Organizationally desired display of emotions is the need of today’s organization both in private and public sectors. However, display of emotions or emotional labor and its impact on job satisfaction have been an understudied area in public sector. Therefore, this research examines the impact of emotional labor on emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction. The findings of our study suggest that emotional labor (EL) has a significant positive impact on emotional exhaustion (EE) and job satisfaction (JS) consistent with the earlier research. We have used affective event theory and conservation of resource theory to build our model. Practical and managerial implications of the study are also discussed.

Everyone has to manage the emotions during their interaction with others; similar case is with the leaders in organizations. Leaders’ actively and continually regulate their emotional state. The crucial role of emotions in interactional process as well in decision making triggers leaders to be vigilant about their emotional labor strategies. Thus emotional labor has become an emerging construct in leadership domain. This study has collected data from 250 doctors working in private and public hospitals in Gujranwala. Findings demonstrated leaders’ deep acting as well as displaying natural emotions are positively associated with job satisfaction and negatively associated with leaders’ emotional exhaustion. Moreover, surface acting has significant positive relationship with leaders’ emotional exhaustion and negative relationship with leaders’ job satisfaction. Psychological capital significantly moderated the relationship between leaders’ emotional labor strategies, leaders’ job satisfaction and leaders’ emotional exhaustion.

AbstractThis article evaluates the impact of academic research in management and business on a sample of the leaders of Australia's largest companies and public sector organizations. The data from a questionnaire survey conducted in 2005 indicate that the impact of the collective research outputs of business/management academics on senior private and public sector leaders is almost non-existent. The implications of these findings for the conduct of research in business and management in the future are evaluated, as well as the emerging challenges we face from new non-university research and business/management education providers. The broader consequences of a possible paradigm shift from a largely academic research/teaching orientation, towards a more explicitly professional and business/industry orientation are discussed towards the end of the article.

Abstract Background: The relationship between organizational mission and vision statements, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction has been discussed vastly in previous research, both in the domain of public sector organizations and in profit organizations. Objectives: The goal is to investigate if there are differences in organizational commitment and job satisfaction between employees who are familiar with the mission and vision of their organization, compared to those who are not familiar with them. Methods/Approach: A survey research has been conducted on a sample of 114 employees in private and public sector organizations in the Republic of Croatia. Data were analysed using a t-test to determine the differences between two groups of respondents, i.e. those who are familiar with the visions and mission of their organisation, and those who are not. Results: There are differences in job satisfaction levels between employees who are familiar with the mission and vision of the organization in which they are employed and those who are not. Furthermore, differences are particularly evident in the group of public sector employees. Conclusions: The presence of awareness of the organizational mission and vision among employees has a positive effect on their job satisfaction. This is possibly an indicator of the organization’s culture, which fosters positive values embedded in the organizational vision and mission.

Orientation: Literature shows that job description and career prospect are connected to job satisfaction and it is seen that, in Mauritius, job description and career prospect impact job satisfaction.Research purpose: The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between job description, career prospect and job satisfaction in Mauritius.Motivation for the study: It has been noticed that employees are dissatisfied when they perform duties outside their job description and also when they see that they do not have a good career prospect. Despite the existence of several researches, limited research exists in the Mauritian context. The outcome will provide significant relevance to existing knowledge.Research approach/design and method: A quantitative approach was adopted and a survey was conducted in a multinational company in Mauritius. A sample of 132 employees was chosen.Main findings: This research unravelled significant negative relationships between job description, career prospect and job satisfaction. The results revealed that, when duties are not well described or when duties are not in line with current responsibilities, the employees are dissatisfied. Similarly, the greater the chances that employees are not given the opportunity to get promoted, the more they are dissatisfied.Practical/managerial implications: Human resource practitioners, managers and team leaders need to recognise that employee’s moods influence the work pattern in the organisation and a clear job description and an appropriate career plan should exist.Contribution/value-add: Literature on the relationship between job description, career prospect and job satisfaction in the context of Mauritius is almost inexistent. This study will add to existing knowledge.

South Australian private and public sector organizations directly influence the quality and quantity of graduates through ownership of a unique cooperative education undergraduate course in business information systems. Sponsors meet monthly to set objectives and oversee management of the programme within the University framework. Academics work with sponsors to deliver educational objectives and to strengthen links with industry. The outcomes have been students' success in attaining high levels of academic performance; graduates' success in securing appropriate career positions; and employers' satisfaction with graduate employee's productivity and rapid assimilation into industry. These measurements of success vindicate an early decision to make industry the ‘owners' of the programme.
