Over the last decades, biometrics has become an important way for human identification in many areas, since it can avoid frauds and increase the security of individuals in society. Nowadays, most popular biometric systems are based on fingerprint and face features. Despite the great development observed in Biometrics, an important challenge lasts, which is the automatic people identification in low-resolution videos captured in unconstrained scenarios, at a distance, in a covert and noninvasive way, with little or none subject cooperation. In these cases, gait biometrics can be the only choice. The goal of this work is to propose a new method for gait recognition using information extracted from 2D poses estimated over video sequences. For 2D pose estimation, our method uses OpenPose, an open-source robust pose estimator, capable of real-time multi-person detection and pose estimation with high accuracy and a good computational performance. In order to assess the new proposed method, we used two public gait datasets, CASIA Gait Dataset-A and CASIA Gait Dataset-B. Both datasets have videos of a number of people walking in different directions and conditions. In our new method, the classification is carried out by a 1-NN classifier. The best results were obtained by using the chi-square distance function, which obtained 95.00% of rank-1 recognition rate on CASIA Gait Dataset-A and 94.22% of rank-1 recognition rate on CASIA Gait Dataset-B, which are comparable to state-of-the-art results.

English letters cannot be recognized by the Hopfield Neural Network if it contains noise over 50%. This paper proposes a new method to improve recognition rate of the Hopfield Neural Network. To advance it, we add the Gaussian distribution feature to the Hopfield Neural Network. The Gaussian filter was added to eliminate noise and improve Hopfield Neural Network’s recognition rate. We use English letters from ‘A’ to ‘Z’ as training data. The noises from 0% to 100% were generated randomly for testing data. Initially, we use the Gaussian filter to eliminate noise and then to recognize test pattern by Hopfield Neural Network. The results are we found that if letters contain noise between 50% and 53% will become reverse phenomenon or unable recognition [6]. In this paper, we propose to uses multiple filters to improve recognition rate when letters contain noise between 50% and 53%.

According to the trend of the intelligent monitoring system, on the basis of the study of gait recognition algorithm, the intelligent monitoring system is designed based on FPGA and DSP; On the one hand, FPGA’s flexibility and fast parallel processing algorithms when designing can be both used to avoid that circuit can not be modified after designed; On the other hand, the advantage of processing the digital signal of DSP is fully taken. In the feature extraction and recognition, Zernike moment is selected, at the same time the system uses the nearest neighbor classification method which is more mature and has good real-time performance. Experiments show that the system has high recognition rate.

Introduction: Nowadays human gait identification/recognition is available in a variety of applications due to rapid advances in biometrics technology. This makes them easier to use for security and surveillance. Due to the rise in terrorist attacks during the last ten years research has focused on the biometric traits in these applications and they are now capable of recognising human beings from a distance. The main reason for my research interest in Gait biometrics is because it is unobtrusive and requires lower image/video quality compared to other biometric traits. Materials and Methods: In this paper we propose investigating Kinect-based gait recognition using non-standard gait sequences. This study examines different scenarios to highlight the challenges of non-standard gait sequences. Gait signatures are extracted from the 20 joint points of the human body using a Microsoft Kinect sensor. Results and Discussion: This feature is constructed by calculating the distances between each two joint points from the 20 joint points of the human body provided which is known as the Euclidean Distance Feature (EDF). The experiments are based on five scenarios, and a Linear Discriminant Classifier (LDC) is used to test the performance of the proposed method. Conclusions: The results of the experiments indicate that the proposed method outperforms previous work in all scenarios.

Palm vein pattern recognition is one of the newest biometric techniques researched today.At present, literatures selecte the center of the palm as the ROI of palm vein recognition. However the vein image in this area is not clear in some peoples palm. In this paper, we proposed a new location method of ROI which takes thenar area as the ROI. In the experiment part, it compares the recognition rate between the new and the traditional ROI in self-established contactless palm vein database. The result shows that this new method has got the recognition rate of 98.9258% and has increased recognition rate 2.0911% compared with the traditional one.

Human gait recognition is one of the most promising biometric technologies, especially for unobtrusive video surveillance and human identification from a distance. Aiming at improving recognition rate, in this paper we study gait recognition using deep learning and propose a novel method based on convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (Conv-LSTM). First, we present a variation of Gait Energy Images, i.e. frame-by-frame GEI (ff-GEI), to expand the volume of available Gait Energy Images (GEI) data and relax the constraints of gait cycle segmentation required by existing gait recognition methods. Second, we demonstrate the effectiveness of ff-GEI by analyzing the cross-covariance of one person’s gait data. Then, making use of the temporality of our human gait, we design a novel gait recognition model using Conv-LSTM. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated extensively based on the CASIA Dataset B for cross-view gait recognition, furthermore the OU-ISIR Large Population Dataset is employed to verify its generalization ability. Our experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms other algorithms based on these two datasets. The results indicate that the proposed ff-GEI model using Conv-LSTM, coupled with the new gait representation, can effectively solve the problems related to cross-view gait recognition.

A novel method is proposed in this paper to improve the recognition accuracy of Local Binary Pattern (LBP) on low-resolution face recognition. More precise descriptors and effectively face features can be extracted by combining multi-scale blocking center symmetric local binary pattern (CS-LBP) based on Gaussian pyramids and weighted principal component analysis (PCA) on low-resolution condition. Firstly, the features statistical histograms of face images are calculated by multi-scale blocking CS-LBP operator. Secondly, the stronger classification and lower dimension features can be got by applying weighted PCA algorithm. Finally, the different classifiers are used to select the optimal classification categories of low-resolution face set and calculate the recognition rate. The results in the ORL human face databases show that recognition rate can get 89.38% when the resolution of face image drops to 12[Formula: see text]10 pixel and basically satisfy the practical requirements of recognition. The further comparison of other descriptors and experiments from videos proved that the novel algorithm can improve recognition accuracy.
