In the present study, an attempt has been made to study the quantitative geomorphological analysis and hydrological characterization of 95 micro-watersheds (MWS) of Baira river watershed in Himachal Pradesh, India with an area of 425.25 Km2. First time in the world, total 173 morphometric parameters have been generated in a single watershed using satellite remote sensing data (i.e. IRS-P6 ResourceSAT-1 LISS-III, LandSAT-7 ETM+, and LandSAT-8 PAN & OLI merge data), digital elevation models (i.e. IRS-P5 CartoSAT-1 DEM, ASTER DEM data), and soI topographical maps of 1: 50,000 scale. The ninety-five micro-watersheds (MWS) of Baira river watershed have been prioritized through the morphometric analysis of different morphometric parameters (i.e. drainage network, basin geometry, drainage texture analysis, and relief characterizes ). The study has concurrently established the importance of geomorphometry as well as the utility of remote sensing and GIS technology for hydrological characterization of the watershed and there for better resource and environmental managements.

The focus of this study is to determine the relationship between land use and water quality in the River Mu drainage basin for effective water quality management. Various land uses in the study area were identified and mapped using Landsat 8 OLI of 2016. Water samples were also collected from 112 sample sites using Stratified Random Sampling methods. The samples were analysed in terms of physicochemical parameters using standard methods. The results of land use and water quality parameters were regressed using Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) to determine whether there exist spatially varying relationships. The results revealed that the local R2 values varied between 0.0 and 0.5, indicating a weak relationship between land use and water pollution, except for mixed forest and pH which recorded local R2 values of 0.7 towards the western region of the study area. This shows that the relationship between the two variables varied spatially across the drainage basin. The one-sample Kolmogorov Smirmov test-p<0.05 revealed that there were significant differences in pH (0.00), EC (0.00), turbidity (0.001), TDS (0.048), DO (0.003), NH4+ (0.002), Ca2+ (0.00), Cl- (0.036), Fe3+ (0.00) and Cr2+ (0.039) across the different sample points, whereas K+ (0.134), PO43- (0.715) and NO3- (0.501) were not significantly different across the different sample points. The study recommended that the procedure for water management be localized to sub-catchment and basin levels, to provide adequate attention to each sub-catchment depending on the level and nature of pollution identified.

Approximately 60,000 tons per day of waste from taconite mining, tailing, are added to the west arm of Lake Superior at Silver Bay. Tailings contain nearly the same amount of quartz and amphibole asbestos, cummingtonite and actinolite in fibrous form. Cummingtonite fibres from 0.01μm in length have been found in the water supply for Minnesota municipalities. The purpose of the research work was to develop a method for asbestos fibre counts and identification in water and apply it for the enumeration of fibres in water samples collected(a) at various stations in Lake Superior at two depth: lm and at the bottom.(b) from various rivers in Lake Superior Drainage Basin.

The Burana Land-Reclamation Board is an interregional water board operating in three regions and five provinces. The Burana Land-Reclamation Board operates over a land area of about 250,000 hectares between the Rivers Secchia, Panaro and Samoggia, which forms the drainage basin of the River Panaroand part of the Burana-Po di Volano, from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines to the River Po. Its main tasks are the conservation and safeguarding of the territory, with particular attention to water resources and how they are used, ensuring rainwater drainage from urban centres, avoiding flooding but ensuringwater supply for crop irrigation in the summer to combat drought. Since the last century the Burana Land-Reclamation Board has been using innovative techniques in the planning of water management schemes designed to achieve the above aims, improving the management of water resources while keeping a constant eye on protection of the environment.

Semakin besar nilai UHI, semakin tinggi perbedaan LSTnya.
