Within practical placements, Australian pre-service teachers acquire a range of skills and strategies. This is in addition to linking the theory that they acquire at university to that in the classroom context. In 2020, to ensure that the pre-service teachers in education courses continue this practical component of their degree, remote and flexible placements were negotiated between the schools and the university. These changes were embedded in order for pre-service teachers to work with schools, students and mentors and they did so from within their homes. This chapter focuses on the experiences from three pre-service teachers during their time on practicum in remote and flexible contexts. A case study approach was applied to analyse each individual’s experiences. The case studies highlight the commonalities in experiences for each individual pre-service teacher. Upon analysis of these case studies, these commonalities included implications around how these capabilities were being formed and developed throughout the placement. These capabilities included inference, deduction, pivoting and empathy. These common capabilities across the pre-service teacher’s experiences, during their remote and flexible placement, highlight the need for a new narrative around the emerging skills, strategies and capabilities for teacher education in the 21st Century.

This article outlines one way in which less research-intensive universities can contribute to entrepreneurship by examining the achievements of several Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) in the University of Gloucestershire. The article adopts a qualitative case study approach: four case studies of KTPs at, respectively, Beacons Business Interiors, Dowty Propellers, Energist UK and Muddy Boots Software (all of which have operating bases within 40 miles of the University) are researched and analysed. The findings reveal that these four KTPs delivered various benefits for the companies, the University and the staff directly involved in the projects, and more generally that the KTPs successfully met their initial aims. The authors identify a number of challenges involved in maximizinig the benefits of KTP activity in the University and suggest how KTPs can actively foster the development of an entrepreneurial university. This article is an accessible review of KTP initiatives in the University of Gloucestershire and as such will interest academics and business practitioners who are looking to develop university–industry partnerships. It also offers reflections on how a programme of KTPs can advance entrepreneurial development and support Growth Hub initiatives.

Entrepreneurial education offers valuable opportunities for teachers to foster and enhance creativity and action competence, which are also important for sustainability education. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is a leader in the development of entrepreneurial education in teacher education both in Wales and internationally. The objective of this article is to shed light on how an entrepreneurial education approach can help foster social change. The aim of this study is to learn from teacher educators at UWTSD about how they support creativity, innovation, and an enterprising mindset in their learners. A case study approach is applied. By analysing documentary evidence such as module and assignment handbooks, we explore how teacher educators at UWTSD deliver entrepreneurial education for social change. Our findings indicate that UWTSD’s development of entrepreneurial education in teacher training has enabled constructive learning, cultivating creativity and action competence. We provide examples that display how the intentions of the Curriculum for Wales and entrepreneurial education approaches of the UWTSD emerge in practice. These examples show outcomes of the entrepreneurial projects that evince the enactment of social change. The findings also show that the educational policy of Wales supports entrepreneurial education throughout all levels of the educational system.

Abstract Information-Integration is vital for keeping manufacturing operations competitive. A case study approach has been adopted to better understand the role of information in integrated manufacturing. Information is now considered a corporate asset. Creation, processing, movement, and security of information is therefore as important as that of the products/services of an enterprise. The case studies have helped in identifying the issues involved in developing an information system and supporting software framework for a manufacturing enterprise. The case studies have helped in refining an integration model, and identifying the characteristics desirable in modeling methodologies and tools. This paper describes a case study dealing with integrated manufacture of optical fiber products. A phased development and implementation approach was adopted where a small, manageable slice of the system is considered for the case study followed by functional modeling (IDEF0) and data flow modeling (Data Flow Diagrams). This identifies the pieces of information of interest. The information relationships are modeled using Extended Entity Relationship (EER) diagrams which are then mapped on to a relational model. The relational tables thus obtained were implemented on a commercial Database Management System. The functional constraints and application interfaces were then built using SQL and commercial application interface tools. The sections in the paper describe the functional models, data flow diagrams, EER diagrams, relational database design, and user/application interfaces developed for the system. Implementation experiences and observations are discussed followed by plans for the next phase of the system.

<em>This research aims to reveal how the national character and pedagogic competence have oriented to 21st Century Skills for Students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. This research used to qualitative that using case study approach. This research took place at UPI Campus Purwakarta. Informants at this time are: (1) leadership; (2) lecturers; and (3) students. Data analysis techniques using interactive models Miles and Huberman, namely: data collection, data condensation, display data, and concusion: drawing / verifying. The results of this research is the process of strengthening national character and mastery of pedagogic potential for PGSD UPI Students Purwakarta Campus is in accordance with the needs of 21st century skills. The learning process includes: (1) Project Based Learning; (2) Religious Tutorials; (3) Extracurricular Field Practices; and (4) Video Projects themed Local Wisdom. Through this method, they can help them to work in the world and be able to utilize pedagogic's teachers</em>

Design-based case studies allow researchers to examine instructional innovations that are bounded by perspective, context, and time. Design-based case study is an approach that blends case study research with design-based research in order to more systematically examine the process and products of an intervention. This approach provides a framework for engaging in iterative cycles of data collection and analysis to determine if, how, and why goals of instructional innovations have been met. This chapter provides an overview of the design-based case study approach and responds to common concerns surrounding case study and design-based research and how design-based case studies address these concerns by building on the strengths of both approaches.

This chapter introduces a storied learning model to create opportunities for praxis within teacher education courses in order to humanize student experiences through book clubs. As many argue that people perceive the world in narrative form, embedding book clubs within methods courses creates opportunities for pre-service teachers to explore and reflect upon unfamiliar experiences, identities, and stories in order to cultivate their critical consciousness. Building off of Bishop's metaphor of mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors, as well as existing literature that discusses the use of book clubs in pre-service teacher methods courses, two case studies are offered highlighting theoretical and practical ways for book clubs to be embedded within methods courses. Case studies are followed by a framework for implementation that considers research in both critical pedagogy and reading comprehension.

This study explored the career outcomes for Latinx doctoral students and the contextual factors of their educational experience influencing these outcomes. A case-study approach is taken to examine the cases of doctoral students at the University of Michigan. These students were tracked each year, for 10 years post-graduation. Furthermore, an analysis of programmatic efforts to develop doctoral students and prepare them for the marketplace is also described as institutional structures that support career success.

AbstractThis paper offers one of the first efforts at exploring the role of charity flea markets as a fundraising practice used by nonprofits to mobilize various resources like individual and corporate in-kind giving and volunteering in an unique event setting. With the support of volunteers, nonprofits generate cash by reselling product donations and by catering. As an innovative contribution to the so far limited research on flea markets and in-kind giving, our study uses an explorative case study approach based on guided interviews with Austrian flea market operators. The purpose of the case studies is to examine the specifics, benefits, challenges, and prospects of this underexplored funding instrument. Our findings contribute to an enhanced understanding of both charity flea markets and nonprofits̕ resource management and can assist charities in processing in-kind donations effectively and sustainably.

Manufacturers tend to carry out certain important and continuous activities with respect to internal operations which could contribute to their success. These activities are termed organization critical activities (OCAs). The main objective of this study is to elicit the OCAs in the manufacturing industry to understand what can cause them to be successful. Through the case study approach including the interviews with the senior managers from three manufacturing companies in Taiwan and a series of prioritizing activities, 12 OCAs have been identified. This study found that Taiwanese manufacturers placed more importance on the activities of quality and cost control while placed relatively less importance on the marketing related activities. More findings and future research suggestions are also provided.
