To avoid unnecessary power loss during switching between the various power sources of a composite electric vehicle while achieving smooth operation, this study focuses on the development and dynamic simulation analysis of a control system for the power of a parallel composite vehicle. This system includes a power integration and distribution mechanism, which enables the two power sources of the internal combustion engine and electric motor to operate independently or in coordination to meet the different power-output requirements. The integration of the electric motor and battery-charging engine reduces the system complexity. To verify the working efficiency of the energy control strategy for the power system, the NEDC2000 cycle is used for the vehicle driving test, a fuzzy logic controller is established using Matlab/Simulink, and the speed and torque analysis of the components related to power system performance are conducted. Through a dynamic simulation, it is revealed that this fuzzy logic controller can adjust the two power sources (the motor and internal combustion engine) appropriately. The internal combustion engine can be maintained in the optimal operating region with low, medium, and high driving speeds.

Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) have been postulated as suitable systems for power generation in the fields of portable power sources, remote and micro-distributed energy generation, and auxiliary power units (APU). The main objective of the DURAMET project ((http://www.duramet.eu) is to develop cost-effective components for DMFCs with enhanced activity and stability in order to reduce stack costs and improve performance and durability. The project concerns with the development of DMFC components for application in auxiliary power units and portable systems.

This paper is a summarization of the application of gas turbines for Coast Guard shipboard use. Included are discussions of turbine applications in present use and their results, vessels presently being built which will employ gas turbines, and possible future applications of gas turbines both for main and auxiliary power aboard Coast Guard vessels. Comparisons of gas turbines with other power sources as to weight, space, fuel consumption and economy are included for the presently known applications.

The development of modern technologies and their increasing availability, as well as the falling costs of highly efficient propulsion systems and power sources, have resulted in electric or hybrid propulsions systems’ growing popularity for use on watercraft. Presented in the paper are design and lab tests of a prototype parallel hybrid propulsion system. It describes a concept of retrofitting a conventionally powered nine meter-long vessel with the system, and includes results of power and efficiency measurements, as well as calculations of the vessel’s operating range under the propulsion of its electric motor. The concept of adding of a solar panels array was studied.

Background: Auxiliary power sources (LED and laser) are used in in-office teeth bleaching techniques to accelerate the redox reaction of the whitening gel to increase ease of use, to improve comfort and safety, and to decrease the procedure time. Objective: The aim this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the teeth whitening procedures performed with hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide, LED or Laser activated. Method: 18 patients, affected by exogenous dyschromia, were treated with a bleaching agent composed by 35% hydrogen peroxide and 10% carbamide peroxide. They were divided into two groups: in the first group the bleaching agent was activated by a LED lamp; in the second group it was activated by a Laser diode lamp. Both groups were subjected to 3 bleaching cycle of 15’ each. The chromatic evaluations were performed before and after one week from the treatment, using a chromatic scale and a spectrophotometer. The mean value of pre, post bleaching and follow-up were analyzed using a T-test, with results statistically significant for P<0,05. Results: Results showed that the variations in brightness, chroma and hue are significantly influenced by the interaction between the whitening agent and the original colour of the teeth. Laser-activation has marginally improved the bleaching effectiveness. All patients treated with laser activation complained an increase in dental sensitivity. Conclusion: The use of laser-activating systems did not improve the efficacy of bleaching.

This study investigates the experimental test bench specially created fortestingaplanetary mechanism with two degrees of freedom in the configuration of hybrid electric vehicle powertrain. For the experimental study, it was necessary to build a test bench that consists of a metal frame on which other mechanical and electrical components are positioned: the mechanical coupling system, the thermal engine, a three-phase electric motor and an alternator. The test bench can simulate road load, during which time it is measured with the help ofa torque sensor the mechanical moment developed by the electric motor used in this configuration.
