Challenging the Rapid Learner
Elementary school teachers have been charged with the problem of further developing the gifted or talented child in arithmetic. This is an area in which many have done something but in which no one has done enough. The following suguestions are not offered as a panacea for the situation but as practical ideas that may be used and from which others may be developed. In this way it is hoped an additional avenue will be opened for creative thinking in this area. It is intended that these suggestions will be beneficial to any teacher who in some way offers differentiated assignments for the more adept in arithmetic. These procedures should be of assistance in programs utilizing homogeneous sectioning, special teachers, sub-grouping, acceleration, or enrichment.
