Medical science not only affects our lives in terms of health and disease but also transforms our more vital experiences. Nowadays, this statement has acquired special significance, given the adoption of information and communication technologies (ICT) by medical practice, the so-called eHealth. The great growth in the use of smartphone applications for managing mental distress has been coined as ‘pocket psychiatry’. Within this digital scape, many disease-specific apps such as ClinTouch, aimed at the self-management of psychosis, have been launched in the market. By using the analytical concept of ‘script’, the article aims to show how the psychiatric world-view embedded in ClinTouch defines a particular framework of action for ‘schizophrenic’ users to contest ‘external-identifications’. It is suggested that if the main endeavour is to promote mental health in the community, it is needed to go beyond the biomedical model to maximize the social participation of people with mental suffering in the use of ICT.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the reflection and recreation of the physical landscape in literary texts and in their translations; to explore in what ways nature is represented and, secondly, to discuss aspects of this process in the light of the translational norms proposed by Toury. The focus is the idea that language and culture, the core of literature, are to be transferred to other linguistic and cultural mediums during translation, and constitute the ecological environment of the text. This undertaking assigns to the translator the task of selecting, adapting and recreating this material in the foreign environment. An ecocritical approach will be adopted to explore how and how far this task is materialized by studying a Turkish author Yaşar Kemal’s novel Ortadirek translated as The Wind from the Plain. Yaşar Kemal is regarded as the most ecologically-minded author of Turkish literature and his novels portray nature as the mental landscapes of man, a force under which the constituents of the text are recreated at every linguistic and culture-bound effort of the author. Hence, the main endeavour of this study will be to bring to the surface, with an eco-critical approach, the translational preferences of the translator of Ortadirek and their significance in the recreation of Kemal’s ecological vision in the translation.

The author analyzed the structure of cassation proceedings in France. He remarked that the French Cassation Court does not examine the dispute, but the judgment which was issued as a result of the proceedings in a specific case. He claims that the function of the cassation proceedings, as well as the role of a cassation judge is special for several reasons. Most importantly, cassation consists in overruling a judgment. The legal interpretation and the justification of the grounds of such a ruling bear more similarity to doctrinal considerations rather than a purely judicial verdict. The text also presents the organisation of the French Cour de cassation by describing the composition of each chamber, their scope of competence, the tasks of the president of the court as well as the overall day-to-day functioning. The author asserts that the organisation of the court reflects its main endeavour, namely to assure the uniformity of the jurisprudence. Additionally, he puts an emphasis on the relation between the selection mechanism of cassation cases and the Cassation Court’s ability to efficiently fulfill its role. The author argues that such mechanisms do not infringe on Article 6 (1) ECHR. Next, the author proceeds to describe an outline of the court session at the Cour de cassation, including the role of judges, parties to the proceedings, as well as the scope of examination of a cassation and the possible outcomes that come into play. The author concludes his considerations by analysing the extent to which the French cassation court may control the constitutionality of legal provisions and juxtaposing it with solutions adopted in some other European countries.

Abstract. During 2011, two deep-sea observatories focusing on hydrothermal vent ecology were up and running in the Atlantic (Eiffel Tower, Lucky Strike vent field) and the Northeast Pacific Ocean (NEP) (Grotto, Main Endeavour Field). Both ecological modules recorded imagery and environmental variables jointly for a time span of 23 days (7–30 October 2011) and environmental variables for up to 9 months (October 2011–June 2012). Community dynamics were assessed based on imagery analysis and rhythms in temporal variation for both fauna and environment were revealed. Tidal rhythms were found to be at play in the two settings and were most visible in temperature and tubeworm appearances (at NEP). A  ∼  6 h lag in tidal rhythm occurrence was observed between Pacific and Atlantic hydrothermal vents, which corresponds to the geographical distance and time delay between the two sites.
