To investigate the seismic behavior of joint between special-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column and H-section steel beam, a pseudo-static test was carried out on five specimens with scale ratio of 1:2. The investigated factors include stiffening types of steel tube (multi-cell and tensile bar) and connection types (exterior diaphragm and vertical rib). The failure modes, hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, stress distribution, and joint shear deformation of specimens were analyzed to investigate the seismic behaviors of joints. The test results showed the connections of exterior diaphragm and vertical rib have good seismic behavior and can be identified as rigid joint in the frames with bracing system according to Eurocode 3. The joint of special-shaped column with tensile bars have better seismic performance by using through vertical rib connection. Furthermore, a finite element model was established and a parametric analysis with the finite element model was conducted to investigate the influences of following parameters on the joint stiffness: width-to-thickness ratio of column steel tube, beam-to-column linear stiffness ratio, vertical rib dimensions, and axial load ratio of column. Lastly, preliminary design suggestions were proposed.

With the pseudo-static test of 4 concrete-filled square steel tubular column and steel beam joint with outer stiffened ring, this paper discusses the failure characteristics, failure mechanism and seismic behavior of joints under different axial compression ratio. The analysis of the testing results shows: when reached the ultimate strength, the strength degradation and stiffness degradation of joints are slowly and the ductility is also good, the energy dissipation capacity of joints is much better.

AbstractWith spreading of population and increasing of instruction, and also because of limited resources and materials, the demand for using novel materials in building industry has increased. The reinforced concrete columns and steel beams are used in structures with composite moment frame (RCS). Use of compression strength in proportion with concrete and bending strength of steel beam has bestowed these structures less weight than that of concrete structures and made it easier to access the measure of strong column - weak beam especially within long span in these structures. The most important part of these structures is connection of steel beam with the reinforced concrete column. These connections are divided into two general groups of connection with bracing beam and with bracing column from the joint. This paper aims to study the seismic behavior and parameters of RCS composite frame composed of steel beams and strong concrete column. The finite element method was analyzed by ABAQUS software and data analyzed by Excel.

Based on the experiments of joint with exterior diaphragms between concrete-filled square steel tubular column and H-type steel beam under cyclic loading, with appropriate material stress-strain relations and failure criteria, the mechanical properties of this type of joint were researched by using ANSYS,finite element analyses were conducted under cyclic loading, the hysteretic and framework curves of this type joint between test and theoretical were researched. The study results showed that all specimens have good ductility and energy dissipation capacity. The story angle drift ductility ratios areμ=3.07~3.66,the elastic and elastic-plastic story angle drift are Φy=0.0041~0.0047 and Φu=0.0124~0.0172,and the equivalent viscous damping coefficients are he=0.26~0.35,which meet the needs of the current code for seismic design of building.
