For an ample Hausdorff groupoid G \mathcal {G} , and the Steinberg algebra A R ( G ) A_R(\mathcal {G}) with coefficients in the commutative ring R R with unit, the centralizer is described for the subalgebra A R ( U ) A_R(U) with U U an open closed invariant subset of the unit space of  G \mathcal {G} . In particular, it is shown that the algebra of the interior of the isotropy is indeed the centralizer of the diagonal subalgebra of the Steinberg algebra. This will unify several results in the literature, and the corresponding results for Leavitt path algebras follow.

Abstract We construct an example of a Hamiltonian flow $f^t$ on a four-dimensional smooth manifold $\mathcal {M}$ which after being restricted to an energy surface $\mathcal {M}_e$ demonstrates essential coexistence of regular and chaotic dynamics, that is, there is an open and dense $f^t$ -invariant subset $U\subset \mathcal {M}_e$ such that the restriction $f^t|U$ has non-zero Lyapunov exponents in all directions (except for the direction of the flow) and is a Bernoulli flow while, on the boundary $\partial U$ , which has positive volume, all Lyapunov exponents of the system are zero.

In this paper we analyse the non-wandering set of one-dimensional Greenberg–Hastings cellular automaton models for excitable media with $e\geqslant 1$ excited and $r\geqslant 1$ refractory states and determine its (strictly positive) topological entropy. We show that it results from a Devaney chaotic closed invariant subset of the non-wandering set that consists of colliding and annihilating travelling waves, which is conjugate to a skew-product dynamical system of coupled shift dynamics. Moreover, we determine the remaining part of the non-wandering set explicitly as a Markov system with strictly less topological entropy that also scales differently for large $e,r$ .

Schwinger’s algebra of selective measurements has a natural interpretation in terms of groupoids. This approach is pushed forward in this paper to show that the theory of coherent states has a natural setting in the framework of groupoids. Thus given a quantum mechanical system with associated Hilbert space determined by a representation of a groupoid, it is shown that any invariant subset of the group of invertible elements in the groupoid algebra determines a family of generalized coherent states provided that a completeness condition is satisfied. The standard coherent states for the harmonic oscillator as well as generalized coherent states for f-oscillators are exemplified in this picture.

AbstractWe show that spacetime diagrams of linear cellular automata $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}:\,\mathbb{F}_{p}^{\mathbb{Z}}\rightarrow \mathbb{F}_{p}^{\mathbb{Z}}$ with $(-p)$-automatic initial conditions are automatic. This extends existing results on initial conditions that are eventually constant. Each automatic spacetime diagram defines a $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7})$-invariant subset of $\mathbb{F}_{p}^{\mathbb{Z}}$, where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$ is the left shift map, and if the initial condition is not eventually periodic, then this invariant set is nontrivial. For the Ledrappier cellular automaton we construct a family of nontrivial $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7})$-invariant measures on $\mathbb{F}_{3}^{\mathbb{Z}}$. Finally, given a linear cellular automaton $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}$, we construct a nontrivial $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7})$-invariant measure on $\mathbb{F}_{p}^{\mathbb{Z}}$ for all but finitely many $p$.

We show that every uniformly recurrent subgroup of a locally compact group is the family of stabilizers of a minimal action on a compact space. More generally, every closed invariant subset of the Chabauty space is the family of stabilizers of an action on a compact space on which the stabilizer map is continuous everywhere. This answers a question of Glasner and Weiss. We also introduce the notion of a universal minimal flow relative to a uniformly recurrent subgroup and prove its existence and uniqueness.

This study investigates a multiplicative integer system, an invariant subset of the full shift under the action of the semigroup of multiplicative integers, by using a method that was developed for studying pattern generation problems. The spatial entropy and the Minkowski dimensions of general multiplicative systems can thus be computed. A coupled system is the intersection of a multiplicative integer system and the golden mean shift, which can be decoupled by removing the multiplicative relation set and then performing procedures similar to those applied to a decoupled system. The spatial entropy can be obtained after the remaining error term is shown to approach zero.
