The study of Structure, Conduct, and Performance (SCP) paradigm is important to evaluate the performance of firms. The study scrutinizes the relationship among SCP paradigm of selected financial firms (Banks, Insurance, Modaraba and Exchange companies) in Pakistan. Panel data of 103 financial firms of Pakistan from 2007 to 2015 is employed for this purpose. Various models of panel data have been employed to find the more parsimonious one. It is concluded that there is positive association among SCP using panel data models and dynamic panel data model. It is recommended that all firms are needed to enhance their management regarding expenditures and they also need to increase the number of shareholders to boost the firm’s performance

This paper examines the asymptotics of the QMLE for unit root dynamic panel data models with spatial effect and fixed effects. We consider a unit root dynamic panel data model with spatially correlated disturbances and a unit root spatial dynamic panel data model. For both models the estimate of the dynamic coefficient is $\root \of {nT^3 }$ consistent and the estimates of other parameters are $\root \of {nT}$ consistent, and all of them are asymptotically normal. For the latter model the sum of the contemporaneous spatial effect and dynamic spatial effect converges at $\root \of {nT^3 }$ rate. We also propose a bias-correction procedure so that the asymptotic biases of those estimates are eliminated as long as n/T3 → 0.

Based on China’s provincial panel data of the export, GDP, trade distance and inbound tourism income from 1997 to 2014, this study examines the export effect of inbound tourism in China, using dynamic panel data models and system GMM estimators. The empirical results for the estimations of the gravity equation demonstrate that inbound tourism promoted China's export through expanding the degree of opening to the outside world, shortening the cultural distance, "advertising effect" and "Marco Polo effect" of business tourism. Inbound tourism has a significant positive export effect, export will increase by 0.135 % when inbound tourism increases by 1%.

This research evaluates the connection between corruption, economic development, and insecurity in several Colombian departments. This chapter explores the dynamics of these variables using two empirical techniques: the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Dynamic Panel Data Model (DPDM). DEA is performed to evaluate social performance in terms of corruption, economic development, and insecurity in Colombian departments with a higher level and risk of corruption and insecurity. Dynamic panel data analysis is performed to define the variables that affect corruption, insecurity, and economic development. The DEA model provides evidence that corruption and insecurity have different trends where economic development, natural resources, and political instability are key factors. The dynamic panel data model applied shows that Colombian departments with a higher level and risk of corruption and insecurity have lower economic growth, development, and social conditions, but higher levels of mineral resources and illegal drug activity, as well as the presence of irregular armed groups.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the effects of bank diversification (i.e. diversification of income and diversification of assets) on Bangladeshi banks’ profitability. Design/methodology/approach Using a dynamic panel data model with system generalized methods of moments, the authors examine an unbalanced panel data from 32 banks spanning 318 bank-year observations from 2007 to 2016. Findings The findings indicate a significant positive association of income diversification and asset diversification on bank profitability. Therefore, the results show that banks can generate profit from diversification of income and diversification of assets. Originality/value One of the rare attempts to investigate the relationship between diversification and profitability in Bangladesh’s banking sector is this report. The authors anticipate the results to have major consequences for Bangladeshi bank regulators and other related economies.
