This study examines the impact of procedural justice on two dimensions of Organizational Citizenship Behavior(OCB) viz. Organizational Citizenship Behavior Individual (OCBI) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Organization (OCBO) with mediating role of workplace envy among health professionals in Pakistan. The data was collected from 110 health professionals through questionnaires. Results indicate that though procedural justice is significantly associated with both dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior, the mediation of workplace envy is not established in case of relationship between procedural justice and OCBI. Implications that can help hospitals of Pakistan in augmenting the OCB are also discussed.

BACKGROUND Employee retention has been studied by researchers in relation to many factors. Cost of losing talented employees in much higher than recruiting and training the new ones. Past studies have shown abundant research and importance of chosen variables in different relationships. This study is unique in terms of studying the mediating role of organizational citizenship behavior and moderating role of communication in the selected model. OBJECTIVE This study investigates the impact of transformational leadership on employee retention in SMEs. Furthermore, this study examines the mediating role of organizational citizenship behavior and the moderating role of communication. METHODS Based on random sampling, 505 employees from SMEs were selected to response the constructed questionnaire. Smart PLS structured equation model (PLS-SEM) was used to estimate the various relationships. RESULTS The findings of the study reveal that there is a positive and significant relationship in transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. Similarly, this study found positive and significant relationship in organizational citizenship behavior and employee retention. In addition, organizational citizenship behavior had a positive mediating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee retention. Furthermore, communication positively moderates transformational leadership, organizational citizenship employee retention relationships. CONCLUSIONS This study examines the mediation of organizational citizenship behavior and the moderation of communication which have been less studied in the literature. Findings revealed that transformational leadership and communication plays a significant role in relation of organizational citizenship behavior and employee retention. As such, management of SMEs need to pay particular attention to these variables, to retain employees for enhanced productivity and organizational growth.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the relationships between two dimensions of communication satisfaction – personal feedback and supervisory communication – on outcomes such as altruistic organizational citizenship behavior and civic virtue. Another aim is to examine the mediating role of organizational justice (OJ) between these two dimensions of communication satisfaction and altruistic organizational citizenship behavior and civic virtue. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on a survey conducted in major organizations in Macau SAR, China. Data from 294 respondents who successfully completed the questionnaire is used for the analysis. Findings The results reveal that supervisory communication is significantly and positively associated with altruistic organizational citizenship behavior. Both personal feedback and supervisory communication are significantly and positively associated with civic virtue. OJ is a mediator between personal feedback and civic virtue. OJ also mediates the relationship between satisfaction with supervisory communication and civic virtue. It is intriguing that OJ is not a mediator in the relationship between satisfaction with communication and altruistic organizational citizenship behavior. Research limitations/implications A single city cross-sectional study presents some restrictions on the generalizability of the findings. More studies are needed to understand communication satisfaction – organizational citizenship behavior processes to establish if the findings hold with other samples in other cultures. Practical implications The empirical evidence in this study shows that satisfaction with communication is critical for promoting discretionary behaviors. The mediating roles of OJ between personal feedback and civic virtue and between supervisory communication and civic virtue, clearly indicate that even though a manager may try hard to motivate employees’ participation in discretionary behaviors, whether employees participate in extra-role behaviors depends on their perception of justice. Originality/value This is the first study to examine how altruistic organizational citizenship behavior and civic virtues are influenced by satisfaction with communication. Moreover, the mediating role of OJ has never been tested previously. The findings contribute to the HR literature and provide deeper insights on how to promote citizenship behavior.

This research is aimed to investigate the effects of workplace diversity on organizational citizenship behavior with the mediating role of inclusion. Today the problems faced by the organization’s executives are to develop a culture that gives value to differences and enhances the efficiency of the entire workforce. Employees of the IT sector of Lahore are selected as respondents and the data is collected through an adapted questionnaire. The sample size is 368 and convenience sampling is used. Regression analysis is applied to evaluate the data through SPSS software. Findings show that workforce diversity decreases organizational citizenship behavior but this relationship can be modified by applying the mediating role of inclusion. Results will help out the decision-making authorities to understand how effective workplace diversity management influences the employee’s citizenship behaviors.

The current study seeks to analyze the impact of the tangible and intangible rewards on organizational effectiveness with the mediating role of organizational citizenship behavior. The study utilized a quantitative research design for that the data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The sample size was 342. The study framework had 4 constructs namely tangible rewards, intangible rewards, organizational citizenship behavior, and organizational effectiveness. Two of the variables (tangible and intangible rewards) were independent variables, organizational effectiveness was dependent variable and organizational citizenship behavior was mediating variables. All the latent construct was measured using multi items based on 5 point Likert scales from 1 strongly disagree to 5 strongly disagree. The data collection instrument was developed referring to past researches done on the seminal researches. Structural Equation Modelling was used to analyze the data. The results suggested the significant relationship of tangible and intangible rewards with organizational effectiveness directly and through the mediation of organizational citizenship behavior.
