Nine variously substituted azo dye derivatives2–10of antipyrine were prepared. The effects of the nature and orientation of the substituents on the color and dyeing properties of these dyes for polyester fibers were evaluated. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral data. On the other hand, the investigated dyes were applied to polyester fabrics and showed good light, washing, heat, and acid perspiration fastness. The remarkable degree of brightness after washings is indicative of the good penetration and the excellent affinity of these dyes for the fabric. The results in general revealed the efficiency of the prepared compounds as new monoazo disperse dyes. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antioxidant and cytotoxic activity against Vitamin C and 5-fluorouracil, respectively. The data showed clearly that most of the compounds exhibited good antioxidant and cytotoxic activities.

Novel monoazo disperse dyes based on various 2-aminoheterocycles were prepared using N-methyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aniline as the coupling component. All the dyes were applied as disperse dyes on nylon fabric. These dyes have been found to give a wide range of colour shades with very good depth, brightness and levelness on nylon fabric. The visible absorption spectra, elemental analysis and Rf values were investigated. The percentage dye bath exhaustion on fabric was found to be very good. The dyed fabric showed very good to excellent fastness to light, washing, rubbing and perspiration. The sublimation fastness was found to be excellent.

Polyester fibers (PES) are the most consumed textile fibers due to their low water absorption; non-ionic character and high crystallinity. However, due to their chemical structure, the chemical interactions between polyester, finishing products, and dyes are quite challenging. We report on the use of ozone to modify the surface of polyester fibers with the goal of improving the interaction of the modified surface with finishing compounds and dyes. We used C.I. Disperse Yellow 211 to dye ozone-treated polyester fabrics and evaluated the effects of ozone treatment using FTIR-ATR, Raman spectroscopy, SEM imaging, rubbing tests, and capillarity measurements. We evaluated the dyeing performance via color analysis, and determined the dyeing kinetics. Experimental results indicate that the modification of polyester fabrics with ozone is a feasible pre-treatment that improves dyeing efficiency allowing better solidity of color and a decrease in the amount of dye required.

A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole was prepared by coupling with various N-arylmaleimides. The dyeing performance of these dyes was assessed on nylon fabric. The dyes were found to give yellow to brown colour shades on dyeing with good depth and levelness on nylon fabric. The dyebath exhaustion fixation and fastness properties of the dyes were also determined. The dyed fabric showed moderate to good light fastness and very good to excellent fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and sublimation. The IR and visible range spectral properties of the dyes were also determined.

A series of monoazo disperse dyes were synthesized by coupling diazotized 4-amino-N-dodecyl-1,8-naphthalimide with N,N-dialkyl anilines and naphthol derivatives. The synthesized intermediates and the dyes were characterized using FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis (CHN). Visible absorption spectra of the dyes were examined in solvents of different polarities. The electronic absorption spectra cover a wavelength (?max) range of 515-535 nm in DMF at uniformly absorption intensity between 1.59-3.00?104 L mol-1 cm-1. The dyes gave deep and bright intense hues of light violet, maroon, pink and neon red on polyester fabrics. The dyes generally showed good washing and perspiration rating but poor to moderate light fastness properties on woven polyester fabric and could be recommended for commercial outlets.

The level dyeing index (LDI) is a measure of dye performance influenced by the dye migration process, ensuring the maximum uniformity of dye redistribution onto the fabric surface. The current study evaluates the level dyeing performance on polyester according to the energy level (low and high) and chemical classes (azo and anthraquinone based) of the three disperse dyes studied. The best levelness was obtained using C.I. Disperse Red 73 (an azo-based, low-energy level disperse dye), which exhibited the highest migration index (MI%) value. LDI results were obtained from the ratio of the exhaustion at the critical dyeing temperature (ECDT% and the final exhaustion Ef%), and the migration index (MI%). Each dye's LDI can be used to determine the compatibility of disperse dyes for combination dyeing.
