Information literacy competencies indicate the ability of an individual to apply a certain search strategy of information discovery, to understand its design, to value judgement, and to use it in various contents and contexts. The influence of information literacy competencies plays an important role in enabling information users to meet their information needs and prepares them for lifelong learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of information literacy competencies of users in the Saulsville public library, South Africa. The rationale was a lack of awareness and the inability of the users to find their information needs based on the task and decision at hand. The descriptive survey design adopted for this study made use of a questionnaire to collect data from 1 120 registered members of the Saulsville library. Of the 1 120 registered users being the population for the study, the authors purposively used 10 per cent (112 members) of the population as sample size. The findings revealed that users of the Saulsville public library had limited awareness and competencies of information literacy. The users were exposed to some form of library orientation and the use of library resources during their visit to the library. The findings further indicated that the users’ information literacy competencies were affirmed through the quality of information obtained and the satisfaction of library services rendered by library staff. The study recommends the acquisition of new technologies that could enhance users’ interactive information literacy training in public libraries and formal education settings.

Cats can be easily stressed in a clinical (training) setting and may show unpredictable reactions and patterns of defensive aggression. This can be a complicating factor in undergraduate veterinary training. Inexperienced veterinary students can evoke defensive feline behavior that negatively affects learning outcomes and animal welfare. As a result, restraint techniques and physical examination of cats was hardly practiced in pre-clinical training at Utrecht University. To overcome this, a new blended learning module was developed using a lecture on feline behavior; e-learning modules about feline behavior, handling, restraint, and physical examination skills; and redesigned practical sessions in which live animals and manikins were used. The aim of this study was to investigate how students’ perceptions of competence and confidence changed regarding feline behavior, handling, restraint, and physical examination skills after the new module was implemented. Questionnaires were used for quantitative analysis, and focus groups were used for qualitative analysis. The results show that compared with students who followed the standard module, students who participated in the blended learning module scored higher in feeling confident with handling animals, feeling competent to perform physical examination on cats, and ability to assess whether a cat is stressed. Students with less experience with cats were more likely to show improvement in assessing a cat’s stress level than students who had much experience with cats. The results demonstrate that the blended learning module improves students’ learning outcomes regarding feline skills training and adds to reduction, refinement, and replacement of the use of live cats.

Abstract                                                                    This study aims to find out how the integration of information literacy substnce in distance training on biological substance for Madrasah Aliyah (MA) in improving information literacy skills in MA biology teachers. In this study the teacher participated in Distance  Training on MA biological material that was integrated with information literacy substance. The research sample consisted of 26 participants in Distance Training  in  Biology Substance for Biology Teacher Aliyah Madrasah in the Bandung Religious Education Training Center originating from the Ministry of Religion of West Java Province. The research design used was pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttes design. The design procedure of this study was to take the 1st measurement on the subject (pretest) on the ability of mastery of information literacy, then the subject was treated for a certain period (exposure) through education and training in e-learning based distance training deepening of Biology Substance. The second measurement (posttest) was carried out after the treatment was given, and the prestest measurement results were compared with the results of the posttest measurements, using the t-test statistical test. Based on the t-test it can be concluded that "There is a significant difference in the results of self-assessment of information literacy between before and after doing Distance Learning Training".Abstrak                                                                     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana integrasi materi literasi informasi pada kurikulum pendidikan dan pelatihan Diklat jarak jauh (DJJ) pendalaman materi biologi Madrasah Aliyah (MA) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan literasi informasi pada guru biologi MA.

Purpose The study aims to investigate the role of information literacy competencies regarding the impact of personality factors on knowledge sharing behavior in information services. Design/methodology/approach A sequential mixed-methods approach was used as the research design. To construct the two less identified variables of knowledge sharing behavior and information literacy competencies in actual information services, the literature existed were searched and validated in a systematic review procedure. Two conceptual models including two initial questionnaires were developed, which were then confirmed by a set of 10 related experts through semi-structured interviews. For gathering data related to the variable personality factors, the Five-Factor Inventory was used as a widely recognized measure. The sample population of the quantitative section constituted of a set of 160 librarians working in the central libraries of the state universities located at Tehran, Iran. Data analysis was conducted through structural equation modeling using software SmartPLS. Findings The results showed that the personality factors had a positive and significant impact on information literacy competencies with a path coefficient of 0.48 and information literacy competencies skills had a positive and significant effect on the knowledge sharing behavior with a path coefficient of 0.47. However, with a path coefficient of 0.02, the personality factors had no direct effect on the knowledge sharing behavior while its indirect impact was then confirmed by the mediating role of information literacy competencies. Originality/value To achieve the desired knowledge sharing behavior, there should be concerns about the information literacy competencies of the librarians. Moreover, the knowledge sharing behavior of the librarians should be more taken into consideration concerning their personality factors.
