PALAVRAS-CHAVE: educação a distância; multiletramentos; TICs; linguagem; comunicação. Abstract: This paper aims to present some reflections on the contributions of the multiliteracy concept and the use of information and communication technologies ( ICTs) in the distance education modality. For the presentation of these reflections, it is intended to consider the theoretical assumptions originated from literacy theories, more specifically from multiliteracies. The association of images, audio and video, with or without written texts , especially with the ICTs, new ways of literacy of their users are required, once the construction of meanings begins to happen by means of varied modes (multimodalities). In other words, the ICTs lead to reflections on literacy, expanding the concept to the multiliteracies regarded as fundamental to the teaching and learning processes in the contemporary world at all levels, precisely by considering the impact resulting from the use of technological resources that has triggered new visions for the distance education area. KEY WORDS: distance learning; multiliteracies; ICTs; language;communication.

Recent changes in information and communication technologies have significantly impacted teaching and learning processes. Methods of doing business have also changed. Many experts now recommend that students’ educational experiences be reformed to better prepare students for their future, which entails incorporating technology in the teaching process. The objective of this study is to assess the importance of technology and good instructional materials on two educational systems – distance and traditional systems. We conclude, among others, that good instructional materials should be clear, precise, and must deliver accurate message as were initially designed to do irrespective of traditional or distance educational system. We further conclude that whereas technology may have greater influence on distance education than on the traditional classroom system, however, when applied appropriately, technology will also enhance learning in the traditional classroom system. Students will comprehend faster, and it will make the teaching task less difficult. Education planners and instructors must ensure that application of technology; especially in distance education does not jeopardize the quality of learning.

With the advancement and increasing adoption of information and communication technologies, 3D virtual worlds, being a part of these revolutionary forces, have the potential to make a major contribution to design education as a new teaching and learning environment. Considering this changing trend, we have been employing 3D virtual worlds in the design curriculum over the past decade. To critically understand the impact of the technologies on design education, this chapter explores and demonstrates three different assessment methods of 3D virtual worlds in design education, through three case studies. The chapter also concludes with insights into the applications of virtual environments in collaborative design teaching.

With the phenomenal developments in information and communication technologies, higher education has been facing an unprecedented challenge that affects all the stakeholders. Faculty is no exception. The authors synthesize the demographic, economic, and pedagogical factors that lead to a paradigm shift in higher education and the global trends in digital technologies that impel digital transformation in higher education. They then provide a snapshot of how higher education institutions respond to this challenge and change, and the impact of these factors on the roles and competencies of faculty that need to be covered in faculty development initiatives in the digital age. Finally, examples of faculty development programs and initiatives that address the digital competencies of faculty are provided along with a summary of faculty development models for teaching and learning in the digital age.

This introductory chapter discusses the relationship between social change, religion, and women's lives and self-definition in the contemporary world. Using international and interdisciplinary perspectives reflective of different religious traditions, this volume pays attention to the specific experiences and positions of women, or particular groups of women, to understand current patterns of religiosity and religious change. Recent studies have shown that there is a strong connection between processes of change — such as the impact of globalization, increased intercultural and transcultural interaction and exchange, migration flows, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) — and religious identities. Overall, recent literature has revealed a great complexity and often contradiction in late modern negotiations of religion and secularism by women and men, and a range of possibilities for change.

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) integration in the teaching and learning practices of educational systems. The study is carried out by reviewing various literatures and studies on the ideas of ICT and its usage in teaching and learning practices. The study reveals that ICT is vital to transform the teaching and learning process and has a great importance for both teachers and students. It also looks at the definitions of ICT as given by different scholars. Lack of well-equipped ICT tools, beliefs and commitments of teachers as well as students on Technology-based Teaching and Learning practices are the main challenges of ICT implementation in education successfully.

The learning processes of the academic year 2019/2020 were characterized by a great change: the general suspension of teaching in presence and the synchronous and asynchronous start of lessons due to the spread of the Sars-Cov-2 virus (Covid-19). This change required teachers of all types and institutional grades to re-design educational activities using information and communication technologies. The International Conference on «Didactics and university didactics: Theories, cultures, practices» at the test of the Covid- 19 Lockdown, had as its objective the comparison between experts who have returned, on the basis of empirical evidences, a picture of the impact that the use of ICT has determined on the learning and socialization of pupils and on the autonomy of the various scholastic and university institutions.

A technological society in permanent evolution requires teaching professionals with continuous training. Among the main teaching skills that teachers must currently acquire during process of initial training, we emphasize the educational use of Information and Communication Technologies (in Spanish its acronym is TIC) and teamwork. Through this innovation experience focused on developing a workflow based on cooperative learning using CourseLab application, specific student skills are required in PC use, navigation through Internet and ability for teamwork and problem resolution. Definitely, we pretend to complete training of future teachers in ICT environments, so they could perform teaching / learning processes in order to match students interests and motivations, and may contribute to improvement of school success. Results of this study indicate that training teachers demand the use of similar tools to motivate themselves and adapt to teaching and learning processes. We conclude with a positive assessment of both experience and development of the subject.
