two critical interventions about crime fiction in Argentina: “Estado policial y novela negra argentina” (1991) by José Pablo Feinmann and “Para una reformulación del género policial argentino” (2006) by Carlos Gamerro. Beyond the time difference between the two, I observe aspects in common. Both texts elaborate a corpus of writers and fictions; propose an interpretative guide between the literary and the political-social series; maintain a specific interest in the relationship between crime fiction and police; and elaborate figures of enunciators who serve both as theorists of the genre and as writers of fiction. Among these four dimensions, the one that particularly interests me here is the third, since it allows me to investigate the link that is assumed between “detective fiction” and “police institution”. My conclusion is twofold: on the one hand, in both essays predominates a reductionist vision of the genre, since a kind of necessity is emphasized in the representation of the social order; on the other, its main objective seems to lie in intervening directly on the definitions of the detective fiction in Argentina (and, on this point, both texts acquire an undoubtedly prescriptive nuance).

In this paper, we suggest a speculative comparison between the short story The Color Out of Space (Howard Phillips Lovecraft, 1927) and the documentary film Fireball: Visitors From Darker Worlds (Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer, 2020). We explore the similarities between Herzog’s specific interest in extreme phenomena of Nature and Lovecraftian Cosmicism. We observe that both authors have, to a certain extent, compatible views on the relationship between humans and nature: Herzog and Lovecraft seem to be interested in identifying and investigating humanity’s difficulty in coping with their insignificance when facing catastrophic events caused by indifferent Nature; both chose the same kind of landscape (iced lands, volcanic areas) and extreme natural phenomena (like meteorite falls); and they show a particular interest in characters connected to scientific experiences, and obsessed (even sometimes driven to madness) with the mysteries of nature. Our analysis does not suggest a direct influence of Lovecraft on Herzog, but a productive coincidence that can shed light on the film Fireball and its possible Lovecraftian resonances.

: Poor solubility of some medicinal compounds is a serious challenge that can be addressed by using a nano-suspension for improved delivery. The nanoparticles enhance the bioavailability along with the aqueous solubility of the drug, which is accomplished by increasing the active surface area of the drug. The gained attention of the nanosuspension is due to its stabilization facility, which is achieved by polymers, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), having a particular size range of 10 - 100 nm. Hence, these nanoparticles have the capacity of binding to the targeted with very low damage to the healthy tissues. These are prepared by various methods, such as milling, high-pressure homogenization, and emulsification, along with melt emulsification. Moreover, surface modification and solidification have been used to add specific properties to the advanced therapies as post-processing techniques. For many decades, it has been known that water solubility hampers the bioavailability and not all drugs are water-soluble. In order to combat this obstacle, nanotechnology has been found to be of specific interest. For elevating the bioavailability by increasing the dissolution rate, the methodology of reduction of the associated drug particles into their subsequent submicron range is incorporated. For oral and non-oral administration, these nanosuspension formulations are used for the delivery of drugs.

In this study, the group of finite cyclic lamplighter states is reinterpreted as the novel lamplighter puzzle. The rules of the puzzle are outlined and related back to properties of the lamplighter group with specific interest placed upon the discussion of which puzzle instances are solvable. The paper shows that, through the use of algebra, many puzzle instances can be identified as solvable without the use of an exhaustive search algorithm. Solvability depends upon the creation of irregular generating sets for subgroups of the finite cyclic lamplighter group and the cosets formed by these subgroups. Further possible generalizations of the lamplighter puzzle are also discussed in closing.

Within PAUT, inspectors have the option to apply various scanning techniques for performing weld inspections according to their configurations. These include the sectorial scan (S-scan) or a fixed-angle electronic scan (E-scan), or a combination of both called a compound S-scan. Compound S-scan, introduced around 2015 (Magruder 2016), has not been much explored, as not enough data can be extracted from the available resources to determine its effectiveness for inspection. Therefore, the author has taken a specific interest in studying this technique by comparing the available PAUT scanning techniques and providing options for selecting the most appropriate scanning techniques for the intended applications. For this purpose, a 25 mm thick welder qualification test plate with natural defects (verified by RT) was studied.

The article investigates the oppression of people as well as its resistance in Exod 1-15 and Southern Africa, from an intersectional perspective. The Zimbabwean migrant women embody the intersectional struggles of the working-class people (class), women (gender) and immigrants (internationality) in Southern Africa. This scenario might have been the case in the world of the biblical texts. First, the study outlines the lived experiences of the Zimbabwean migrant women in South Africa in order to highlight the multi-layered and intersectional character of and the resistance of their oppression. Second, the essay probes the resistance of oppression in the Exodus narrative, with a specific interest in women. Third and lastly, the study shows how the intersectionality theory assists us in drawing a broader and relative depiction of the oppression of women in Exod 1-15 and in Southern Africa as well as the need to resist such oppression.

Abstract Resilient qualities, which derive from protective factors, enable an individual to balance exposure to vulnerabilities in military service and throughout life. Protective factors arise from within an individual, from social factors, and from an individual's environment. Research on social factors, such as strong leadership and peer relationships, continues to emerge and significantly relate to resilience. Of specific interest to organisations is how perceptions of leadership contribute to resilience as an individual and social protective factor. Knowing more about how soldiers perceive themselves on authentic leadership and resilience would better help researchers and practitioners understand the contribution of leadership on perceived resilience. The current study examined the perception of authentic leadership in self and first-line leaders with resilience in a population of 179 soldiers (N = 179; M = 26.86 years, SD = 6.42). The results noted a significant correlation between the perception of authentic leadership in oneself and resilience (r = 0.506, p < 0.001). A subsequent analysis examining the perception of authentic leadership in one's first-line leader and subordinate resilience was also significant (r = 0.394, p < 0.001), supporting previous findings. These results demonstrate that perceptions of leadership matter as an individual and social factor in military personnel.

Abstract The recent studies in science learning has a specific interest with 4C’s which are communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. This study explored the students’ 4C’s as they engage with physics concepts relating to alternating currents. This engagement entails students’ interpretation for descriptive questions. Following action research cycle, the study begin with planning the intervention using “ECRA” technique and conducted the activities with 38 Matriculation College students. The analysis attempt to make a connection between students’ ability to construct representational aspects of scientific description with formative achievement. This study systematically describes students’ understanding on the representations signify in the descriptive questions. Data collected from this study were Work Report, review of answers tutor questions, and interviews during observation stage. The finding suggests that, the ECRA technique is enabling students to obtain higher percentage in formative assessment by allowing them to developed richer conceptual understanding. Hence this study suggest that the representational issues in physics questions constructed in essay can be moderated with ECRA technique.

Abstract Folding responses of a set of notch-type compliant joint candidates are first numerically explored before the victorious one is implemented in actuating the deployment of Miura origami-inspired plate structure. The considered notch-type compliant joints are groove, elliptical holes, rectangular holes, and outside LET types. The exploration and examination of the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of these joints include performance indicators such as stress contour, load-deformation, moment-angle, and stiffness-angle relationships for different geometric parameters, with a specific interest in their hysteretic behaviors. Considering various performance features, the groove joints have been identified as the most suitable to be employed as the Miura origami-inspired hinge. The Miura origami-inspired plate folding behaviors are further explored considering various numbers and placements of groove joints. It has been found that the Miura plate performs better with the groove joint compared to that without one and that the single and double groove joint modes are inter-correlated. The study offers a comprehensive understanding of the effects of geometrical variation of numerous compliant joints on the folding behaviors as well as the further implementation of the victorious one in actuating the deployment of the Miura origami-inspired plate structure in accordance with the number and location of the joint.

There is a long-standing association between exceptional cognitive abilities, of various sorts, and neuropsychiatric illness, but it has historically largely been investigated in an exploratory and non-systematic way. One group in which this association has been investigated with more rigor is in subjects who have been identified as twice exceptional; an educational term describing subjects who are both gifted and diagnosed with a neuropsychiatric disability. This term covers multiple conditions, but is of specific interest in particular in the study of autism spectrum disorder. Recent findings have led to the development of a hypothesis that a certain degree of the neurobiology associated with autism might even be advantageous for individuals and could lead to high giftedness, while becoming disadvantageous, once a certain threshold is surpassed. In this model, the same neurobiological mechanisms confer an increasing advantage up to a certain threshold, but become pathological past that point. Twice-exceptional individuals would be exactly at the inflection point, being highly gifted, but also symptomatic at the same time. Here, we review how existing neuroimaging literature on autism spectrum disorder can inform research on twice exceptionality specifically. We propose to study key neural networks with a robust implication in ASD to identify the neurobiology underlying twice-exceptionality. A better understanding of the neural mechanisms of twice exceptionality should help to better understand resilience and vulnerability to neurodevelopmental disorders and tofurther support affected individuals.
