This paper presents combinations of level shifted pulse-width modulation algorithm with conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation methods for cascaded multilevel inverters. In the proposed DPWM a zero sequence signal is injected in sinusoidal reference signal to generate various modulators with easier implementation. The analysis four various control strategies namely Common Carrier (CC), Inverted Carrier (IC), Phase Shifted (PS) and Inverted Phase Shift (IPS) for cascaded multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive has been illustrated. To validate the proposed work experimental tests has been carried out using dSPACE controller. Experimental study proves that using proposed algorithms reduction in common-mode voltage with fewer harmonics along with reduced switching loss for a cascaded multilevel inverter fed motor drive has been achieved.

This paper deals with sensorless vector controlled induction motor in which torque pulsations are reduced with improved input of induction motor. In proposed technique two multi winding transformers are used for generation of 18 sinusoidal signals given to rectifier unit and the rectifier output given as input to 9 level multi level inverter. In this proposed technique gating signals to the inverter switches will be provided through space vector pulse width modulation which considers speed as reference. This configuration was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink.and the simulation results are presented here with improvement in reduction of THD.

A hybrid structured asymmetric switching capacitor multilevel inverter (ASC-MLI) is suggested in this work. The notion behind presenting this topology is to reduce the device count and DC sources as compared with conventional MLI. The step by step operating mode of single phase ASC-MLI is presented and by doing slight modifications the same configuration is used in three phase utility application and electric drive. The proposed configurations utilize major benefits of self-voltage balancing capability of capacitor voltage, which is independent from different load type and modulations index. To generate the switching pulse for corresponding switches the multi-carrier based sinusoidal pulse width modulation (MCS-PWM) technique is used; in addition to this simulation result are obtained using MATLAB/Simulink 2016b software version. Simulation results of an induction motor drive connected as three phase load highlights good performance of 17-level MLI.

Many researches have been dedicated to develop the induction motor drive control strategy used on the railway traction applications. In this paper we propose to investigate and to improve the electric locomotives by using a Field Oriented Control (FOC) strategy of induction motor drive. This induction motor can be powered by a five-stage neutral point inverter controlled by sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) due to good quality for output voltage and The use of fast switches. Both conventional and improved locomotives are simulated in Matlab/Simulink and compared in open loop conditions and closed loop conditions using IP controller, in term of torque response, current harmonic distortions and rotor speed response.

Multilevel inverters (MLI) are becoming more popular over the years for medium and high power applications because of its significant merits over two level inverters. This paper presents an implementation of multicarrier based sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique for three phase seven level diode clamped multilevel inverter. This topology is operated under phase opposition disposition pulse width modulation technique. The performance of three phase seven level diode clamped inverter is analyzed for induction motor (IM) load. Simulation is performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Experimental results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the operation of the diode clamped multilevel inverter using field programmable gate array.
