Choice and decision making are an integral part of the purposeful activities of people in all areas of public and private life. Tasks of multi-criteria decision making are characterised by the fact that alternative decisions are evaluated by a set of criteria and the concept of a decision and its outcome coincide. The defining concept in such problems is the concept of a set of Pareto optimal decisions (Pareto set). This set forms alternative decisions that are not comparable in terms of the set of evaluation criteria. The choice of the optimal decision in the Pareto set can be performed only on the basis of the subjective preferences of the decision maker. In recent decades, extensions of traditional methods of multi-criteria decision making to a fuzzy environment have been proposed. One of the well-known approaches to multi-criteria decision making is the TOPSIS method. In the paper, a fuzzy version of this method is considered in situations where the values of evaluation criteria are set in the form of fuzzy numbers.

Due to the globalization most of the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are faced with a lot of pressure to survive. To overcome these pressures, Lean Production System could be very helpful to SMEs. In this research we want to highlight how it can help SMEs, identify limitations to implement lean manufacturing in SMEs and finally prioritize lean practices for implementing in SMEs. For this aim, TOPSIS method in fuzzy environment was applied. Twenty two lean practices which identified by Shah and Ward in 2003 [10] is used as the most suitable lean practices for implementing lean production. Then the barriers of implementing lean production in SMEs identified. An example is provided to illustrate finding of this study. In this study, the barriers of implementing lean production in SMEs were highlighted. It has strived to illustrate the applicability of Multi Criteria Decision Making method in lean production and SMEs. Finally, the result which is the ranked practices of lean production could help managers of SMEs to choose the most suitable practices of lean associated with less risk.

Sustainable supplier selection (SSS) is an important part of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). In this paper, an integrated multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) framework, based on the picture fuzzy exponential entropy, and the VIsekriterijumska optimizacija i KOmpromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method, is proposed to manage SSS problems. Firstly, the evaluation criteria of SSS, including economic, environmental and social, is established. This can be evaluated in the form of the actual data or linguistic terms provided by suppliers and experts respectively in an actual decision-making process. Then, according to the translated scales, all the evaluation information can be converted into picture fuzzy numbers (PFNs). Secondly, the picture fuzzy exponential entropy is defined. Moreover, based on the entropy’s minimization principle, the defined picture fuzzy exponential entropy is used to determine the weight of the SSS’s criteria. Thirdly, the extended VIKOR method, which combines the grey correlation coefficient, is utilized to select a suitable supplier. This method avoids the shortcomings of the traditional VIKOR method in data mining and solves the conflict between SSS criteria. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed integrated decision framework are verified by an experiment, as well as a sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis.

Decision-making process is the selection of the most appropriate one among the alternatives. Different selection criteria are considered in the decision-making process. Simultaneous assessment of different evaluation criteria may not always be possible. Multi-criteria decision-making techniques provide an easily applicable mathematical solution in this respect. Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is one of the multi-criteria decision-making techniques. This method is used in many problems in literature and allows multiple decision makers to choose the most suitable alternative by evaluating them together with different criteria. Assessments of decision makers may include linguistic statements. In this case, the Fuzzy Logic approach can be used. In this chapter, Fuzzy TOPSIS method is explained with a detailed numerical example.

The type of criterion weight can be distinguished according to different decision methods. Subjective weights are given by decision makers based on their knowledge, experience, expertise, and other factors. Objective weights are obtained through multi-step calculations of the evaluation matrix constructed from the actual information about the evaluation criteria of the alternatives. A single consideration of these two types of weights often results in biased results. In addition, in order to build an effective supply chain source, buyers must find suitable quality products and/or service providers in the process of supplier selection. Based on the above reasons, it is difficult to accurately select the appropriate alternative. The main contribution of this paper is to combine entropy weight, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) weight, and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) method into a suitable multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) solution. The TOPSIS method is extended with entropy-AHP weights, and entropy-AHP weights are used instead of subjective weights. A novel decision-making model of TOPSIS integrated entropy-AHP weights is proposed to select the appropriate supplier. Finally, we take the selection of building material suppliers as an example and use sensitivity analysis to show that the combination of the TOPSIS method based on entropy-AHP weights can effectively select the appropriate supplier.

Banking has always played an important role in the economy because of its effects on individuals as well as on the economy. In the process of renovation and modernization of the country, the system of commercial banks has changed dramatically. Business models and services have become more diversified. Therefore, the performance of commercial banks is always attracting the attention of managers, supervisors, banks and customers. Bank ranking can be viewed as a multi-criteria decision model. This article uses the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to rank some commercial banks in Vietnam.

The article is devoted to the problem of  software selection. As a rule, this tasks are formalized as models of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM). The peculiarity of this problem is in the fact that the evaluation criteria , is generally defined by linguistic expert. This requires the use of special methods, in particularly, the theory of fuzzy sets. To solve the problem, an approach based on the  a fuzzy measure  was used . In general, a fuzzy measure allows one to take into account the effect of the mutual influence of criteria. The main difficulty lies in identifying this measure. The fuzzy Sugeno measure and  Sugeno integral were used. An example of solving the indicated problem is given.

The fusion of multidimensional intuitionistic fuzzy information plays an important part in decision making processes under an intuitionistic fuzzy environment. In this chapter, it is observed that existing intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein hybrid aggregation operators do not follow the idempotency and boundedness. This leads to sometimes illogical and even absurd results to the decision maker. Hence, some new intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein hybrid aggregation operators such as the new intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein hybrid weighted averaging (IFEHWA) and the new intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein hybrid weighted geometric (IFEHWG) were developed. The new IFEHWA and IFEHWG operators can weigh the arguments as well as their ordered positions the same as the intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein hybrid aggregation operators do. Further, it is validated that the defined operators are idempotent, bounded, monotonic and commutative. Then, based on the developed approach, a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) procedure is given. Finally, a numerical example is conducted to demonstrate the proposed method effectively.
