The services sector is an emerging sector that needs extensive research that can be helpful in managing employees’ emotions. This study aims to examine the effect of perceived organizational support on emotional labor with the mediating role of emotional intelligence. Questionnaire survey method was adapted and data were collected from 370 employees of telecommunication sector through Simple Random Sampling Technique. Hypotheses were tested and analyzed by AMOS. Results showed that POS positively affects deep Acting but has a negative impact on surface acting. Results enlightened that emotional intelligence significantly mediates the relationship between perceived organizational support and emotional labor. The study also revealed the significant relationship of emotional labor and counterproductive work behavior. Surface acting positively and significantly effect on counterproductive work behavior whereas deep acting influence negatively on counterproductive work behavior. Findings also divulged that the relationship of emotional labor and counterproductive work behavior is significantly moderated by emotional intelligence.

This research aims to extend the literature on stress by exploring the relationship between incivility and employees' counterproductive work behavior (CWB). We investigate the mediating role of psychological distress (PD) to understand the relationship of family and workplace incivility with CWB. The study also evaluates the moderation effect of emotional regulation between incivility and PD. Analysis of three-wave lagged data (N=328), collected from bank employees in Pakistan, indicates that PD mediates the effect of family and workplace incivility on CWB and emotional regulation moderates the effect of family and workplace incivility on PD. Our findings highlight the fact that emotional regulation and PD are important mechanisms in the incivility–CWB relationship. The inclusion of these two constructs is a key to understanding the relationships among family incivility, workplace incivility, and work-related outcomes. The paper concludes with a discussion of theoretical and practical implications.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to attempt to investigate how emotional labor strategies (i.e. surface acting and deep acting) affect job performance through job satisfaction. Another important objective of this study was to see whether perceived organizational support (POS) moderates the relationship between emotional labor strategies and job-related outcomes (i.e. job satisfaction and job performance). Design/methodology/approach – Structural equation modeling analysis provided support for the hypotheses from a sample of 309 South Korean department store sales employees. Findings – The results revealed that surface acting had a negative effect, whereas deep acting had a positive effect on job satisfaction. In addition, the relationship between emotional labor strategies (i.e. surface acting and deep acting) and job performance was significantly mediated by job satisfaction. Finally, POS significantly moderated the relationship between surface acting and job satisfaction, as well as the relationship between deep acting and job performance. Originality/value – The findings of this study contributed to the literature by identifying the relationship between surface and deep acting on organizational outcomes (i.e. job satisfaction and job performance), especially in a collectivist society (i.e. South Korea). In addition, this study also confirmed the important role of POS based on the norm of reciprocity between an organization and its members.

Based on emotional labor theory, this cross-sectional quantitative study examines the relationship between the emotional intelligence, emotional labor, counterproductive work behavior (CWB) and organization citizenship behavior (OCB). Data collected from 315 hospital employees through questionnaire. Data was analyzed through PLS-SEM. Findings indicated a statistically significance relationship between the emotional intelligence and emotional labor as well as organization citizenship behavior and counterproductive work behavior. The research highlights the importance of emotional intelligence skills for the favorable working outcomes. It is recommended for the organizations to understand how employees engage in emotional labor strategies (deep acting and surface acting) with both clients and organizational members (insiders) in order to avoid CWB and exhibit OCB. Purpose Emotional intelligence (EI) is crucial to determine the emotional labor (EL) strategies and satisfaction of teachers. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships of EI with EL strategies, emotional exhaustion and teaching satisfaction (TS) of secondary teachers in private schools. Design/methodology/approach A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data conveniently from 322 secondary teachers working in 22 private schools. Findings Results indicate that teachers’ EI positively affect surface acting, expression of naturally felt emotions (ENFE) and TS. Surface acting and ENFE are positively related with TS. Deep acting and ENFE exhibit positive relations with emotional exhaustion of teachers. The study also confirms direct as well as indirect effects of EI on TS through surface acting and ENFE. Practical implications This study recommends teachers to make a higher use of surface acting and ENFE because they produce the most TS and the least emotional exhaustion. Originality/value This is the first study that examines the mediating role of EL strategies for EI and TS.

<p>Job turnover in Generation Y has become a common phenomenon in industry in large cities. They tend to believe that it is not difficult to leave their jobs and not important to immediately settle in an organization. The study aimed to understand the mediating role of organizational commitment (OC) between perceived organizational support (POS) and turnover intention (TO). A purposive sampling technique was used in this study with 284 generation Y employees living in large cities (19-37 years old) as participants. There were three questionnaires used in this study namely Turnover Intention Scale, Organizational Commitment Scale and Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. The investigation discovered that POS positively affected OC and negatively TO. Employing mediation analysis showed that OC was a significant mediator from the relationship of POS and TO. The findings of this research provide organizations with information about how to effectively manage and retain Generation Y employees through POS and OC.</p>
